What's the comparison in win percentage from last year compared to this year in NC high school football predictions?
How can you have East Bladen at 16 and South Columbus at 18 when South beat East at East?
You also have 2-3 Clinton at 15 when 5-1 East Bladen beat them at Clinton 35-16! Come on man, how are we supposed to take these rankings seriously?
It's like you have strength of schedule as too high of a value in your formula. Yes it matters, but wins should certainly trump "good losses". Look at Clinton and East Bladen's schedule and results. Yes Clinton has a very difficult schedule, but who have they beaten that vaults them to #15? What win do they have that trumps their loss AT HOME to East Bladen by 19 points?
Give him a break; it's a formula that comes out of a computer based who you played, who you beat, and by how much (that's usually more than 80% accurate picking winners), not an eye test where he's watched film on 500 teams and scored them on a rubric, and subjectively thinks a team will beat another one
After years of following, I think Simmons Ratings are a better representation of what to expect than maxpreps rankings if I'm trying to pick winners of games or fill out my bracket....similar power rating but slightly different formula....(possibly based on how many starters they returned from the year?) before while maxpreps (and HighSchoolOT) is purely this season only (which has its merits too, that's probably why the state is using maxpreps for the playoff seedings, in not giving any precedence to anything from last year). I play in 2 pick em contests every week and will go against the Simmons Ratings probably on average 2-4 games out of 20-25 games picked after I go look at each team's schedule, who they played, who they beat, etc...Of course any ratings and rankings don't look at things like weather, injuries, potential for penalties, turnovers, etc, not to mention that we're dealing with teenagers here, not professional adults
With that said, there's no perfect rating system and no perfect seeding formula, just like there's no perfect foolproof way to pick winners games, that's why we play the games and why we love sports (or hate them sometimes)

Looks like he was 82% right for all of last year including the playoffs.....and its 82% accurate so far this year
So you think the two situations I described above are accurate as far as their power rankings?
Sure wish he would update the consecutive streak link....it's always 2-3 weeks behind schedule....but I give kudos to his site,,,overall does a very good job....................
One thing for certain Schs96, y'all may have won by one stinking point and goes in the record as such,but EB should have put that ballgame away in the first half, the turnovers that we had deep in SC territory were killers. I think some you posters from over there may not have been there. I still say the overall better team didn't win that night. I do hope there is another rematch and don't care where it is played. I can tell you this South Columbus better not hiccup against Whiteville the last game of the season, if so! That changes everything completely. As far as Simmons goes, he does a fantastic job and a good success rate. He can't do anything about the strength of schedules

These power ratings are such a crock of bs....we always notice how the southeast gets disrespected on these bias ratings and msg boards... Week in and week out always the same bs... Can't wait to settle it on the field...bet your ratings will still say the same crap...
Let me just say that no one is making you read these predictions. Mr. Simmons works hard week in and week out to post these up here for our enjoyment. Whether you like the predictions or not, do not degrade his posts due to them not being in your favor. Talk about disrespectful.

Ask Mr. Simmons who we play... We have beat two of his top rated teams this year...plus we lost in East Finals last year, and I know our non conference games are tougher than the ones your team plays...check.our schedule, then check your mouth...

Schedule is weak as water besides Holmes and DH Conley. And, the only other team in your conference that is above .500 is First Flight. That’s funny.
Maybe you should go check our schedule bud. SWO, Jacksonville, Ayden Grifton, Wallace, and Goldsboro all with winning records.
And I would put ED, Wallace, or Clinton against anyone in your conference. Face the facts, YOUR conference is weak.

You like throwing around cupcake teams...but if I remember our cupcake conference was 1 touchdown away from repping the east in the state finals in 2 divisions... Hertford Co fell short...but Holmes represented the 2a East...now let's remember there was a 3 way tie for conference champs...NHS lost to Holmes in a barn burner, but we just reloaded and repayed them ...and we just repayed Hertford Co tonight.. So keep calling our conference whatever you like...and trust and believe we ready for.whatever... And don't forget 2 of our cupcake teams were in the 2a &2aa Eastern Finals...must be sweet , like a cupcake

Streaks are now updated coming into this week.
I have S. Columbus with the #75 schedule in 2A and that is hurting them. Once they beat some better teams, their rating should go up.

Btw pretty sure ED took out HC last year in the playoffs. I really wish Holmes or Northeastern would go 2AA.

My oh my. Why in the world would any computer program have the gall to rank the present Reidsville team higher than the greatest Shelby teams of all time?
Maybe the Shelby fans should petition to have the Simmons ratings banned from the universe. After all, we are told repeatedly how the Shelby football program is the greatest in the history of football in North Carolina. Surely any computer program that does not recognize that fact cannot have any creditability.
Why everyone knows that Shelby Lion and Champ 98/72/next number up
know more than any silly computer.
We BEAT East Bladen AT EAST BLADEN. No reason on this EARTH they should be ahead of us in the rankings!
I'm not worried about Whiteville, if we play like we are capable of playing, we beat them, bottom line. I also wouldn't hang my hat on the Eagles beating South in the playoffs as we have pretty much owned them in the playoffs. The last few times we have met in the playoffs
2010 East beats South 26-12 after we had beaten them 35-21 at East Bladen in the regular season. We refer to this as the injury game as we lost at least 7-10 starters for that game.
2011 South beats EB at EB 10-0
2012 South beats EB at EB 24-24
2016 South beat EB 42-41
I'm sure there would have been more but your East Bladen team dropped down to 1-A from 2003 to 2008, and those where some of our very best teams in school history! Especially 2007!

I think it just means that if they met again this week, that it would be a dead heat pick for his system if the game was played at SC with the two bonus points for the home team....part of the reason why EB is so high is because they beat Clinton....and Clinton playing Cape Fear means that now that CF is on a roll, them winning helps Clinton's SOS, which help's EB's SOS....for SC, i'm not sure if the Loris game gets figured into the rankings since it's an out of state opponent, and the Byrd win on the surface looks good, beating a 3A school by a lot, but now that they're 0-8, that's probably what's pulling down SC's SOS....1 point game between EB & SC happened, and if they played again, his rankings last week would project another close one between the two teams
Once again strength of schedule is factored in too heavily in his formula. Especially when you have teams being ranked behind other teams that they have beaten on the road. I guess I need to tell our coach the schedule Mallard Creek, Butler, Eastern Guilford, so we can be ranked #1!
I'm not saying EB should be in the 20's, but when SC beats them at home no matter the score, there is no logical way that they should be ranked ahead of South Columbus.

And what about Clinton's rating over East Bladen? Clinton lost at home to East Bladen 36-19 and their only wins where to James Kenan who is way down and 2-4 Southern Lee, while East has only lost to South Columbus. So you're saying since Clinton played, and LOST to some tough teams they should be ranked higher than the same East Bladen team that took them behind the woodshed at Clinton?
I believe SimmonsRatings himself said earlier that Clinton is probably too high right now because of the way the formula is set up, and it will work itself out over the next few weeks; any of these computer rankings, when calculating based on wins, margin of victory, strength of schedule, etc. can only figure in games that have already been played...Clinton still has to play ED & WRH, if they pull off a win in either game, or even keep it closer than the ratings say, they'll go even higher...if they blown out in both, then they'll drop, if they lose both by around 3 TDs, then the current ratings are about right....before that I'm curious to see how they do against Goldsboro, who ED just pulled away from and eventually blew out after only leading 14-6 at halftime...Sure, if a bunch of individuals were sit down and do their personal actual rankings like the voters in the AP poll for a college Top 25, then head to head might influence their votes (of course, How many times over the year's have you seen one week #18 beat #10 then the next week the old 10 drops to 13 and the old 18 goes up to 14 [still behind the team they just beat]?), but again neither Simmons' nor maxpreps nor any other power ratings are put together from watching games, but it's all a mathematical formula...I appreciate the trouble he goes to every week punching every score of every game to keep it updated....I know there a lot of good football folks that follow certain regions of the state and see a lot of teams play in their area, and might even travel to see a couple of teams outside their region, and that his formula doesn't get 100% of games right...typically right around 82% the last couple of years, but those are still pretty good odds; I can't bash his whole system because it's not 100% accurate at picking games or a few teams wind up ranked ahead of teams they lost to after the data gets plugged in
