For the third year in a row, the Eastern Plains Conference championship comes down to this final game matchup. Only this time, Beddingfield, 8-2, has a secret weapon: head coach Carl Smith. Smith is a SouthWest Cougar. Played for Raymond Cobb and coached the program as a DC under current coach JC Cobb. It's obvious that if anyone knows the SWE scheme and possibly how to defeat it, it's coach Smith. Smith is in his first year as a head coach, but as you can see by his record, he's doing a bang up job! In one year, he has transformed Bfield from a passing team to a power I team. The team owns the conference's leading rusher. However, even with the group's leading rusher, Bfield doesn't have an offensive production that should scare anyone. They average in the lower 20s. SWE is in the higher 40s. Bfield has been winning games with their defense, which ranks 2nd in the conference only to SWE. I do think it'll be a chess match, but I dont think Bfield has the horses on offense to keep up with SWE this year. Bfield did defeat SWE 10-7 the last time they came to Pinetops to force a conference tie, so it has happened before. But SWE should secure the #1 spot and HOPEFULLY the #1 or #2 overall seed. Gonna be hard to jump Clinton if they win though.
