Here we are! South Fork is fielding 6 teams this year. Two in 2A and four in 2AA.

2A
16 - BANDYS @ 1 - Mountain Heritage
10 - Thomasville @ 7 - NEWTON

2AA
9 - North Surry @ 8 - MAIDEN
12 - WEST LINCOLN @ 5 - Ashe County
11 - EAST LINCOLN @ 6 - Burns
15 - RS Central @ 2 - NORTH LINCOLN

Who advances? Who hangs up their cleats?

Four teams advance:
Newton-Conover
Maiden
West Lincoln in an upset over Ashe County
North Lincoln

Bandys and EL will hang up the cleats and get ready for basketball season

Well explained. Can’t really debate that one much. Ashe is tough team, if West can defend the pass pretty good and put pressure on QB then they should advance but not without a thriller. Ashe is kinda like the Hibriten of their conference, un challenged til playoffs although a Wilkes team upset them in a shootout. Should be interesting.

Looking over RS Central, they are not ones to sleep on, they have athletes but on paper North has it in bag. Upset potential- maybe 20%

That Burns or Hibriten coming to Pumpkin center looks promising but that 2nd round for the Knights, whew. Be a dosiey but Bazzel should have the boys prepared.

Can’t see Bandys advancing, Newton not likely but upset potential here 60%.

East, just give em’ your all and see what happens.

I’m gonna list my picks in order of easiest to toughest games to judge. My opinion only!

1. 12 seed West Lincoln rolls over 5 seed Ashe County.
Ashe county is the leading passing team and West Lincoln is the leading rushing team in the 2aa West bracket! However.....Ashe County was crushed by Avery County, Draughn mashed Avery, West Lincoln walked over Draughn! West will be so amped up to win their first ever playoff game and I see Bridges and Pendergrass running with vengeance and fury!!! Nuff said!

2. Gotta go with 6 seed Burns over 11 seed East Lincoln.
Even if the inconsistent East Lincoln Mustangs play their best game of the year... I think Burns takes them out. I hope I’m wrong! Go Stangs!

3. 2 seed North Lincoln over 15 seed RS Central.
The Hilltoppers are a good team and in my opinion comparable to the log jammed bunch that’s in the middle of the Fork conference. That being said... North should win easily, however, the Hilltoppers will not be intimidated, like the forkers who laid an egg, against North! RS Central plays Shelby, Burns, South Point so North better be ready!.. and I think they will be! I know the “Mighty Cricket” Soorus is ready!

4. 1 seed Mtn. Heritage over 16 seed Bandy’s.

That magical 16 seed from the South Fork! Bandys can play with the Cougars if they show up. If Bandys can hang around and keep the score low by utilizing time consuming drives it could be an interesting game. Both teams are gonna run a lot... but I think Mtn. Heritage’s defense will be the difference!

5. 8 seed Maiden over 9 seed North Surry.

In the 2aa west bracket...North Surry is the 2nd leading passing team and the Boom Devils are 4th. It’s gonna be a shootout! I love it! Sling shot football is my favorite kind of game to watch. I do believe that Maiden is a little better than North Surry but it will be a close game. Close game favors Maiden....cause we had a bunch of ‘em!

6. 7 seed Newton Conover over 10 seed Thomasville.

I’m taking home field advantage as the difference for the Red Devils. This game will be the best one in this area. Two great programs with history going at it! Thomasville is always fundamentally sound and known for defense and good coaching! Newton has to play smart to win this game. I say they can!

I agree with all above except I’ll take Thomasville.

What's the skinny on Newton?....A Thomasville fan wants to know

Newton-Conover: On offense: good run/pass balance. Their speed is more at the WR positions rather than the RB positions. The rushing attack is mostly pound it inside. QB is athletic....scrambles well, can escape the rush and make plays.

On defense: not as good as their offense but solid, excellent speed. Defense has continued to improve throughout the season.

16 - Bandys @ 1 - Mountain Heritage
Does South Fork establish themselves as the conference with the 16-seed Giant Killers with another upset two years in a row? Probably not. I'm pulling for Bandys and they'll hold on in the first quarter and a half. MH pulls away in the second half. Mountain Heritage wins.

10 - Thomasville @ 7 - Newton
This matchup is very interesting. Thomasville's conference as a whole resembles the South Fork and they finished about like Newton did. I believe the Thomasville defense is much better than Newton's and they'll win because of it. Thomasville wins.

9 - North Surry @ 8 - Maiden
Both teams finished second in their respective conferences...but Maiden plays in a much more difficult conference. Both offenses love to score but Maiden is on a role and has a better defense. Maiden is starving for a playoff win. Coach Will Byrne, since arriving at Maiden in 2016, has not won a playoff game (3 years with a first round loss). The last time Maiden won a playoff game? In 2015...against North Surry...in a "home" game that was played at Bandys due to Maiden's field conditions. It is time to get back on track. Maiden wins.

12 - West Lincoln @ 5 - Ashe County
Classic case of "the pass" versus "the run". West Lincoln has been baptized by fire this year because of how competitive our conference is. Big upsets will happen across the bracket on Friday and this match will be one of them. Extra motivation for the West Lincoln faithfuls: South Point most likely upsets Smoky Mountain. It'll be an odd way to get it done but...West Lincoln will host their very first home playoff game in the second round. West Lincoln wins.

11 - East Lincoln @ 6 - Burns
East is hot then cold then hot then cold. They got their cold game out of the way with Newton. They'll he HOT with Burns. The EL coaching staff has the ability to really get their kids up for the playoffs. I believe they give it their all...but Burns will be too strong in the end and will pull away in the second half. Burns wins.

15 - RS Central @ 2 - North Lincoln
North is a well oiled machine. They capitalize better than I've seen any team in quite some time. North is on a mission to give Shelby a "what for" and RS Central is in their way. North Lincoln wins.

Hibriten better take Burns next week so we can see a game that don’t involve “threeeeee twooooo deeeep” “threeeeee twooooo deep”
LOL

Well didn’t sound like it. Misunderstood lyric kinda like Jimmy Hindrex “excuse me while I kiss this guy”

Maiden, West, and North all advance. The NC and Thomasville game will be a good one but I believe the Dawgs are playing some good football right now and are very well coached. They are my darkhorse pick in 2A.

You guys know what to do especially north fans lay down those updates I’m going to be at freedom tonight but I’ll be at pumpkin Center in spirit ha ha

7 all tie at the end of the 1st here at Maiden. The refs have been very very kind to NS. If the secondary ref makes it out of here alive it'll be a miracle.

29-21 Maiden at the half. NS with about 4 unsportsmanlike conducts so far. Their #3 catches everything.

Looking like Hibriten have their hands full with Burns next week. North allowing 2 TDs what’s up

East had a terrible draw! Burns is tough!

impressed that the Hilltoppers have scored twice. Wow

The refs just awarded NS the ball off of their kickoff that didn't go 10 yds that we didn't touch.

That's the second time the refs have awarded NS the ball off of special teams that they didn't earn.

First time it was a line drive punt that we never touched but NS "recovered" it.

Both times it was the same referee.

Another couple deadball unsportsmanlike conducts later, a NS kid has been ejected. And they just had two more in one play and another ejection.

This is crazy to watch.

RB for Burns is the real deal, Fumble recovery at the end of the 1st qtr returned for 40 yds changed the entire game. Anyone that has stopped RB for Burns hats off, but if you can you will win the game, he is the best back I have seen in a long time and he is their offense. He broke a ton of tackles, multiple times pinned and turned nothing into something. Other than that offensively qb plays with confidence but not very accurate when he was WR struggled catching it, play very well together and seem like a good group of kids. Defensively athletic and play with enthusiasm but can see where a solid O will give them problems. Congrats and good luck next week
