I can’t even believe it’s almost over and 3 weeks or so before we start hearing dribbling and shoe squeaks. It’s gonna n the bag for some n playoffs and for others it’s gonna take a couple wins to get in. And then you have spoilers, for always enjoy those ha ha. Except when it’s done to my team but it is what it is.

Bandys, West, and North will be playing for playoff position and the higher the better to avoid having to play South Point or Hibriten so soon. Conference crown on the table too. Another interesting week of football we’re every down every yard every penalty could easily determine a W or an L. No dominate team in this conference like Hibriten is theirs.

So let’s do this-

Bandys and West Lincoln- could very well be conf game of the week. FFN encouraged to cover this one. Not trying to give West too much credit for their season even though they dominated in earlier games they are suspect in winning close against a struggling but still fighting Lincolnton team.
Mistake free ball for West will determine if they can get a win against a more athletic Bandys. Bandys will have to bring the A game as well. Could go either way ONLY IF West is flawless. Bandys by 2 scores.

North Lincoln and Newton Conover- with North on a roll and N-C under new management/different players i won’t in any way expect a game like last year. Close wins for North can make this be another game that can go either way. Both fighting for position but Newton can make a position spoiler for North too. Don’t help to play away for first playoff game but either way North should do ok. I’ll go with North in another nailbitter.

Lincolnton and LNC- just come to Pumpkin center. No further comment.

Maiden and EL- another position fighting game but this one would be just to get in or spoil one for East. I’ll say Maiden by a super close one especially if East still has key players hurt. Someone with bracket knowledge might wanna give an analysis on this one. This game in some years would be battle for first but not this time.

Bandys
north
Us
East

NC run defense is bad and north will be able to have a field day on it. Bandys will just be too much for west coming off a high emotions game against us but it is homecoming in Vale. If we lose to LNC we should be considered the second worst team in the state behind EG. maiden has thrown in the towel and east still can make the playoffs.

East is 2A right? I keep forgetting and sometimes it differs every year depending on enrollment.

Also it would be a toss up on the worst between EG and WCaldwell. If East Burke beat them 42 to zip and Maiden crushes EB by 60 something then what’s that tell ya lol

Hard to believe a team that started in the CO sweet 16 doesn’t even get in playoffs. Like I said in a post a couple months ago the sweet 16 rankings can be alittle off and sometimes way off toward the bottom. Years back they had East Burke and Hibriten on there in 2011 or so and both teams were terrible. They base it off what they did the year before sometimes and what their JV team did. I can see them putting stock in Maiden like that cause of undeafted JV team and some success with what varsity done and some players coming back.

If any of us see were this conference finish is going it’s gonna very well come down to a Bandys outright finish or a tie of some kind. Should North win Friday the stage is set even if they lose to Lincolnton that it’s gonna be between them and Bandys for all the marbles. What’s cool is nobody gave either team a top 4 finish. I had a feeling both teams would be different this year. North should only have one outright loss. I wasn’t at the TJ game but it was close. ACentral has enough athletes to keep North at bay but then Watauga and Freedom exposed AC heavy and Hickory May do the same. North prob coulda kept that game close to. First week in Nov is gonna be interesting. Expect a packed house at the Dungeon.

One of the last times these 2 met at North was in 07’ playoffs. One of those games nobody dared go to the bathroom or food stand in the 4th.

East is definitely big 2A. I see them and North jumping up to 3A possibly next realignment

Assuming EG is East Gaston, you are no where near as bad as us. I honestly believe we are probably the worst 2A team in the state. I never would have thought in a million years I would say that.

I was out of town and couldn't make it to the game but I refuse to believe you guys are as bad as I've heard. I hear y'all have some good jv players

Oh unfortunately we are that bad..... so far we have been out scored 369 to 76. With most of those points being given up in the 1st half. Worst defense I've seen in 40 years.

This is slightly off the subject for EGaston if ya'll are on them for a bit but I have a question. Is there another rising star on defense on Norths team? A soph DE that's getting sacks and making plays? Who is this guy??? lol

It will get turned around eventually.

#18 Travali Price.....He's been great so far this year. Has a big frame. When he fills out, he has the potential to be really good.

This kid, Williams, the QB, and Sorrus coming back, a soild JV team that prob has a few players that could play varsity right now as we speak wow expect big things from North Lincoln next year. I just wouldn’t go jinxing em’ by putting them on the CO sweet 16 yet this next coming Aug LOL

I still think Williams ends up elsewhere

Well boys the stage is set for Nov 2. Even if by chance Lincolnton beats North, it’s still down to these 2 for the crown. Bazzle has really brought this team to new heights and it looks like Newton really did lose a lot of players.

Nobody saw this showdown coming, nobody

North has a lot of young talent. In addition to Ty, and Trevali.. we got Daniel Carter a sophomore too making big plays on both sides of the ball.. a big kid. His twin Jack is Jv QB this year and I see big things coming from him as well. Ty Williams... yes he IS that good. And Travali WILL be playing Saturdays. I love to watch him play with all his enthusiasm. I can’t wait to see him tear it up in a few years when he fills in. We also have a great receiver Corp including Sam Brady and sophomore Seth Whitley. If we are able to expand our passing game.. those 2 will be standouts next year! North will stay strong for a few years to come.

I am sooo happy for these boys! They deserve it. Seniors Cribb and Harmon, are having great seasons and are great leaders pulling the team together.

You sure Williams and some others won’t run off to Mallard Creek or Hough?

Ty Would be the only question mark. All others are firmly planted.... I think:). There are a lot of people trying to help him reach his potential. Clayton Cribb getting offered out of North has opened some eyes... you can get a great offer out of a smaller school even during a 2-9 season. Perform on the field and there will be interest.

I figured. Kept hearing he’d be gone after this year most likely. But dang, friends, good team next year, a legend coach, what more does he want? Lol

It didn’t stop some of the Newton Conover kids so might not stop him either. Be better for him to stay cause at Mallard Creek, Hough, Myers Park there’s competition. Get more yards and TDs staying at a smaller school. RB TA McCellenden Albermarle. 1A school. 2002 NC State and almost pro. It can happen.

A coach with credentials, contacts at universities, winning tradition, and opportunities to create highlight reels. These are what young athletes with talent need. Larger schools are an irrelevant factor today. Huddle clips are the selling point. Oh, and check off all of those items listed above. Nick Bazzle has them all.

Well since Williams is the question mark and that he may read these forums I hope he stays and peers on the team encourage him to stay. Hate to think what the EL community thought or went through when the younger Surrat finished up at Lincolnton.

This sorta thing happens a lot supposivly at Heritage middle school. Any talent ends up at Freedom.

Your right Bazzel does have all that. Made a huge difference this year taking a 2-9 team turning them into a high seed playoff/possible conference champs and it being for the first time in school history.

This NL team is VERY identical to East Burke 06’ to 07’ . Won 3 games in 06’. 07’ takes the conference by storm and shocked tons of people. Lead by a FB Shatley(now with Jacksonville Jags) Cribb resembles him alittle, and team lead by a coaching legend Biggerstaff that Bazzle has coached against some and prob looked up to him and now works with NL coming out of retirement as Biggerstaff came out of retirement to work with EB. Bigg worked with EB a while though before that breakout season in 07’

It's just the nature of the beast. Kids move back and forth in Lincoln County all the time and for some reason everyone thinks Lincolnton are the only ones that benefit. I don't feel bad for the East community when Surratt left because East has benefitted off Lincolnton kids and kids from the huntersville/Charlotte area for years. I'm happy for North and that they're having some success because they deserve it. However, the window will not be open very long so capitalize while you can.

I’m sure it won’t be open long your right. History repeats itself with teams like this. North Gaston had a tiny run 07’ and went flop, East Burke had a heck of a Cinderella season in 07’ and a mysterious turn around in 15’ toward end of season for 2A but other than that they flopped hard. And yup North got a big spark in 07’ and fell hard like an Obama economy(ha go Trump). Lincolnton and East never stay down long Lincolnton especially will be a conference runner again cause they always recover from a drop in stock. So will Maiden.

That Wolf pride, history and tradition might catch Williams heart by his senior year. I know it happens.

North has been hardest hit... for a decade a lot of top players exited to east... including The Dollar boys. This year is the first time ever an East guy transferred to North. .. Ferrel is tough as nails and has been a huge help on D and is making plays on O. Now our CC team gets transfers every year because they are state contenders;) I really wish this wasn’t possible. But it is so there will always be kids..usually the parents making kids transfer.

I’ll be honest.. we’d of transferred had pack not been hired. We needed that. It was short lived but Pack helped change the culture... and Bazzle was the perfect choice for North. I don’t see him chasing the $$ for Another school like our previous Pack/beam.. He’s back to coaching because he loves it... and he loves the kids.
now what North will consider a successful season... others may not. This year has way surpassed it. #sledgehammer. Cribb will lead the way:)

Compared to last year an from 09’ forward I’d say this was a successful season.

When u talk bout transfers n stuff u see it big time in Charlotte. Malllard Creek May be home grown boys, kinda doubt it. Independence for YEARS under Tom Knotts had boys that you KNOW didn’t live in Mint Hill and in 07’ East Burke with all their real home growns, no Freedom transfers, no Hickory transfers, (I don’t imagine they did) took it to Indy hard but fell
Short by 2 TDs against what was pretty much the Charlotte all stars.

Charlotte Catholic and Christian...can have pretty much the best rich athtletic religious boys within 70 mile radius or more. Someone could live in Arkansas and go to Catholic or Christian if they wanna fly Monday through Friday and catch a cab or friend pickup LOL. But yeah when you have all that packed on one team of course you’ll be good.

People argue in Lenior all the time bout Hibriten and they stealing WCaldwel boys. I dunno man, most of them ARE locals and would arguably be best in state for all divisions.

It happens all the time and it aint changing anytime soon. East has for years benefitted from guys transferring in from all over the county including mecklenburg. Bazzle will help keep Pumpkin Center kids but for how long? Lincolnton will not be down long especially if there is a change in the landscape.... same for east.

Bout time to start South Fork week 11. I’ll have to look an see who’s playing and give my best espn outlook on em

Speaking with my connections in the North area, my take is that the Knights are mopping the floor with the other schools' JV programs. Blowout after blowout. If you ain't got no young'ns in the making, then you've go nothin to grow with. Looks like a strong 3-4 year run at North. Throw in their academics (yep, I went to the state report card site and looked through it) and North Lincoln is the place you want your kid. Now, if their basketball teams catch fire like their baseball, softball, cross country, track, and now football teams have, it could be very interesting. The snag will be when the Knights move to 3A in the next realignment. They're still a solid 2A size now, but they and East Lincoln are in the middle of a housing boom, and projections aren't good for maintaining 2A status for either.

Very true of Jv program. My guess is this will be the end of Ty’s 1/4’s this Friday so he may not see the jv Bandys game. But plenty of other talent. I fully expect another Freshman to step up Drake I think.

It’s almost a given on 3A next cycle. Way too much housing going in North and East.

And they will likely be a top 3 finisher in cross country, indoor and outdoor track ... men’s and women’s! Very solid distance program and field program

My main concern with North is how long will Bazzle be there? I have heard that he is holding place until his son is ready to take over but how much truth is there to that? North has all the tools you need to be successful and I am happy for the folks out that way to finally have something to cheer about on Friday nights. North has the athletes playing football and I think thats the difference from years past. I do see North being competitive the next few years if they can keep their kids away from other programs.

As for week 11 play, Ill take West at home over East coming off a tough loss against Bandys, Ill go with Newton over Maiden, Bandys, and I will go with North over my wolves but I will not be surprised if we win this one on senior night. A few kinks have been taken care of and we look like we are playing as a team now and have found somewhat of an identity. Our defense is actually pretty good but our offense and turnovers are what hurts us. Hoping we can play spoiler and prevent North from sweeping the county.

It's my understanding that Bazzle plans to be at North for awhile. Plans are for his son to be his QB coach or offensive coordinator next year unless his son gets a head coach offer some where.
I expect North to be the dominate football program in Lincoln County for the next several years. Not only do they have a very good JV team coming up, they don't lose much this year. They will feel the Cribb loss but I think they only have 3 seniors who are currently starters on this team.

I've seen several of Bazzle's practices this year and I am very impressed with his coaching staff, the structure of how his practices are run, and the enthusiasm from his players.
