Shelby's Malaki Hamrick Named MaxPreps North Carolina High School Football Player of the Year

Wallace Rose Hill’s Kanye Roberts - 2021 NCPreps Offensive Player of the Year

Salisbury’s Jalon Walker - 2021 NCPreps Defensive Player of the Year

All three players from 2A programs.
Has that ever happened before?

Maliki played the other two in Championship Title Games.
Has that ever happened before?

Totally not true! If that was the case Travis Shaw would have made the all-state team because he is the highest ranked player in NC ever on Rivals.
Well, Shaw did miss 8 games due to his injury.
Kinda disqualified him from a full season award.

But Deana, we do have a question.
Why would you guys place something as statewide, cross classifications as these three POY winners only on just the 2A board?
We would want to know who won the award on this board no matter what classification they come from, and others must feel the same.
We know you placed it on the home page, which we do not view often.
As you are aware, we have an ongoing debate with others and on other boards, where some choose to mock lower classification teams, programs and players as somehow, not as worthy of elevated recognition, specifically because they perform against smaller schools.
That has never translated as accurate, or even sensible.
It has nothing to do with a large school actually playing against a smaller school.
Classifications exist nationwide, and for logical reasons that some choose to ignore.
Thank goodness quality D1 college football recruiters and programs do not share such nonsense. All three POY were heavily recruited and ended up at UNC, App State, and Georgia.

This is a remarkable year, with all three coming from 2A programs. Strong proof of the talent and level of competition at the 2A level.

Unfortunately, by placing your notification only on the 2A board, it does leave the impression that your staff is avoiding confrontation from those that cannot see past the 4A level and the metro areas. Great players, teams, and programs come from all classifications statewide.
It is not merely a student population factor.
We ask again to please place your POY notifications on all four boards.

It is past time to change the paradigm.
By definition, a paradigm is a standard, perspective, or set of ideas. A paradigm is a way of looking at something. ... When you change paradigms, you're changing how you think about something.

I tried a couple times to research your question while I was at work today.

Has it happened before?

I hate Fridays!…too damn busy for this crap! I’ll keep digging!
A master piece…on this post! I mean that!

Wondering if it’s Deana?…cause I’m freaking glued!😂

I thought 2021 was an unusual year where so many 2a teams were ranked in the top 100 in the state. I posted it earlier on another thread during the season….6 or 7 of those 2a teams were ranked in the top 30.
As a die hard Maiden fan, I’ve encountered the same thing…when the discussion is about small high school football…that “2nd to None” speaks of. Most of my arguments are with the South Carolina boys that I see frequently due to my job.
It is what it is!…the debate will certainly continue.
As for Deana…I figure she feels the same way about small schools and their players as I do. She is a Starmount fan. 😉
As for her post…can’t help but chuckle and say….No good deed goes unpunished!

He was hurt so he couldnt get put on the team.

This is a Rivals site. Of course the highest Rivals ranked kids will get first choice. Otherwise there would be some different names at most positions.
And also it should be noted that Rivals ranks primarily seniors and some juniors, very few underclassmen.

Shaw should not make any all state team simply because he played only a couple of games this year. Using him to refute the Lost One's argument is misleading at best.

Maybe this All State team should be called the best of the 4A players with a couple of others thrown in who also rank high.

We are still patiently waiting for an answer to our question above.
We know Deana, Chris, and a moderator or two do read these posts, and are the only ones to fill us in.
Why no response?
Is that the response? Pound salt.
We deserve better.
