Why the lack of minority coaches at ALL COUNTY SCHOOLS? I been to lil league, middle and school games around the county. Pretty much little to zero minorities on staff. I've heard the stigma of Davidson county being a good ole boys network but watching alot of football there change is desperately needed at 95% of county schools on the football field.

Ok here are some questions

1. has any minority coaches applied to these schools
2. are there any minorities that teach or work in any of these buildings that might be willing to coach
3. are there any minority coaches interested in working at any of the Davidson county schools.

Now if all of these questions can be answered with a resounding yes then I will agree the county needs to step it up. If the answer is no well then you get what you get

I have no idea how many minority faculty members are employed by Davidson County Schools. But consider the demographics.
When you remove the populations of Thomasville and Lexington, there are about 7,000 black citizens in the roughly 119,000 remaining citizens in the county....less than six percent. Then look at the graduation photos of any county school at the handful of black students.
My guess is that those facts play heavily into the situation being what it is. Not defending it, but trying to understand it.
For comparison, Thomasville is about 20% black and Lexington is 28%.
Compare the percentage of elected officials among the two major cities and the county. In the cities, the number reflects or exceeds the ratio in the population. In Davidson County, no black elected official ever.
The two major cities are diverse, the county overall definitely isn’t.

There are only 10 African American licensed school personnel in the entire DC School system out of approximately 1,140 licensed employees. Pathetic and sad!

Minorities are not going into the teaching profession. Tough to call out a district if there are no minorities to hire
I understand but it isn’t a problem in Forsyth and Guilford Counties when viewed as a percentage of population. Is it pay, incentives/supplements? I don’t have the answer and I don’t necessarily blame the school system but it is sad when there is less than 1% of licensed personnel that comprise 6% of the non Lexington/Thomasville population.

That's a great question and I have no idea why there is not any as head coach. I tried thinking of any that I can remember and Ledford back in early 90's with Charles Cole as head coach is only one i can come up with. Im not sure of the applicants each time a position opens up, but on the outside looking in it does seem strange no black head coaches.

I dont know much about Davidson Co except the bbq is ok and Gerald Hege is an idiot, but High School sports are more political than many realize. A lot of time it isnt what you know or how good you are, but simply who you know.

Up here in Rockingham County, I can name at least 1 coach from every school that is there not because of coaching ability, but because they are buddies with someone that helps them keep a job.

I don't know I do know that Forsyth County does have a much better supplement as far as coaching goes. And I would bet that many Minorities as whites cross that county line for more $$$$$

Sammyk, I also think the teaching supplement is significant also, even though WSFCS are lagging behind the other large systems.

All before me have done a good
Job summarizing the reasons for lack of minorities in athletics. That reflects the demographic population within the communities. Kind of like asking why there aren’t more “white” coaches in inner city Baltimore or Queens.

Just don't have many opportunities for HC or assistants due to lack of turnover on staffs. Most of the people DCS lose are retirees. The football staffs are filled with long tenured HC's, OC's and DC's. And when a position opens, often there is a long tenured OC/DC that can assume the job that is more than capable.

As for Thomasville, the teaching staff is about 50% white compared to the school being 50% African-American or more. THS football staff is 50/50. Not sure about Lexingtons situation. So the question is, why do so many non-minorities teach/coach in TCS and LCS compared to minorities not teaching/coaching in DCS?

Think of Gereld Hege being re-elected two or three times and there's your answer.

I believe it goes both ways. Minorities are not really applying and the county schools also are not going to go out of their way to find minority coaches.
You have larger school systems surrounding the county with better supplements and more diversity. The county schools still have the good ole boy mentality.
I don’t foresee someone non-white applying for a South Davidson position, just like I don’t see South being overly welcome to hiring someone non-white.

Counties like Davidson and Randolph are good ole boy counties. Clan Territory. Hard press to get a minority coach that knows anything about those counties to coach there.

I know 4 minority coached apply in both counties. NONE got hired. Everything you said is 1000% on point. Minorities just aren't being hired in these 2 counties

Also you could say the reverse in say Forsyth County. Tabor, Parkland, Glenn North Forsyth, Atkins, Prep, Carver, Walkertown all have predominantly black coaching staffs in a majority white county.

At Carver, Parkland, N Forsyth, Prep, Tabor and Glenn the majority of the population are not Caucasian.
You can’t compare the demographics of the Davidson County School System, to WSFCS. WSFCS has a much more diverse population in their school system.

Agreed just as you can say the populations of the Davidson county and Randolph county schools are not just more white than black but vastly white . I am all about diversity I think that can be proven with little effort but sometimes coaching staffs mimic school populations. Is that right or wrong? Not for me to decide but it is what happens

Diversity is such a great transition through America. I just hate seeing certain areas still apply the good ole boys network. It's almost 2020 not 1940. These rural areas either need NEW, transparent leadership or need to get with modern times.
