Turmoil in Swannanoa...

Exactly how do you reclassify down a grade to still be a junior??
It's pretty common at one of the High Point area private schools. Students from Thomasville who have transferred there for the past forty years have typically been set back a grade. In those cases, it appears to be related to academics, not athletics. Often done for all age groups, not just high schoolers.

They're not even transferring for basketball. Not good for Owen or the rest of the surrounding schools. And it is insane to me that there is no recruiting to going on here. Scholarships are supposed to be illegal from what I've been told in the past. I asked about that at a private school recently and they said you can't do full scholarships. May vary by school?

Pretty common for people who transfer in to private schools after 9th grade. The theory is that coming from public school, a kid may not be totally caught up to the students who started at the private school-but a lot of times I think it is just to get an extra year of sports. The schools that will let you reclass aren't in the NCHSAA, so have different rules basically allowing 5 years of eligibility. This kid missed an entire year of football, so it's almost like a redshirt for him, but a lot of times it's not injury related--kids just get to play 5 years of high school sports.
