1.Mount Airy

Come from behind win for the Bears last week over a solid West Stokes squad. This week it’ll be a different test altogether as they travel south to play a much improved Elkin squad. However MA will just have too many athletes for the Elks to handle.

2.East Wilkes

East’s offense is a juggernaut this year as they just smothered SC last Friday. Crazy part is that they are just getting started. This week hard hitting rival Forbush is in town for their endowment matchup. This will be a test for the Cardinal defense as Forbush loves to pound and wear down their oppenent. If East can keep the offense moving it could be another high scorer considering West Wilkes dropped 35 in the first half on Forbush in the opener.

3.Wilkes Central

Quite frankly the Eagles suprised me last week; I expected an easy night for AC but darn if WC didn’t show up and play hard. This week they got another longtime rival in Surry Central at home desperate for payback.

4A.East Surry
4B.North Surry

Ahh the two 4’s. They will be facing at some point here soon; the date’s in limbo. Set for tonight but weather’s iffy. Regardless I expect another hard hitting game. Last 2 have been close. 2 years ago was a thriller and last year’s game was closer than the score indicated.

5.West Stokes

Heartbreaking loss for the Wildcats last week as they almost pulled off a huge win; alas it wasn’t meant to be. However not all is dire for the Wildcats; this week they head to Boonville for their first game with the Rams since 2008. Expect it to be another intresting affair.

6.North Wilkes

NW passed their first checkpoint with somewhat middle of the road colors vs. South Stokes. The Vikings had to change their running game up to get an advantage and Chipman isn’t pleased with the offense. He vows to enter this bye week to advance the passing game.

7.Forbush

The Falcons had a solid and surprising win over NI last week at home without Zane Johnson in the lineup. Their run game dominated the Raiders who just couldn’t stop much according to the stats. This week’s gonna be the Falcons’s best test as they face the juggernaut known as East WIlkes.

8.West Wilkes

The Blackhawks continued their tradition of having the week 2 bye last week and should be good and rested returning to action vs. a young and in transition North Stokes squad. It’s hard to say which Vikings squad will show up but I expect it to be a nice tune up game for the Blackhawks.

9.Starmount

The Rams record has been deceiving so far. Yes their record’s 0-2 but they faced two longtime and stout rivals. This week returns West Stokes back into the mix. Starmount is at home for the first time this year. However can the Rams keep up with the speedy Wildcats? The Rams may try to use the weather to their advantage.

10.Ashe County

Again like Starmount the Huskies record is deceiving. The Huskies have a murder’s row of a non conference schedule and they are fighting it the best they can. Offensively the QB isn't missing a beat but the D struggles against powerhouse offenses. 2 more games of this the we can see what the Huskies will have vs Alleghany.

11.South Stokes

The Sauras have had their struggles however that was to expected as they had two top 10 teams off the bat. Last week’s matchup was deceving; South was in the game for a good while before mistakes gave NW an edge. However things are getting ready to turn upwards for the Sauras. They face a untested Trinity squad this week in a stretch of winnable games. Trinity has 1 win by forfeit and beat a young Bishop squad last week. This will be a good test for both squads.

12.Elkin

It’s been a better season already for the Elks than the last two years. Week 1 they ended their losing streak and last week they had an admirable matchup vs North Surry. They played the Hounds tough for a quarter before North got going like a machine and put it away. I expect the same performance for Elkin this week vs. MA. In two weeks though they have South Stokes and a chance at another W.

13.Alleghany

Alleghany has had a nice start so far. An easy W week 1 and a comeback win in week 2. This is the start Trojans have wanted so far and it’s looking like another solid chance at a W this week. However Alleghany faces their toughest test next week though in South Stokes.

14.Atkins

The Camel's had a bad go against an improved RJR squad last week as the Demons passed all over them from start to finish while Atkins struggled to move the ball consistently. Very much a 180 from the opener. This week brings a return to the Reagan/Atkins rivalry that used to be solid back 10 years ago.

15.WS Prep

The Phoenix opened their new era with a respectable offensive performance vs. Parkland; however their defense needs work. It probably won’t be pretty when they matchup vs. the pass happy RJR Demons but if WSP’s offense still produces points expect them to be fine when they hit conference time.

16.Surry Central

Central went up against the EW juggernant on offense and got hammered for their efforts even if their offense did a respectable job. The Eagles have another rough go this week vs. a solid Wilkes Central squad hungry for revenge after a year. Defensivly this will be a test for the Golden Eagles as they face a ton of athletes all over the field; first test of what to expect in conference play.

17.Walkertown

Last week the Wolfpack were cannon fodder for Glenn who ran all over them while getting a shutout. This marks the second rough performance in a row for Walkertown. This week will be more interesting though as they face a hard to tell Parkland squad. Parkland lost a lot of solid kids and gave up 20 to Prep last week. This could be a week to see what the Wolfpack has. However it’ll be a test to see if both squads can stay cool headed; last year’s matchup didn’t end very well…

18.Carver

The Yellow Jackets were humiliated last week vs. the Giant known as West Forsyth. It’s hard to say if it’s due to WF being that good or Carver being that down. The score indicates both. Carver did manage to score but it was after being down a ton of points. It won’t get any easier for the Jackets as a solid Glenn team comes to the hive hungry for a Win after their last matchup 3 years ago which was down to the wire and went crazy. Glenn got a shutout last week over Walkertown so they will be going for another while Carver needs to produce more points. Something has to give.

19.Bishop

Bishop’s struggles continued last week as Trinity had no issues while all Bishop could manage was a safety. It doesn’t get any easier for the Villains this week as a surging Alleghany squad comes to Kernersville. However it may give Bishop a chance to be more offensive this week however given Alleghany’s start to the year that’s not anything to take for granted. Things look better for the Villains in a few more weeks as they have Atkins and the Greensboro Panthers on the schedule. In the case of the latter it could be their chance to break on thru and get a morale boosting win.

20.North Stokes

It’s hard to believe saying this but the Vikings had a better outing than the score indicated last week vs. North Moore. It was only 7-0 at halftime before youth and inexperience killed their chances. However a close half is what the Vikings needed to show they have potential and hopefully it will build up for them. However the next two games will be rough for the Vikings as they renew two tough Wilkes county rivalries.
