Down the stretch we come as the 2017 season winds down, and teams jockey for playoff positions in the new 48 team playoff format...Last week, none of the top 10 teams lost, but there were some anxious moments for a few teams around the state, let's take a look....

1A West(36)
-----------------
SMC(7)
-----------
In Cherokee County last friday, both 3rd ranked Murphy(7-1 & 3-0) and Cherokee(8-0 & 3-0) got off to somewhat of a slow start, but both teams finally put away Hayesville(1-7 & 0-3) and Andrews(1-8 & 0-4) with the Bulldogs winning 56-21 and the Braves beating the Wildcats(32-12)...Both teams will have much tougher opponents that will define their seasons in the SMC this week as Cherokee will host Robbinville(6-2 & 2-1) for the SMC Game of the Week, while the Bulldogs will travel to Swain County(4-4 & 3-1) for one of the state's best 1A rivalry games....Swain County ran by(49-14) Rosman(2-7 & 1-3) last friday, while the Robbinsville defense made a late stand to hold off(27-26) an upset bid by the Home School powerhouse Hickory Hawks who were last year's NACA National Champs...

Thanks for your effort. The CC is a close race..

Your welcome, and yes it could be a Tri-Championship if Princeton beats N.Duplin, and Lakewood beats Princeton....The conference as a whole seems to be much more competitive this year with those 3 along with the addition of Union...Rosewood had a decent team last year, but may be rebuilding this year based on results....Overall, the Carolina Conference is a much more balanced conference than it has been the last several years.....

If you look back to when the NCHSAA recognizes the modern era of state champions in 1972, the Carolina Conference and the Smoky Mountain Conference have been the two most stable conferences in the 1A Class....
