For the third year in a row, the Eastern Plains Conference championship comes down to this final game matchup. Only this time, Beddingfield, 8-2, has a secret weapon: head coach Carl Smith. Smith is a SouthWest Cougar. Played for Raymond Cobb and coached the program as a DC under current coach JC Cobb. It's obvious that if anyone knows the SWE scheme and possibly how to defeat it, it's coach Smith. Smith is in his first year as a head coach, but as you can see by his record, he's doing a bang up job! In one year, he has transformed Bfield from a passing team to a power I team. The team owns the conference's leading rusher. However, even with the group's leading rusher, Bfield doesn't have an offensive production that should scare anyone. They average in the lower 20s. SWE is in the higher 40s. Bfield has been winning games with their defense, which ranks 2nd in the conference only to SWE. I do think it'll be a chess match, but I dont think Bfield has the horses on offense to keep up with SWE this year. Bfield did defeat SWE 10-7 the last time they came to Pinetops to force a conference tie, so it has happened before. But SWE should secure the #1 spot and HOPEFULLY the #1 or #2 overall seed. Gonna be hard to jump Clinton if they win though.

I hate garbage touchdowns. They make games seem closer than what they actually are. But that's what made this score what it is, but in all actuality, it was never ever close. I knew Beddingfield wouldn't be able to keep up if the score began to inflate. I just didn't know if the score ever would, looking at Bfield's defensive numbers. But that worry went out the window once SWE scored a 50 yard td run on the game's second play. I will say this, and I already knew this: Beddingfield's fb is a LOAD. That's a big boy. And he's fast. I could see why he led the conference in rushing. But it took a while for him to get started, thanks to SWE's defense. SWE forced Bfield to punt, but the snap was high and recovered by SWE at the 5. From there, it was easy to punch in it. The xp try was muffed, but it was 13-0 SWE, just like that.
Bfield got it going a little bit in the second, but boy, so did SWE! After a 35 yard touchdown pass made it 19-0, Beddingfield's big boy broke free for a 35 yard td of his own to make it 19-6. SWE received the ball at its own 28, but quickly gave the ball right back to Bfield after a sizzling 1 play, 72 yard td run to make it 25-6. But Beddingfield's horse answers right back with a 55 yard gallop to make the score 25-14. Interesting. SWE's next possession finds paydirt with a 42 yard td run, and on the ensuing kick off, Bfield lets the ball bounce at the 20, not knowing that the SWE gunner is coming full speed. Before the would be returner collects the ball, SWE is there to recover it in the red zone. A two play drive balloons the score to 39-14 with a minute left in the quarter. Beddingfield gets the ball at the 35. 1st play, they fumble, which is scooped up by SWE and returned all the way to the 4. A gimme 4 yard td takes things up to 46-14, and that's how the half ends.
More of the same was to come in the second half, as SWE implements a running clock in the 3rd by pushing the score to 60-14. Beddingfield scores the final td of the game late in the 4th.

SWE 13 33 14 0 = 60
Bfield 0 14 0 8 = 22

SWE will be ok, no matter who we face. I'll admit, I was worried, but after seeing what they just did against somewhat of a decent defense, I do feel better going against Clinton, Wallace, SWO, or Northeastern. We definitely didn't have a strong conference, but still, outscoring them 263-35 is still pretty darn good. The teams I just mentioned are way better than anyone in our conference, but I think we can go toe to toe with them.

It will be interesting to see where you guys are seeded if you go small. I have felt since week 4 that yall are as strong as anyone in 2A. This team just has that "look" about them.
