Inclimate weather was once again a problem statewide last week with games being played on Thursday, Friday and this coming Monday...The Yadkin Valley Conference along with the Smoky Mountain Conference were the only 2 Western 1A Conferences that played games as scheduled last friday...

YVC-9
---------
Unbeaten West Montgomery(5-0 & 2-0) didn't have any weather worries last week as the Warriors were Idle...As for the rest of the YVC, East Montgomery(5-1 & 3-0) currently sits alone at the top of the YVC as the Eagles claimed their 5th consecutive win and first shutout(34-0) of the season in Bear Creek against winless Chatham Central(0-6 & 0-3)....In the YVC Game of the Week last friday, North Stanly(4-1 & 2-0) celebrated their Homecoming with a convincing 35-10 win over North Moore(2-3 & 1-2)....In Denton, Albemarle(2-4 & 2-1) beat(42-7) South Davidson(0-6 & 0-3) to record their 2nd straight YVC win....In other YVC action last friday, South Stanly(1-4 &1-1) ended an 8-game losing streak, recorded their first shutout(10-0), and gave first-year Head Coach Bradley Frodge his first win, so Congrats to Coach Frodge and the Rebel Bulls on the victory over the Union Academy Cardinals(1-5 & 1-2)...

Looking Ahead: East and West Montgomery with host YVC foes South Stanly and the Union Academy on friday, while North Stanly will travel to Chatham Central...North Moore will host South Davidson, while Albemarle will be OPEN this coming friday....The 2015 YVC Title picture will become more clear in a couple weeks when West Montgomery travels to Albemarle and East Montgomery makes the trip to New London to face North Stanly...

SMC-7
----------
Conference play began last friday in the SMC with Murphy(5-1 & 1-0) being the only road team to claim a victory in the opener, and that win wasn't secured until the 4th quarter as improving Cherokee(3-3 & 0-1) led early, but faltered late as the Bulldogs rallied behind QB Dalton Kent and RB Kadrian McRae to record a 27-6 SMC win on the Reservation...In Robbinsville, the Black Knights(3-2 & 1-0) got a big night from RB Lane Millsaps who rushed for a couple TDs, and returned a Kickoff 58yds for another score as the Black Knights beat(46-12) Andrews(3-3 & 0-1) in the SMC opener at Big Oaks Stadium...Over in Rosman, the Tigers got a big night from RB Gage Orr as the Tiger Senior rushed for 271yds and 4TDs, passing for another score as the Tigers shut down and shutout(57-0) the Hayesville Yellowjackets(3-2 & 0-1) to open SMC play...Swain County(2-3 & 0-0) was Idle last week....

Looking Ahead: In the SMC Game of the Week, the last 2 State 1A Champions will clash over at "The Hill" in Murphy this friday when the Black Knights of Robbinsville travel to face the Bulldogs....Swain County will open conference play on the road this friday when the Maroondevils travel to Hayesville...On the other end of Cherokee County, Andrews will host the Rosman Tigers for Homecoming....Cherokee is OPEN this week before traveling to Swain County on the 9th!

NWC-7
----------
Weather wiped-out the beginning of conference play in the NWC last friday as all 3 scheduled NWC games were postponed until this coming monday....Unbeaten East Surry's4-0 & 0-0) NWC game with Atkins(0-5 & 0-0) has been pushed-back to Monday Oct 12th at 7pm, due to the continuing inclimate weather....Walkertown(2-4 & 1-0) shutout(26-0) W-S Prep(2-3 & 0-1) on monday in the first-ever NWC game between Winston-Salem neighbors...Down the road a piece in Kernersville on monday North Stokes(4-2 & 1-0) edged(15-12) Bishop McGuinness(2-4 & 0-1) in another key NWC game....Mount Airy had no weather concerns as the Granite Bears(3-2 & 0-0) was Idle last friday before hosting North Stokes this coming friday...

Looking Ahead: The North Stokes Vikings will have another short week to prepare for a tough road game as the Vikings travel to Mount Airy on friday...The remaining NWC members will also have a short week, and will not be as rested as the Bears as Atkins travels to Walkertown, while Bishop McGuinness will make the trip to face W-S Prep for the first time on the gridiron...East Surry will step out of conference play to host winless 2A South Stokes(0-5) in Pilot Mountain, but I'm unsure at this time whether this game will be played friday or saturday, due to the lingering postponement of the NWC game between Atkins and East Surry?...

SPC-7
---------
Weather impacted one SPC game on friday, while the other SPC game was played as scheduled as the Community School of Davidson(4-2 & 1-0) opened SPC play in impressive fashion as the Spartans blitzed(57-0) the Mountain Island Charter(1-5 & 0-4), beating the Raptors in the first ever matchup between SPC foes... Bessemer City(2-4 & 2-0) climbed to the top of the SPC standings with a 58-0 shutout of Highland Tech(0-5 & 0-1) on monday...In SPC non-conference action last friday, Pine Lake Prep(6-0 & 1-0) remains unbeaten on the season after beating(32-20) the Harrells Christian Academy on the road which was the 3rd straight road win for the Pride...Meanwhile, Cherryville(0-6 & 0-0) was shutout(40-0) for the 4th time this season, losing at 2A Forbush(3-3)....Unbeaten Thomas Jeffeson(5-0 & 1-0) was Idle last week.....

Looking Ahead: Several SPC members will be Idle this week as Bessemer City, Cherryville, CSOD and Pine Lake Prep take a break before the SPC kicks into high gear next week....In the only SPC game this coming friday, Highland tech will travel to face Mountain Island Charter for a first-ever meeting and SPC meeting between the Rams and Raptors with both teams looking to get out of the SPC cellar, and pick up their first conference win....Thomas Jefferson will step out of conference play one last time as the Gryphons travel to Rock Hill S.C to face the Carolina Crusaders....

1A/2A MVC-4
-------------------
Weather impacted the MVC last friday with one MVC opener being moved to Thursday when 2A Ashe County(2-3 & 1-0) beat 1A Alleghany(2-3 & 0-1) 40-12 in Sparta...On friday, Starmount(3-2 & 1-0) reclaimed the "Battle of the Bridge" trophy with a dominating(48-7) win over their rivals from Elkin(0-5 & 0-1)....Two MVC games were moved to monday as East Wilkes(6-0 & 1-0) remained unbeaten on the season as the Cardinals shutout(21-0) 2A North Wilkes(1-4 & 0-1) in the MVC opener for both teams...Meanwhile, fellow 2A MVC unbeaten Wilkes Central(5-0 & 1-0) hammered(41-14) 2A West Wilkes(3-3 & 0-1) in Wilkesboro to remain unbeaten and tied atop the standings with East Wilkes,Starmount and Ashe County...

Looking Ahead: East Wilkes will host Alleghany this week after a short week of practice, while 1A Starmount will travel to 2A West Wilkes....Elkin will host 2A North Wilkes....In the MVC game of the week, unbeaten 2A Wilkes Central will travel to West Jefferson to face 2A Ashe County in a key MVC matchup between 2A foes....

1A/2A WHC-2
--------------------
Only 1 WHC game was played as scheduled last friday, and it was a memorable one for Owen(1-4 & 1-0) first year Head Coach Nathan Padgett as the 2A Warhorses recorded their first win of the season, beating(49-6) 1A Avery County(1-5 & 0-1), so Congrats to Coach Padgett and the Warhorses on that first victory of the season...Unbeaten 1A Mitchell County(5-0 & 0-0) will be the Warhorses next opponent, but the Mountaineers were Idle last week after beating their first 5 non-conference opponents by an average score of 52-11....On monday in a high-scoring affair(48-44), 2A Hendersonville(2-4 & 1-0) opened WHC play with a big win over 2A Mountain Heritage(4-2 & 0-1)....Meanwhile down in Columbus on Monday, Polk County(3-3 & 1-0) blasted(50-7) 2A Madison County(0-6 & 0-1), and is now tied atop the WHC standings with fellow 2A WHC foes Owen and Hendersonville....

Looking Ahead: As mentioned above, Mitchell County will try to contain Owen RB Sidney Gibbs, and remain unbeaten in the Mountaineers WHC opener in Black Mountain against the 2A Warhorses, this friday...2A Mountain Heritage will host 2A Polk County in another key WHC battle between 2A foes, while 2A Madison County will host 2A Hendersonville....1A Avery County will be off this week in preparation for their trip to Hendersonville in a couple weeks.....

I've edited Monday's results, so the Weekly Western Report should be up to date?

Thanks for the update. Looks like the forcast will still have rain throughout the upcoming week. I assume teams will just deal with the rain and play in it so that they can look towards this Friday.

next few weeks will be important for Bears......must get better with 2 big games to close out season (@ Walkertown and @ East Surry)....

We have Murphy and Rosman the next 2 weeks and both are away games. Very good chance we will be playing the Western Champ in one of our next two weeks.

North Stokes is getting a bad deal with the weather so far this season! They had to go on a short week into a tough game with East Wilkes (that had two weeks to rest and prepare for the Vikings) and still played the Cardinals tough in a 27-17 loss. Now they have another game this Friday (after playing this Monday) against a team once again coming off a bye week! I think the Vikings have a pretty good team but the weather is not doing them any favors. The Granite Bear offense has been AWOL the last couple of games. But they have had a few weeks to make adjustments for the North Stokes game. I expect East Wilkes will make short work of North Wilkes and Alleghany and head into that tough 3 week stretch against Ashe, Starmount and Wilkes Central undefeated.

Here is the Eastern 1A Review from last week:

---------
Weather was a big factor in the Two Rivers Conference as several non-conference games were pushed back to Monday...North Edgecombe(3-1) was suppose to host Kipp Pride(0-4) on monday in the Warriors final non-conference tuneup, but I don't have a result as yet from that game? In 2RC action on monday, Northampton County(4-2) won their 4th game in a row as the Jaguars blasted(61-6) winless NW Halifax...In the Two Rivers Game of the Week on monday, Tarboro's(5-1) unbeaten season ended with a 28-14 loss at 2A unbeaten SW Edgecombe(6-0)...South Creek(4-1), Riverside-Martin(3-2) and Rocky Mount Prep(1-2) were all open last week...

TRAC-6

1A/2A FCC-4
-------------------

1A/2A 3RC-4
-------------------
The Three Rivers Conference began conference play last Thursday in trying to avoid the weather, and 3 conference games were played... 1A Whiteville(3-2 & 12-0) traveled to Cerro Gordo, and beat(45-6) fellow 1A foe West Columbus(1-4 & 0-1)....2A Fairmount beat(42-6) beat 1A South Robeson(0-5 & 0-1), while 2A Red Springs(5-0 & 1-0) beat fellow 2A foe Saint Pauls on the road 41-8...Last friday, 2A South Columbus(1-4 & 0-1) beat their smaller 1A foe from East Columbus(1-4 & 0-1) 33-6 in Lake Waccamaw to open conference play...

As stated above, I still need the results from N.Edgecombe/Kipp Pride, so any help with that game would be appreciated....

Once again, Corrections, Comments and Opinions are always welcomed....

Yeah, thats what I meant. Murphy, Rosman, or R-Ville. One of these will be at the big show.

Have to agree that the Weather Gods have been unkind to the Vikings thus far....Short week to travel to unbeaten East Wilkes a couple weeks ago after beating 2A South Stokes on a monday, followed by another short week before traveling to face another rested opponent(Mount Airy) on the road, later this week....Tough roe to hoe for sure!

Will be interesting to see the result of tonight's game between North Stokes and Biship McGuinness?
