1.Mount Airy

Granite Bears didn’t sweat much vs. a hard headed but undermanned North Stokes squad last week. This week they go to Walnut Cove for the first time in 6 years to play South Stokes. 6 years ago South had an upset of the ages which helped West’s 2011 title team win the conference fully but this year MA’s a completely different squad. I don’t expect an upset here.

2.East Wilkes

The Ronda Cards rolled over a tough but overwhelmed Starmount squad. East is rolling like a well tuned machine right now and in their way this week is a struggling Alleghany squad who’s trying to recover from a multi game slide. East should be fine here but you never know..

3.Wilkes Central

The Eagles finally found their offensive IQ as they humiliated Elkin for a very nice homecoming win in Moravian Falls. The 69 points scored were the most WC’s ever scored in close to 60 years of play. WC has all the momentum now as they play Ashe County. Last year it was an ugly game for the Huskies as Central scored at will after many turnovers. I expect it to be a different affair this time.

4A.East Surry

East rolled to an easy homecoming win after a tough loss two weeks prior and a bye week. East could do no wrong in a slaughter of Bishop. This week however will be much different as they play a super athletic but inconsistent WS Prep squad on the road.

4B.North Surry

The Greyhounds rolled to a solid win over their county rivals last week. Offense sputtered in the end zone somewhat but the defense had a solid night as they limited Central’s option to only 7 points against North’s bench. Central’s starting offense failed to score which was humiliating for the Golden Eagles. This week it’s an entirely different thing for the Greyhounds as they travel to Winston to play Carver. Carver’s been unbeatable at home but West Stokes finally broke the mold a few weeks back. Carver did win last week over Walkertown so they will up for this but this will be a test for the Greyhounds of a different scope than last week. Carver’s the long wing T squad on the schedule.

4C.West Stokes

The Wildcats had the week off after their triumph at Carver so they should be rested up as they face an old foe in Atkins. The Camels and Wildcats had some real doozies a decade ago in the old North State 2A conference as Atkins was just starting back up and West was finding it’s oats as a program. The series is tied at 2-2; West won the first and last games while Atkins won the middle games. The last game was one of West’s true thrillers as they won 7-0 in OT in the 2008 final regular season game as it took until the OT period to put a TD on the board. I don’t expect that to happen this year but who knows with these two. Atkins is surging after their dominating win over Forbush and their close loss to Surry Central. West shouldn’t overlook the Camels.

7.North Wilkes +1

The Vikings of Hays managed to put an end to their losing streak last week but almost let the Huskies come back after a bad 2nd half. The Vikings issues have been showing these past few weeks as it’s quite obvious that this isn’t the same squad as the one from last year. However talent is still there in Hays. This week they face a very athletic Elkin squad who is reeling after 2 games with some 2A squads. Elkin has enough athletes to give NW fits however it will come down to which offense can produce to determine how this one goes.

8.Starmount -1

The Rams (like most of everyone on their schedule,) were dominated by East Wilkes last week putting an end to their winning streak. However I expect that to be a one off as the Rams will be facing with a down and out West Wilkes squad who hasn’t been very consistent in conference play. It’ll be a battle of the wings in this matchup; just depends on which variety will win out.

9.Ashe County

The Huskies had a solid comeback last week however it wasn’t meant to be as The Vikings of Hays put a end to it. However a performance like that by Ashe is a good sign that the talent’s on the up on the mountain. However things won’t be getting easier for them as they face as a rolling Wilkes Central squad.

10.South Stokes +2

The Sauras won their first conference game since the glory days of the Frasher era as South put away WS Prep very late in their homecoming game. WS Prep had a ton of yards and big plays however South proved more consistent enough to pull the win out. However this week they cannot hope to play like that and win as they face a jamming MA squad.

11.Forbush -1

The Falcons were surprisingly dominated by Atkins on the road last week as they struggled to stop Atkins’s pass blitzkreig in a 30 point first half which included a 90+ yard pass play. The Falcons managed to win the second half but like the West Wilkes game they gave up 30+ points by halftime and it proved to be too overbearing for the Falcons. This week they face a different test entirely as Surry Central and their option look will be lining up against them. Forbush has to stop Pilacios and maintain drives consistently to hope to pull this one off. Consistency will be key here for the Falcons.

12.Elkin -1
13.Surry Central +1

14.West Wilkes -1

The Blackhawks are struggling to find any consistency after the start of the conference. They managed to pull a win out of a hat last week as Alleghany came ready to play and made a war out of it. However West proved to be a little too strong fro the Trojans as they pulled out the W. However if the Blackhawks expect to play Starmount they gotta be more consistent.

15.Atkins +2

The Camels have came alive after getting thudded rather badly by a motivated North Surry squad in the conference opener. After a close loss to Surry Central; the Camels badly needed a win and they got it over Forbush. That win gave Atkins their best season in a good while and helped to show they aren’t a flash in the pan. This week they face a longtime foe in West Stokes who are equally hot right now. It could be a good game in King.

16.Alleghany -1
17.WS Prep +1
18. Carver +2
19.Bishop -2
20.Wallkertown -2
21.North Stokes

Mount Airy over South Stokes
East Surry over WS Prep
