As we enter the latter part of the football season, 1A teams around the state are making a push for Conference titles and Playoff berths...Last week, some of the 1A conferences had season defining matchups, while others still have huge matchups to come...Let's take a look at what happened in the 1A conferences around the state last week...

With 3rd ranked Murphy(6-1 & 2-0) Idle last week, 8th ranked Cherokee(7-0 & 2-0) moved into a tie atop the SMC with the Bulldogs, but it wasn't as easy as expected as Rosman(2-6 & 1-2) led at the half(21-13) before the Braves scored 26 unanswered 2nd half points to put the Tigers away(39-21)...Murphy will host Hayesville(1-6 & 0-2) this week...The Yellowjackets were shutout(48-0) at Robbinsville(5-2 & 2-1) last friday...In Bryson City, Swain County(3-4 & 2-1) put a fork(48-18) in the Wildcats of Andrews(1-7 & 0-3), and will now travel to Rosman this week for the SMC Game of the Week...

2nd ranked Mount Airy(7-0 & 1-0) scored at will against winless North Stokes(0-7 & 0-1) who reportedly had only 12 healthy bodies on the sidelines in the Bears shutout(59-0) win....Meanwhile in Pilot MT., East Surry's(4-3 & 1-0) smothering defense returned 2 first half INTs for TDs, and Sophomore backup QB Stephen Gosnell rushed for 2 more scores as the Cardinals shutout(48-0) Bishop-McGuinness(2-5 & 0-1)...In other NWC action, South Stokes(3-4 & 1-0) edged WS-Prep(1-5 & 0-1) in Walnut Cove(32-28), and will host Mt. Airy this week for the NWC Game of the Week..

In Bessemer City, the 10th ranked Yellowjackets(7-0 & 3-0) remained atop the SPC, but it wasn't easy as Union Academy(4-3 & 1-2) took the early 7-0 lead before backup QB Tyrus Logan found Zavion Williams open for a late 2nd Qtr TD pass, and Kianti Degree would then convert the eventual game-deciding 2pt conversion in the Yellowjackets 8-7 win...Down the road a piece, unbeaten Thomas Jefferson(7-0 & 3-0) beat(63-42) Comm. Sch. of Davidson(3-4 & 1-2) to remain tied atop the SPC with B.C...Over in Cherryville, Jr. QB Marcus Graham scored on the Raptors(5-2 & 2-1) first possession, and later passed for 2 more scores as MICS pummeled(48-6) Cherryville(2-5 & 0-3)...In Mooresville, Pine Lake Prep(3-4 & 1-2) picked-up their first SPC win with a shutout(30-0) of Highland Tech(2-5 & 0-3)

The YVC is looking more and more like a 2-horse race as 7th ranked North Rowan(6-1 & 3-0) QB Willis Mitchell threw 3 TD passes, and the Cavaliers defense did the rest in handing Albemarle(3-4 & 2-1) their first YVC loss(41-7), in Albemarle...North Stanly(6-1 & 3-0) also remains unbeaten in YVC play as the Comets shutout(62-0) South Davidson(1-6 & 0-3) in Denton...In other YVC action, South Stanly(3-4 & 2-1) continues to improve as Sophomore QB Jaquez Cooke ran for 2 TDs and passed for 2 more as the Rebel Bulls shutout(34-0) injury-plagued North Moore(1-6 & 0-3) in Norwood....South Stanly will host West Montgomery(5-2 & 2-1) in this week's YVC Game of the Week as the Warriors smashed(61-0) Chatham Central(1-6 & 0-3) in Bear Creek, last friday...

1A/2A WHC(3)

In Burnsville, Sr. QB Trey Robinson rushed for 95yds and 2 TDs in the first Qtr as the 8th ranked 2A Cougars(6-0 & 1-0) won their WHC opener(30-20) against previously unbeaten 4th ranked 1A Mitchell County(6-1 & 0-1)...In Black Mountain, 1A Polk County(5-2 & 1-0) opened WHC play with a win(28-14) over 2A Owen(0-6 & 0-1), extending the Warhorses losing-streak to 14 overall games...In Marshall, 2A Madison County(3-4 & 1-0) won their WHC opener(52-34) against 1A Avery County(2-5 & 0-1), and will travel to Mitchell this week for the WHC game of the Week...

1A/2A MVC(4)

5th ranked 1A East Wilkes(7-0 & 3-0) remained unbeaten with a dominating performance(52-7) at 1A Starmount(3-4 & 2-1) to hand the Rams their 3rd straight loss to the Cardinals...Meanwhile, 2A Wilkes Central(5-2 & 3-0) overwhelmed(69-26) 1A Elkin(2-5 & 0-3) in Wilkesboro to remain tied atop the MVC standings with the 1A Cardinals...In other MVC action, 2A North Wilkes(5-2 & 1-2) picked-up their first MVC win(35-32) in a hard fought game at 2A Ashe County(2-5 & 2-1), while 2A West Wilkes(5-2 & 1-2) did the same as they edged(34-27) 1A Alleghany(4-3 & 0-3) in Millers Creek, and will try to repeat that result this week as 1A Starmount comes to town for the MVC game of the week...

Bear Grass(5-2 & 3-0) hammered(52-8) Mattamuskeet(0-7 & 0-4) to remain unbeaten and atop the A-6 standings, while Columbia's(2-3 & 2-0) trip to Littleton ended with a 44-20- non-conference loss to NW Halifax...Meanwhile, Creswell(1-4 & 1-2) was Idle last week, and will travel to Mattamuskeet in the only A-6 game scheduled for 10/13....

6th ranked Holmes(6-1 & 1-0) opened their first ever AAC game in impressive fashion(76-7) as the Aces Pulverized Camden County(1-6 & 0-1)...Meanwhile, Manteo(6-1 & 1-0) pulled away to beat (34-7) Gates County(4-3 & 0-1) to open AAC play in Manteo...In Hertford, Plymouth(3-4 & 1-0) overwhelmed(46-7) the Pirates of Perquimans(1-6 & 0-1), and will now have the tough task of hosting the AAC favorite Holmes this week in the AAC Game of the Week...

Top ranked Tarboro's(8-0 & 3-0) path to their first CPC title seems all but assured as the Vikings obliterated(71-14) a decent Pamlico(5-3 & 2-1) team in Tarboro, last friday...Meanwhile, Northside-PT(3-4 & 1-1) surprised(14-8) South Creek(2-4 & 1-1) in Yeatesville last week...In other CPC action, Southside(5-3 & 1-2) ended a 3 game losing-steak with a 44-0 shutout of Jones Senior(0-8 & 0-3) who has scored only 6 points all season, and has been shutout 7 times in losing their 9th straight game...

In the CC opener, 9th ranked North Duplin(7-0 & 1-0) jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead, but later needed a late TD in the final minute to subdue(21-14) Lakewood(5-2 & 0-1) who had tied the game with a 2nd half rally....Meanwhile, Princeton(5-2 & 1-0) recovered an onside kick to start the 2nd half, and later scored in a 34-16 tough win over Union(2-5 & 0-1) who will host North Duplin this friday in the CC Game of the Week..In other CC action, Rosewood(4-3 & 1-0) extended Hobbton's(0-7 & 0-1) losing-streak to 16 games with a 41-7 win in Goldsboro to open CC play...

In Gaston, Northampton County(7-1 & 3-0) set a new school record with their 7th consecutive win as the Jaguars rallied to beat(22-6) SE Halifax(3-4 & 1-1)..In other TRAC action, North Edgecombe(2-5 & 2-1) hammered(42-18) Weldon(1-4 & 1-1) to hand the Chargers their first TRAC defeat...The Warriors will travel to SE Halifax this friday for the TRAC Game of the Week... Meanwhile, Kipp Pride(1-7 & 1-2) beat(24-12) Rocky Mt. Prep(3-5 & 1-2) to record their first win, and NW Halifax(1-5 & 0-2) ended a 43 game losing-streak with a 44-20 win over Columbia(2-3 & 2-0), so Congrats to both the Pride and the Vikings on their first win of the season...

10th ranked 2A South Columbus(7-0 & 5-0) continues to roll after beating(48-14) 1A East Columbus(0-7 & 0-5) in Lake Waccamaw last week...The Stallions will probably have a much tougher assignment this week when they host 2A Fairmont(3-4 & 2-3) for Homecoming...The Golden Tornadoes had 2A East Bladen(6-1 & 4-1) on the ropes until the final minute when the Eagles' Shy Pone returned a kickoff for the game-winning score(42-38) in Elizabethtown...Meanwhile, 2A Whiteville(6-1 & 4-1) kept their TRC title hopes alive as sensational Sophomore QB Ty Moss ran and passed for 2nd Qtr TDs to break open a close game as the Wolfpack put away(56-21) 2A West Bladen(3-4 & 1-4) in Bladenboro...In other TRC action, 2A Saint Pauls(4-3 & 4-1) destroyed(48-6) 1A West Columbus(0-7 & 0-5) in Cerro Gordo, handing Vikings their 19th straight loss...In Red Springs, the 2A Red Devils(4-3 & 3-2) edged(27-22) 1A South Robeson(2-5 & 2-3)

In Beaufort, 2A SW Onslow(4-3 & 3-0) remained unbeaten in the C-8 as the Stallions had 4 players(Josh Soltz(4TDs), Jakoby John(3TDs),Taighee Edwards(2TDs) and Caleb Mahone) rush for more than 100+ yds as they galloped(68-30) by 1A East Carteret(5-2 & 2-1)...2A Richlands(5-2 & 3-0) remains tied with the Stallions atop the C-8 after Jr. RB Emanuel Whitehead rushed for 3TDs and over 200yds in the 33-12 win at 1A Pender Co.(3-4 & 1-2)...In other C-8 action, 2A Trask(5-2 & 2-1) blasted(42-7) 1A Lejeune(0-8 & 0-3), handing the Devilpups their 18th straight loss...Meanwhile, 2A Croatan(2-6 & 1-2) beat(46-20) 2A Dixon(1-6 & 0-3) in Holly Ridge...

In Henderson, 2A Southern Vance(4-4 & 3-2) Sr. QB Elijah Stewart led the Raiders to a stunning upset(44-27) over previously unbeaten 2A Roanoke Rapids(7-1 & 4-1), a week after leaving the game with an ankle injury...The 2A Yellowjackets will look to keep their NCC title hopes alive this week when they face unbeaten 2A South Granville(7-0 & 4-0) who annihilated(67-9) 2A Warren County(5-3 & 3-2) in Creedmoor...Meanwhile, 2A Bunn(5-2 & 4-0) remained unbeaten in the NCC after destroying(56-7) 2A N.Vance(1-7 & 1-4)...In other NCC action, 1A Granville Central(3-4 & 1-3) got their first NCC win(20-14) at 2A J.F.Webb(1-6 & 0-4), while 1A Louisburg(1-6 & 0-4) was OPEN before traveling to 2A S. Vance this week...

NW Halifax beat Columbia 44-20 and KIPP over RMP 24-12

Wow....Guess that means that the longest 1A losing streak, and I guess the longest in the state is now over at 43 games...Also surprised by the Kipp Pride win over Rocky Mount Prep.....Thanks again for the info!

Not your fault. All the site are showing 41-00 ever our local paper. I guess they left the game early.
