We post this on all boards as this is an historical accomplishment in North Carolina high school football, regardless of classification.
By winning tonight in 2021, the Shelby Golden Lions will now appear in a State Championship Game for a record 7th Consecutive DECADE.
Previous years include; 1963, 68, 69, 70, 72, 74, 75, 76, 86, 87, 88, 97, 98, 04, 05, 06, 07, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19 and now 2021.

It sound like 2nd To None has become the OFFICIAL VOICE of the MIGHTY GOLDEN LIONS. And by the way THE VERY YOUNG KM MOUNTIES have BEATEN this HISTORICAL TEAM 2 out of the last 3 years.

You know what bothers me the most about this ..... is the fact that the accomplishments of everything before 63 are not counted also. Shelbys been playing football for what over 100 years.... That don’t matter ? I just don’t like the whole “modern championship “ crap. And I’m not even a Shelby fan

We are not sure why others do not feel the same. It has nothing to do with Classifications.
Half those Championship Title games were played at 3A level.
We did post on the other three boards, but it was removed by the moderator.
It is NC high school football history making. Not ra ra, yay our 2A team.
Guess some can’t tell the difference.

Trust us. We get it.

We always pay homage to the past.

In this case, Shelby did not appear in a State Championship game in the 1950’s. Thus the consecutive decades streak begins in the 60’s.
Shelby also appeared in 1947, 1944, and in the “no classifications period” in 1924.
We respect and acknowledge all Championship Titles won in NC.
We do feel that the 1968 modern era, especially as it relates to integration, does define a transition point for the record, as does the 1977 merger of ALL NC public high schools under one governing body.

lol @ split. i don’t mean that in a bad way … it just reads like he was holding out for a stat like this to cement the idea of shelby being THE state power in nc high school football.

why is it history making? before last night, was shelby tied with one (or more) at 6? or just continuing to break their own previous record? this historical achievement is all but assured to broken next decade, too.

yeah, it’s a “neat” nugget of information for shelby community and shelby historians … but it’s not going to “wow” everyone across the state.

unless you’re living under a rock, you damn well know shelby is the gold standard in nc high school football … i’d bet this stat surprises almost no one.

i’m not sure it’s possible for any of us to have more respect and admiration for the longevity/sustained success of shelby high school football.
