Two snaps twenty yards over the Thomasville punter’s head on successive possessions. The second one hurt, giving Central the ball at the Dogs’ one.
7-0 Central.
Same old illegal double wing crap. You can’t have five guys pushing the runner on every play. Never gets called.

Thomasville scores but misses PAT. 7-6 Central.
Thomasville stops them, but late hit out of bounds. Central at T’ville 27. Six minutes left in half.

Well, they finally called it, but Central scores on the next play anyway. 14-14 with under a minute.

Thomasville punches it in. PAT blocked. 20-14 Thomasville at the half. Tons of penalties on both teams and a bunch more that should have been called.

Thanks Lincolnton!

Thomasville holds on downs, but fumbles it right back. Central scores but Dogs blocked the kick.
20-20 start of fourth quarter.

Dogs 45 yards for TD. One ref calls it, but they bring it back to the one. Thomasville scores and unsportsmanlike on CD. PAT blocked.
26-20 Thomasville with 11:12 left.

I only recall seeing one game in my long lifetime with worse officiating than this one.

Robertson has every reason to be miffed. Just took away a 70 yard kickoff return on an inadvertent whistle. Pitiful.

Thomasville thrown for a loss. Timeout. Touchdown pass by the Dogs with 8.8 seconds left.
32-27 Dogs with kickoff coming.

Awesome. Sounds like it was a great finish. I told my buddy that we should leave the OG - Lex game at halftime and ride up there. I really wish we had now.

I’m kind of surprised by this game’s result. Maybe I had given Central too much credit, or had not given enough credit to Thomasville.

Anyway, I stand corrected. Nice win, and if it went down like you guys say it did, that inadvertent whistle would have been a travesty.

This ref shortage is only going to get worse. No one is stepping in to replace the old timers who are starting to hang it up. The best crews go to the games that have more at stake. There are fewer and fewer of those good crews every year.

The officiating at the ND and East game tonight was horrible too. Two calls back to back went against ED. One no call on PI on a long pass by East, defender never turned around and was all over the WR but no call. Then East punts and the ND kid muffed the punt and fumbled and East player falls on it and has his arm and hand around the ball on the ground with possession then ND player comes in and and jumps on it and the refs give it back to ND when East player clearly had possession.

I’d hate to see officiating any worse than the Andrews vs Central game tonight. Coach, players and Fans from both sides left there in pure disgust. What a complete joke.

Why don't those of you who post on these boards and blister the officials try going through the training and be part of the solution? If you can do a better job than the ones who are out there, you are needed!!

It went both ways, ND had two TD's called back and one was a TERRIBLE call. ND got a block in the back penalty on the punt return TD and the kid from ND CLEARLY hit the ED kid in the front.

I understand your point, and mostly agree with it.

I never officiated football, but spent twenty years calling basketball, volleyball and softball. There are some very good officials out there in every sport. But, unfortunately, those are diminishing in number. And yes, excessive criticism is part of the reason. There is another major factor and that is the motivation for doing the job. Part of my reason for leaving officiating was the number of people entering the profession almost totally because of the extra income. Unlike the veteran refs, they were less interested in the preparation for and the quality of their craft than getting that paycheck.

I had one basketball official tell me that we needed to “cruise” in the girls game because the boys game would be a track meet and we needed to be “fresh” for it. I told him that I had looked closely at my checks and they weren’t separated into boys’ and girls’ pay. That the girls deserved our best too. He smirked, shook his head and walked off.

Thomasville has had some well officiated games, including the Montgomery Central game that we lost. But sometimes you get a crew that is obviously inept. It usually builds during a game and one bad call leads to ten. That’s apparently what happened last night. They were awful and couldn’t sell a call, even when they made one. Hopefully they’re better than they showed and last night was an aberration. But quite simply, last night they were terrible.

I hardly ever complain about officiating...I'm just a laid back dude, just enjoying a HS game, but that inadvertent whistle against TVILLE was terrible and I would have said the same thing if it happened to CD...Stevie wonder could have seen that the player was not down...TVILLE kicking game is nonexistent(Long snapper) I was watching him on the sideline practicing snaps and they were like 3 ft over the kickers head.

Two of those officials last night are at a point in age where they do not move well enough to see the field and call the game properly. The old dude walking off penalties went 8 1/2 yards on a ten yarder one time and on another walked 12 yards on a 15 yarder. Penalty was a 15 yarder at the 38 and he put the ball on the 50. The blown call was really bad, Thank goodness the Dogs overcame it late to score and win.

Prep, that was good ballgame with Central. Central has some athletic kids, but Thomasville had a clear advantage in athleticism last night and late in the game it paid off. THS coaching staff had a great plan on defense and it held up for the win. CD runs that offense well, the only downfall is that when it comes down to 2-3 minutes to go for a win that offense doesn’t produce big plays or passing to win a close game. Central will win some games and have a winning season IMO.

Kicking game has been off for two weeks. The snapper has been hurt and is getting back to 100%. It was a rough night overall, but the dogs overcame it and I am sure plenty of work will be put into correcting that going into this weeks game.

Guess I need to ask which blown call, but I suspect the whistle when the runner wasn’t down. But some of the calls by refs way outside of their area were pretty bad too. And the missed pass interference. Not to mention that they could have called false start on virtually every play (right wingback) and the continual pushing of the runner. It’s kinda like Georgia Tech with their blocking...every play, so it rarely gets called.

I understand he was hurt but the coach literally was showing him how to grip the ball as he snapped it. Like ITJ told me last night, snapping should be just like a free throw, snap it 100 times at practice till it’s nothing but rhythm.

Absolutely right. They do at least 30 minutes daily in practice on special teams and the kickers and snappers work with Coach Don on Sundays. They have what they have and must make the best of it going forward and get it right. May have to switch to a shorter snap and rugby punt. I thought they had another kid that has snapped before but he hasn’t been snapping, not sure why.

Glad to hear they're getting practice time. That hasn't always been the case. Even with Coach Brown, very little time was spent in practice. Especially when it involved the snapper and holder. And Don will tell you that it's pretty rare in his career for snappers and holders to show up on Sunday. Usually just kickers. Snapping has been a problem for Thomasville for a long time.

Our kicker, snapper and holder put in 30+ minutes of extra work every practice day in LL. Only way you can make it work.

I’m not sure who Coach Don is... and I know your staff is well aware of Sunday Participation Rules.

It would be worth it, for your protection, to state that Don is not part of the official coaching staff.
From the NCHSAA:
41. NO SUNDAY PARTICIPATION: No contest under the auspices of the NCHSAA may be staged on Sunday, except for certain cases approved by the NCHSAA in championships. There shall be no Sunday practices in any sport. This includes the assembling of athletic squads (full teams or selected individuals) for purposes of viewing films, chalk talks, or other materials pertaining to the coaching of the team.

I want to be clear... I’m not accusing anyone of anything. I just know this forum. Someone will squawk, here or somewhere else.

Don Osborne is not a member of the Thomasville coaching staff. He has worked with kickers from area high schools, as well as high schools in Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. Just wrote a book entitled “Was it all just for kicks?”
He tutored Snow Brenner, the female kicker from High Point Central, Will Johnson from that school, Eddie Pope of soccer fame, Clayton Trivette (long snapper), current coach at Central Davidson, Zach Pickard (Southern Alamance and Virginia Tech). I counted at least 18 area high schools that have had players who received instruction under Don. He has regular voluntary sessions on Sunday afternoons, open to players from any school, and has held kicking camps at UNC, NC State, Guilford and other colleges. He also holds an annual camp in Thomasville.
Don also accepts no pay for his tutelage.
Your concern is appreciated but all is good with Coach Don and his activities.
