I am a long, long time football coach. My concern is about the health of the players and coaches. A football season is not worth a kid getting this disease (which is real and more than just a cold or the flu. plus there is no summer flu season) or worse yet getting it and taking it home to parents and grandparents. I definitely do not want to take the risk of getting it. As far as kids playing and taking a risk of getting injured is concerned, there is a far greater risk getting hurt in spring practice in college than in HS. As far as playing from Feb. to April and then again in Aug. then most of you apparently do not understand that they go through pretty rigorous spring and summer workouts. That reason is pretty lame. Whoa mule is absolutely correct in everything he said in his post. The kids I have spoken to at my school have no problem with this. The only people who have a problem with this are some of the people not at practice every day, and not on the field during the games. These numbers of cases and deaths are growing every day. There is a reason for it. Why would anyone think that this would not happen on a football practice and game field or in the locker room plus the fans in the stands. Schools cannot afford to play a season with no fans. Why do you think these colleges are postponing their seasons. If you want to blame Governor Cooper, then you need to blame the president for treating this virus like it is nothing more than a common cold. Had he shut the travel down in and out back in Jan. we might have been able to contain this. But, instead he did not react at all. My point is you blame one you have to blame the other. Our president does not get a free pass and an excuse or justification every time he screws up.

I'll stay out of the political side of it, but it's not hard to understand that now that school is back in session the places with in person learning are going to blow up. The numbers are going down now but I doubt it will stay that way for long. The question will be if the exposures in school will trickle down into the populations that get hospitalized by it, and what the numbers of those hospitalizations are.
