Whether you love him or hate him, I think Johnny Roscoe belongs in the 2010 category. Could probably put Kevin Gillespie in there as well.

I would agree with Oddo being in all 3 decades !! Just wondering ... did he ever have a losing season at CC ??

You could actually argue to list Oddo in the 70's when he won his first State Championship, and not the 90's when he had about 6 losing seasons.

Daryl Barnes 8 110 6 0 32 3 5 94.8%
Ed Emory 6 77 7 0 13 6 0 91.7%

Daryl Barnes Richmond Native of Archdale and a graduate of Trinity High…compiled an unbelievable 157-25 mark in 14 seasons as a head football coach…stints at Southern Guilford, Northeast Guilford, South Brunswick and Richmond Senior…amazing 110-6 record in eight years with Richmond while achieving five state 4-A titles…served on the NCHSAA’s Board of Directors and is a member of the association’s Hall of Fame, class of 2007.

Coach Barnes...110-6, 8 years at Richmond...phenomenal. .. not taking anything away from the coach, but speaks volumes for the players and talents here at Richmond in comparison to his other ventures. So...like I said before, the players are here, and they most always are...I think Coach Till might still be even more surprised as the Seaons go by. Lot of good coaches mentioned...play the right players in the right place...WIN.
GO RAIDERS...

Ask anyone that was an insider at Richmond under Barnes about coaches meetings and game planning. The assistants were very impressive.

You would hear the same thing about Mark. Talk about having coaches talent in a family.

Old timers may remember Paul Barnes, father of Daryl and Mark who coached at Allen Jay in High Point/Southwest Guilford area back in the 60s. Allen Jay was a great program that won an area state title and played for a couple of others. They closed down in 1979 with the opening of the new Southwest Guilford high school, and students were split between them and Southern Guilford.

Allen Jay played for and won an area 1A title in 1961 under Paul Barnes. They were a 1A sized school that later played 2a ball with Western Guilford and Southern Guilford because there were no other 1A schools around when Guilford county schools consolidated. In 1970 Allen Jay, with 23 players, advanced all the way to the Eastern State Championship against Ahoskie before losing. Ahoskie, now Hertford County High, consolidated that year and had 1000 students compared to Allen Jay's 300-400. Ahoskie would move up to 3a next year, while numbers finally caught up to Allen Jay and they never had another great season before closing down.

It was great to read about them, though. My father and uncles played for them in the 60s and 70s. I found all this out by reading yearbooks and news clippings my grandparents had collected over the years.

Daryl Barnes attended Allen Jay elementary before going to Trinity in later years.

Bob Colvin has 11 State Championships. Won about 94% of all the games he coached despite having almost zero Div I talent. That's coaching.
