I have no idea how many minority faculty members are employed by Davidson County Schools. But consider the demographics.
When you remove the populations of Thomasville and Lexington, there are about 7,000 black citizens in the roughly 119,000 remaining citizens in the county....less than six percent. Then look at the graduation photos of any county school at the handful of black students.
My guess is that those facts play heavily into the situation being what it is. Not defending it, but trying to understand it.
For comparison, Thomasville is about 20% black and Lexington is 28%.
Compare the percentage of elected officials among the two major cities and the county. In the cities, the number reflects or exceeds the ratio in the population. In Davidson County, no black elected official ever.
The two major cities are diverse, the county overall definitely isn’t.
