Both out in the second round? Are you kidding me? The "gold standard" of North Carolina high school football, as some of you Richmond faithful claim?

Well, you got the "gold " part right. The Golden Lions.

After visiting Reidsville Friday night, it will give some residents of Shelby a little more time for the activity featured below.

Reply by GDG:

I believe Reidsville has 5 or 6 more state football championships more than Shelby. Would that not make them The One and Only True Dynasty? I remember the state legislators designating Reidsville- The Football Capitol of North Carolina. I know you hate it, but it happened.

Now Shut Up and Get Me My #2 Quarter Pound Combo With Cheese. Breaks Over.

Shelby v Richmond next year in the regular season for top program in the state.

"You cant even beat Scotland County anymore" , why would Scotland be involved in this topic.
They are nobody's whipping boy anymore and I do believe since the beginning of 2011 have
the best record of any 4a team. 54-4 (MC 53-4)

And Shelby continues to be totally irrelevant to North Carolina football while Richmond Co, Independence still matter.

Just be glad you don't have to play 3A schools Crest and South Point in your little playoffs. Maybe you can actually beat some 2A schools and get somewhere, although I doubt it.

Poor 98Chumpion. Once a proud Lion who donned a gold Shelby helmet. And now:

1. Wears a soft shell helmet even to bed
2. Gets fed by momma Gerbers green peas
3. Has a Donald Duck sippy cup
4. Wears pajamas with feet to Wal-Mart
5. And talks to his friends that don't exist

We still love you 98Chump, you will always be special to us.

Is there a meme for behavior like this?

Gotta admit all these pot belly arm chair quarterback coaches crowning their schools world champions is entertaining though.

btango, we exposed you as a closet Richmond homer a long time ago. Then we discredited you as any valid authority on these matters as we showed your historic information to be erroneous, mistake filled, and biased. Surprised you came back for more, Monty Python.

Such is your ridiculous offer to play it on the field. However, we will give you two options to consider;

1. Take a random cross-section of 800 Richmond students across all 4 grades. Then form your football team from that group and play us. That's what we do.

2. Allow Shelby at 800 to combine with Crest at 1200 students to approach Richmond's student population. Then play us.

You want some of that, Monty?

Its all speculation. Maybe RC takes 800 kids and drops to 2A and wins 15 straight state championships. Maybe Crest and Shelby combine for 20 years and win none. What we can state is that in most years it is more difficult to win the higher up you go. What Shelby has accomplished is very impressive. What RC has accomplished is very impressive as well. I think RC success has been more impressive.

Not really a poll guy, but Shelby is ranked #53 in the State Maxpreps. To Funny!
laugh.r191677.gif
When has a Dynasty been ranked that low on anyone's poll. Stop starting stupid threads, knowing damn well you are not a dynasty. Take your butt back to the little boy forum....lol! On your way back bring me a cold one, and make me sandwich.

So let me get this straight...

You're saying that Shelby is a premier dynasty in this state because IF they could combine their little program with the bigger 3A program next door, then they would have enough horses to play with Richmond?

Alrighty then. I guess that answers that.

Here's the reality, though...you can't...and you don't.

It's just like arguing with a woman(no offense to any ladies on the board, just saying). You don't get anywhere with logic or placing mirror in front of face as you just did. The objective on the other end is distance, irritation and some how by sheer will to get you to concede by any means....sense and sound reasoning is irrelevant.

I don't want to diminish what SHS has accomplished but this guy opened the door so.....
Shelby has lost 30 games from 2008-2014. In that span they have won it all once and lost in the 4th round once and the 3rd round twice. Many average 3A schools have beaten them and some have pounded them. Some of these schools aren't much bigger and not nearly as big as 4A schools. This shows that it is easier to win in the smaller classes. In 2006 SHS goes 8-6 and loses in the 3rd round by a touchdown.

Try the 2A boards re Sheby vs. Reidsville.

98Chump has a major hatred level for Reidsville and all other teams that might be a threat to his claim of Shelby being North Carolina's True Dynasty Football Program.

I have had him on Ignore since last year because I tired of reading his boring hatred.

hokietmc and Chopper747, we went over this with you guys over a year ago and, along with btango, you Richmond posters all went away with your tails between your legs when slammed with accurate and factual information you could not refute. Are your memories that short or are you just choosing to ignore the truth?

portcityFB just proves it again in his last post with errors, mistakes, and bias. port may want to check again on Shelby's playoff performances and of course he chooses not to mention our wins against several 4A teams, including some of the largest schools in the state. And the last time we looked at 2006, Shelby's Golden Lions were standing in the middle of Wake Forest's BB&T Stadium holding up the Championship Trophy at the culmination of a 16-0 season and third of 4 straight State Title games.

Check your shoes, port. You're stepping in it like your buddies here did.

Check out calpreps.com North Carolina dynasty ratings, which cover every team in the state over the period of 2003 to now...

http://calpreps.com/North_Carolina_dynasty_ratings.htm

If you have trouble reading (likely, I would think), then I can recap for you here...

#1 - Independence
#2 - Butler
#3 - Mallard Creek
#5 - Richmond
#6 - Charlotte Catholic

Guess who's nowhere to be found in the top 5, top 10, top 15 or even in the top 20? I'll give you a hint...the name starts with letters S H E L B Y.

Oh, and congrats to Reidsville for their very solid top 15 showing. Very impressive given their size, and that makes them calprep's top 2A program in the state. Well done!

The last argument between you and I started when you went to each classification board starting a thread boasting of Shelby's greatness and tradition. No one denies Shelby's success and most of us have a great amount of respect for the program.

The argument was twofold centering on my statement that no where I have been to a game outside of NC has anyone ever brought up Shelby as a football power and the second dealt with the now defunct WNCHSAA titles.

Our disagreement was over your counting a Western NCHSAA titles as "state" championships. I still stand by my statement that as great as the football played in the WNCHSAA having 32-42 teams consisting of 2A and 3A sized schools in a centralized geographical area of the state is not the equivalent of a 3A NCHSAA championship that had 95 schools. Definitely there were years that the WNCHSAA champion would have won a state wide 3A title and other years they would not have.

As far as me going away with my tail between my legs, I think you have confused me with someone else that you successfully bullied.

Simple typo dude. I meant 2010. I saw Shelby play that year. Kann beat them 44-0 at Shelby. Kann was not very good that year, by their standards. They beat a bunch of bad teams and lost to all the good teams.

Now that's more like it. This is gonna be fun. And easy.
We'll take you one at time.

hokiemtc- you must be proud of yourself. Bet you are all struttin around thinking you got us good. Even got your Reidsville buddies going. That will take about 1..2..here it is. Check out maxpreps.com dominant ratings, which cover every team in the state over the period of 2004 to now.

http://www.maxpreps.com/news/xvd4P2f2S0aFOyracpf6sg/top-20-most-dominant-north-carolina-high-school-football-teams-in-the-maxpreps-era.htm

A recap?
#1 - Independence
#2 - Butler
#3 - Charlotte Catholic
#4 - Dudley
#5 - West Rowan
#6 - Reidsville
#7 - Richmond Co.
#7 - Shelby

How can that be hokiemtc?

Because you just made our point perhaps more convincingly than we ever could have. Rankings and polls are subjective. They are opinions. They vary. And who said we are talking about just the last 10 or 11 years? Nobody sees Indy as the #1 program all time, not even you. They had their run, as many have. There is only one program that stands the test of facts, performance records, definitions and time and comes out as "the most successful, sustained, winning program in all of North Carolina high school football, the true dynasty. The Shelby Golden Lions.

Next.

Nice link, but Shelby still isn't ranked higher than Indy, Reidsville or Richmond.

If you're talking about all-time sustained excellence, then here's a list of the top 30 all-time winningest teams in NC history (minimum 200 wins)...

This data is probably a couple of years outdated, but Shelby still doesn't beat Richmond, although you do beat Indy in win %. However, considering who Indy and Richmond have each played and beat to win their 7 ea 4AA state titles compared to who Shelby played to earn their titles, I'd say this is a still a very sizeable gap. For Richmond's percentage to be that high and for them to ALWAYS have been playing the biggest schools and the best competition the state has to offer speaks volumes about their all-time greatness. Shelby? Ehh...not so much.

For reference sake, Butler will very soon (next year, actually) easily be #2 on this list (currently 189 - 53...78.1%). It will be a while before Mallard Creek hits 200 wins, but they currently sit at 79 - 26...75.2%. At the rate they are winning football games (now and in the foreseeable future), they have a serious shot at being #1 one day when they reach the required minimum number of wins.

Also...notice how Butler and Indy are ranked #1-#2 in every single one of these rankings over the past dozen years or so?

Imagine how dominant either one would've been if they weren't in the same conference and playing each other (and knocking each other off) twice a year during most of this time.

Hokiemtc- Yes. We are talking about all-time sustained excellence. So here's a list of the top 2 all-time winningest teams in NC history (minimum 600 wins)...

1. Shelby ----.7053: 677-268-51
2. Reidsville----.6726: 628-296-38

This is too easy, Monty.

Richmond has excelled for 40 years since the doors opened. That is not "sustained" excellence?

Richmond has been the best program in the state for many decades. Will be for future decades. Winning promotes winning.

Oh, OK, I see it now. You have to set the criteria in such a way that you eliminate 90% of the other teams in North Carolina before you can finally find a way that Shelby comes out on top.

You know...you could've just said that Shelby is the best high school in the history of the world that starts with the letter S and is from Cumberland County, and we would've gotten from Point A to Point B a whole lot quicker.

All this doesn't even come close to Jerry Winterton of Cary High school alone:

621-16 with 97.5 winning percentage
28 conference championships
19 state titles- 8 duals championships, 11 state team championships
42 state individual state champions
138 consecutive winning streak

One coach at one school. Beat that. Unbelievable record.

Agreed but think we looking more at football.

We have confirmed we convincingly ended this same discussion last Dec-Jan. Therefore, prepare to be carpet bombed with some interesting reading for the holiday weekend from our archives. And trust us, btango, you did go away with your tail between your legs after this barrage of factual, undeniable evidence. We don't try to bully anyone. At the end, there was no response.

And we have another suggestion for the Richmond faithful. While the teams playing Friday in the third round of the playoffs go through their Thursday evening walk thru practices tomorrow night at their stadiums after Turkey Day, why don't all you guys go down to your stadium, turn the lights on, read all your stadium signs again, and feel the "magic".

"I have a lot of respect for Shelby. Think a lot of Chris Norman! Have a huge amount of respect for the Richmond program a well.

It does not matter if Richmond is the only school in the county, they have 2,000 students in four grades. That is not a huge school. It would not surprise me if they ended up in small 4A in the near future. Two schools would not work in that county as about 75% of the population is located in one quarter

I understand and support the classification system and the reasoning for it. I do not think it would be fair for Richmond to play Shelby on a regular basis nor probably a one off just as it was proven playing Byrnes (in a scrimmage) was not fair to Shelby.

The only reason I bring up that Richmond would roll Shelby is due to your continued braggadocious stance on the strength of Shelby's football significance. Should Richmond County be penalized for consolidating to one school? When people talk about the best programs in NC, Richmond is normally at the top of most people's list not Shelby. Granted Shelby is a top program but not an top overall team. That is a fact also 98.

Forget about respecting your opinions btango. That just went out the window with your last post. Kinda curious to know what you came back and edited out.

Let's try this another way and see how you wiggle out of this one.

So you feel RC is the top overall "team" due to its historical performance and its top level 4AA classification? Shelby's historical record is better and more consistent, especially in titles and title game appearances, but we're only 2A, so our case is not as strong, you say. And RC would roll Shelby. And it would not be "fair" for RC to play Shelby on a regular basis. And, unfortunately we don't have an example to prove if that is true or not……….but we do.

In 1997, 4A-all in(before split classification) defending 1996 (and 1994) State Champion Crest High School entered the season ranked nationally and ranked #1 in North Carolina. The little ole 2A Shelby Golden Lions went over to Crest's field in the second game of the year and won, convincingly, 18-7. With RC winning the same 4A Title in '97 and '98, let's see how Shelby fared against Crest for the ten year period 1989 thru 1998.

1989 Shelby 26-20

1990 Shelby 21-3

1991 Shelby 13-7

1992 Shelby 35-14

1993 Shelby 24-17

1994 Crest 16-3

1995 Shelby 44-21

1996 Crest 14-7

1997 Shelby 18-7

1998 Crest 14-7

Your position does not hold up btango. You insist on penalizing Shelby in this debate because we are 2A and the top program in your opinion has to be 4AA, even when we have proven we can beat them at their best. Start wiggling. Funny thing is, this debate was never about who would win if they played next week. It is who has the state's most successful, sustained, winning "program". Now add to Shelby's case "proven winners against all classifications, including the state's top level 4AA teams, while playing up two classifications".

Not sure who all you talk NC football with, but Shelby IS always on the list of most truly knowledgeable NC high school football fans. Perhaps your fondness toward 4A superiority limits your circles. And by the way, the Golden Lions held their own against Byrnes and Mr. Lattimore in their scrimmage. You must have missed that one, also.

Finally, braggadocious ?! For our stance on the strength of Shelby's football significance. We never start these "whose #1" threads. We respond and we state facts, not opinions, in the face of uninformed zealous homers that can't accept correction. You are now one of them. We liked it better years ago, when there was no "ncpreps.rivals" and Shelby's dominance spoke for itself statewide. We stand up for The True Dynasty, and we always will. If you don't like hearing from us, accept the facts and don't bring it up again.

braggadocious

adj

overly proud, bragging in excess

btango, have you been to a game at RC lately? Unlimited gaudy home stadium signs touting themselves, even on the visitor's bleachers. Think about it."

Interesting thread but if you're gonna post all time records it should at least be up to date...lol...(the info is years behind)

For instance, Reidsville's all time record now is 697 wins 310 losses and 38 ties.......

Shelby I know is over 700 wins...

If you know your school's record......post it up...............

Scotswin, isn't the coach at Shelby Crest Mark Barns who was an assistant at Richmond when his brother was head coach, He then became head Coach at Scotland and was run off for not winning the big games. This is what the Scotland fans have been wanting us to do to Coach Hoggard. We realize that some years you have more talent than in other years. We don't plan in running him off anytime soon. A little hope for those of you that want to run him off. He should be nearing retirement age.
