It was so great to be able to watch a game again. The last time I saw a b'ball game, it was Freedom vs. Huss in a sweltering hot Lenoir-Rhyne gymnasium. Spring of 2020. It's been too long.

Checked out PG last night over in Climax. The PG girls won easily while the boys lost a thriller in the last seconds.

I think the PG girls could have a decent season. They really got after it on the defensive end. Southern had no answer for their full court pressure. I really enjoyed the play of Brooke Ingram and Asia Stevenson.

I don't see many wins in Southern's future. I'll leave it at that.

That boys game though.......holy cow.....

PG came back from 11 points down in the fourth quarter to tie it up in the last seconds. A six-point swing off a Southern technical foul was the main catalyst.

However, the Storm drew up a winner. Coming out of a timeout with nine seconds left, they inbounded the ball and swiftly proceeded to hit someone inside for an easy bucket. It was too easy, to be honest. 56-54 was the final.

I'll start with Southern first......I think the Storm could have a decent year. They showed real good patience against the PG zone last night. SG has a fairly decent mix of size/athleticism. It also helps that they have a pretty good sophomore in Jamais Ferere. Ferere's around 6-5. He's not very flashy but he can bury you if you leave him wide open. He's also got a good feel for the game and is a pretty decent passer.

I also liked the play of their point guard (Millner). I liked his competitiveness.

Now to PG........

The Patriots will be fun to watch, if nothing else. PG's got some quick, tough, athletic players. They have more than a few guys who can knock down a shot or two.

PG's biggest enemy will be lack of size/good interior play. Southern hurt them quite a bit on the interior last night. I wish there was some way we could get Johnathon Foust a fifth year of eligibility. PG could really, really use him this year.

I do want to say that I am very glad to see Zane Caudle back in a PG uniform. Caudle had played at High Point Christian for the majority of his career. Playing against that level of competition looks like it's paid off. He looked really good and smooth running the point.

As a whole, I'm not sure what the future holds for the PG boys. If they can play their game, they'll be alright. In their conference, I honestly think they could finish anywhere from third to sixth.

4th HS in 4 years for Caudle? PG, Uwharrie Charter, HPCA and Grace Christian?
