How does everyone see the SMC playing out this year come conference time? It's hard to tell how the teams might finish based on the play thus far. Swain, robbinsville, hayesville and rosman without a win. Murphy with a few wins but seem very inconsistent, Andrews with one win but down big on talent this year and cherokee 3-1 for the first time in many years. Swain in 2006 and 2007 started 0-5 and 0-7 yet still finished with only two conference loses, I don't know when robbinsville last started without a few wins. I just can't see a clear cut dominate team this year and wonder what everyone's thoughts were

Looks like an 0-5 start is pretty much in the cards for Swain, but with a little luck in this year's SMC they could finish 6-5. Murphy and Cherokee and Robbinsville won't be easy wins, but if they stay healthy and avoid costly redzone turnovers, running the table in the conference is not out of the question. I think Murphy and Cherokee could say the same thing, though. Not so sure about Robbinsville. But the conference race is much more wide open this year than most.
I picked Cherokee to take the Conference in preseason as long as they have no key injuries. As usual though I think the shear numbers for Murphy and Swain can be the deciding factors by wearing the rest of the original 1A schools down. The big play brake your back kind of players are not at either school, but the number of fresh players both teams can throw at you are still there. Cherokee and Robbinsville will have to jump on these two teams early and play smart football with few turnovers and penalties then hold on for dear life
I think the 1 and 2 spot belong to Murphy and cherokee, and the 3 and 4 spot to swain and robbinsville, and the rest really just a toss up. while cherokee may not have the numbers of swain and Murphy they do have multiple weapons on offense with 4 good receivers and 2 good running backs and of course a true dual threat QB, I believe they can keep defenses guessing which will be a huge factor. I hear Swains QB is a solid player but I haven't heard much on any other standout players. Robbinsville seems to be heavily reliant of their #81 receiver when it comes to the air, especially when their fullback can't get started. Murphy should have plenty of weapons to go to. All together it really won't surprise me whoever the top 3 are as our conference doesn't seem to be in too good of shape.
Murphy is still trying to figure out the offense and right combination of players. Bulldogs are young and the lines are not big in size compared to other smc teams. I thought last year Blaylock and Mctaggert would play a significant role this season and they have to some degree. Murphy has talent, but hasnt found the right combination on offense yet. The defense will have its work cut out when Cherokee rolls into town in 2 weeks.
I have never seen a team with so many backs and they are all getting touches. As usual Murphy can send fresh lineman in throughout the game and never lose any size doing it. When they have that many backs and lineman they can wear a team down by 4 th Qtr or before. It's going to be interesting this year
