If one of the 3 came from the Asheville Association then yes, we all have. He is a shorter grey haired man and those of us that’s been around awhile knows he is new. He almost threw me out at the Blue Ridge game for being to close to the court. It’s not like our courts have a lot of room going to the restroom. Of course it didn’t help that I asked him if he knew the game of basketball or had he ever even played. He turned to me with a smirk and said he was ALL STATE lol. I horse laughed him. So whenever any our SMC fans see him at one of their games please address him as ALL STATE. He needs to be banned from officiatingWe had another 50+ fouls called game vs Blue Ridge last night. Rumor has it that the same 3 are also calling our game vs Cherokee tonight. Are any other SMC teams having the same issues with these 3 refs?
Yeah I was under the weather and didn’t make the Andrews game last night but my brother said the officials were ok and made bad calls against both. As long as they call it both ways i’m ok. ConsistentWe have been lucky I’ve fekt the games I watched I went to Hayesville and Andrews that the officials were ok not great but atleast didn’t call 50 fouls and become a free throw fest. That just ruins a game for me
Andrews had him at Blue Ridge, Swain ( which was the worse I’ve ever seen in my life ) and I think we had him against Rosman at home. We haven’t had him lately. They need to put him with Presley. They would end up fighting to see who was the Alpha Ref. LmboThat guy is a jerk. He will follow kids to the bench and constantly ask are you talking to me say one more word. We couldn't even play our starters in 2nd half because of fouls. One kid had 4 fouls before halftime. We had second string kids fouling out. 40 fouls at halftime 32 called by one ref. He is a professor at a college, and thinks he's above everyone. I told him last time he should pay me to watch this crap we shouldn't pay him. All I get to watch when he's reffing is free throws and I get home late even from home games.
Ridiculous ! ! !We had another 50+ fouls called game vs Blue Ridge last night. Rumor has it that the same 3 are also calling our game vs Cherokee tonight. Are any other SMC teams having the same issues with these 3 refs?
I don't like paying to get in game to watch two teams exchange free throws. It's been the worse this year. When I get in the gym I'm holding my breath to see which refs are there.I hate it for both teams.Refs in hayesville sucked I thought, along with a couple of there fans!! I don't like it when 1 team has 15 fouls to tha other havin just 1, that's what I don't like!!!!!
Me too. Dr ALL STATE is equally terrible for both teams. I’ve even heard him tell the kids to refer to him as Dr! He even has that on his name tag on his ref shirt! Lol
Are you kidding me. Lmbo. Dr All State. I hope I get to see him do one more game. Dr Doolittle more like itMe too. Dr ALL STATE is equally terrible for both teams. I’ve even heard him tell the kids to refer to him as Dr! He even has that on his name tag on his ref shirt! Lol
I think it’s time for the NCHSAA Head of Officials has a day long or more seminar teaching what a foul is or is not. Watch different game film and use it as a teaching moment so everyone can be on the same page across the state. Is it going to be perfect, NO, but they need to demand consistency and uniformity. I don’t want to hear that this group of officials let them play and I don’t want to hear that these officials call it tight. That’s too much confusion when all officials should call it the same night in and night out. Then our coaches can teach our kids just one style of basketball THE RIGHT WAY !! No more telling the kids they can play aggressive because this group will let you play. No more telling the kids that they need to back off because this group calls it tight. Teach the officials that they are only one way, teach them that the definition of a foul is committed then it’s a foul for everyone every game and I don’t want to hear it was a judgment call. Enough is enough !! With all the money that the NCHSAA have let them hire people to watch games which coaches send to them who feel like the officiating was way off. It’s time for accountability and put a stop to this out of control group of good ol boys who smirk at our fans and coaches because they know nothing is going to be done to their little club. It’s not fair to our student athletes for this to continueOfficiating across the state seems to be terrible. I've seen some games where they call everything and then I've seen games where they literally let the kids assault one another. As a result, neither team can get into any kind of rhythm and the games aren't entertaining at all. Not sure what the solution is as not many people want to be a ref so I'm sure the barrel is empty with selection. Seems like some refs come in games with a predetermined mindset of what they are gong to call, how they are gong to call, and who they are going to call for/against. Again, not sure of solution, but do not like to watch games where there are 30 plus fouls called and teams are in bonus 1st quarter. Glad to see/hear that it is not just in our area that refs are BAD.
Who are you addressing this to? Which one of us. I know there are some good refs. I'm only commenting on the 3 refs we have had 3 times now. And mainly the one ref. Trust me you sit thru a 70 plus foul feast. That is no exaggeration by the way. I tend to not mind the other refs. Are you Dr. All State? Did you get your feelings hurt? Just joking...With all that’s being said, sounds like you may have a future as an official?
We only had about 3 hand checks called. This was more jersey brushing. On every level games are called differently by different crews. Look at the NBA now. Can officials improve? Yes. But so can coaches and players. We always taught that officials are part of the game, just try to adjust to the way the game is called. Judgement can not be taken out of the game. Officials are suppose to call fouls when an advantage is gained, hence a judgement. One of the rules that results in “50+” fouls is the hand check. By rule every hand check is a foul. Everyone called is an example of rules that are called by the book. Do they all need to be called? Do they stop the flow?
Avery gets their officials from the Boone Officials Association. We are closer to Boone than Asheville by 30 minutes. We typically have a rough time with Asheville Officials when we have away conference games but I've only seen 1 or 2 games this year that were called very well.Do you realize the hand check rule is one touch only? Two touches is an automatic foul.
I have another question for you, have you noticed some of the officials calling both JV and varsity games in the same night? Have you noticed schools seem to get the same officials often? The reason for both is the same, the number of officials are shrinking. Sure we can all join the Asheville association, but here are the problems:
Our current officials will simply join their association and continue to be assigned to us to reduce travel.
Their association may not be able to cover all schools with varsity and Jv teams.
I foresee that the buncombe teams will get the best officials, due to the fact that they are larger schools with supposedly more talent and a sense of loyalty to those schools.
I know some of the schools from outlying areas(such as Avery). Book with other associations. The question is why? Must be some problems.
That’s what i’m talking about. Solutions. I agree with everything you proposed. Yes, it’s going to cost money but every dime will be worth it and it’s a win win for everyone. Good stuff. Thanks for your proposals now if only the NCHSAA would implement things like this. It’s not rocket science and i’m tired of bitching about it while our athletes sufferMy team has often not “been on the good side of the calls”.yes everyone should have to be accountable. The problem is this if we suspend officials for poor games then which school do they call and tell they can’t furnish officials for their game? One problem we have is that we are forcing jv level officials to call varsity games before they are ready. A few years ago we had a “mark off” system for officials. Each coach could scratch one official without cause. Eventually this system was scrapped because of a lack of officials. The question is is why can’t we find new officials? Why do the ones that start often stop after a year or two?
Here is my solution:
Increase game fees and travel fees for officials.
Develop a rating system for officials to be administered by a group of former coaches and officials.
Develop a system that will be used to Rank officials and determine which can call post season games.
Give good officials a “night off” to go watch younger officials and then help their with their mechanics and discuss some of their decisions.
All of this requires more money, but isn’t that the way most problems are solved.
