Tuscola's Ferguson sets TD record

Pretty impressive. Happy for him, and the projected strong season for Tuscola.

68 points against any team is impressive. Giving up 34 to Patton Is not.
Patton is really much improved offensively. Their QB is pre
season conf player of the year pick. Well coached, will win some games
this year if stay injury free.

Wow, and they say numbers never lie. So I'm guessing big plays out of Tuscola and drives from Patton.

Jenkins set new school record for return yards with 270. He scored twice on returns for TD's after Patton had scored. He returned the opening kickoff to the 4 yard line. Ferguson then punched it in for the first TD so field position had a lot to do with the lack of offensive yards. Turner also returned a kick for about 70 yards after Patton finally figured out that kicking to Jenkins was a bad idea. That one was brought back to about mid-field.
Patton was horrendous on special teams.

The halftime score was 34-20. Tuscola outscored them 21-0 in the 3rd quarter to finally pull away. 4th quarter was a lot of subs in and out. Patton scored twice and botched onside kick attempts both times with encroachment penalties and had to re-kick, which were unsuccessful.

That being said, Patton was much improved over last year. Their QB runs well and they had some good size at RB. Several o-linemen looked bigger and more athletic than ours. Last year they fumbled the first play from scrimmage inside their 10 and we immediately jumped on them when they failed to cover Napert on the outside. This year we went up first and they came back downfield and actually went up 8-7 briefly.

Yeah Tuscola had good field position all night. The offense did run pretty well though. I don't recall if we had either a punt or turnover on any drive. Vols might remember better than I do.

Pretty much, Bear. I think we had one turnover and we recovered a fumble and Turner intercepted one around our 30.

One of Ferguson's td's was a swing pass that went about 40 yds or so. Perkins ran one in on a sneak. Winchester threw another short screen TD when Perkins got dinged up.

Sounds like we got ourselves another good one brewing in haywood county. See y'all in October.

It's really taxing on a defense when your offense is so good you can't rest. Last week Tuscola had only 24 offensive play and 94 defensive plays. Those are video game numbers. Again last night, twice more Tuscola had 1 play drives resulting in TDS. Very hard on d lineman. Perhaps could be some reason why there were some defensive breakdowns vs Patton. Didn't seem to matter vs Owen. Big T still has zero turnovers on the season I believe.

Yah can see your D getting wore down by a team that can drive the ball and play keep away from the offense.
