Serious issue. At the East Gaston @ Chase game last night, one of the East Gaston Cheerleader’s had a serious medical emergency. Trainers from both sides stepped in and eventually 2 paramedics got to the scene too. Here is my issue/questions, apparently there was no ambulance at the game (at least none that I could see). It seemed like it took 30 minutes for an ambulance to get to Chase High School to transport the young lady to the hospital. I guess I thought an ambulance had to be on scene at HS football games in NC, I believe in Gaston County they are required.

Cleveland County I think it’s required but other Counties do different things I guess and Rutherford is a special place

No we cannot play without a ambulance at the feild. I know where all the ambulance sit at east and RS and I think the ambulance normally sit on the visitors side near the feild house. That’s a weird thing about the ambulance. We’ve had kids have to leave and can’t play until the next one arrives

In Davidson County, we don’t have the rescue squads at all the games, but we do have Novant Health personnel at each practice and game. Most games have a doctor walking the sidelines as well.

Crest always has an ambulance and I know for several years there was a doctor at the Crest games, and a doctor at the Shelby games...both on the side lines.

Usually they wait on a different ambulance to transport so they still have 1 at the game. I have seen that done before.

At Lejeune one year, it was COLD...Frost on the ground during the game. The Hospital is right next to the High School so no ambulance at the game. A lejeune kid was down hard. Layed on the ground on the field a good half hour before an ambulance showed up. SWO had a doctor who attended all our games. He and all the trainers from both sides had to wrap him in blankets before they could take him off once the ambulance got there, not good.

Always seen one at games at Rutherford County. Can't ever think of a time that I haven't seen one.

The two paramedics were sitting in a gray van near the field house. I didn't get close enough to see if it was actually an ambulance (but it just looked like a basic van, not an ambulance). They walked from the van to the cheerleader who was laying on the track. She was covered with blankets and was not moved until the ambulance got to the scene.

NCHSAA states the all schools affiliated with NCHSAA must have a responder with radio communications to the 911 center present at football games.

Catawba County Schools & Hickory City Schools require each school to reach out to their local Rescue Squads and have them present at all football games. All games in these 2 school systems get an ambulance for stand by. If they are required to enter the field of play for an injury and it requires transportation to a local hospital then a second unit is called in for the transport. This is done so the play of the game can continue on with their being no lapse of coverage for other players.

Newton Conover City schools doesn't have a Rescue Squad and allows the Fire Dept. to stand by. They have the means of getting the player off the field in a timely manner and call for another unit for transport.

Lincoln county has the County EMS units stand by for all Football Games. They only have 4 high schools, so its not that hard to get those covered by their EMS system.

It's my opinion that Ambulance's are needed at all football games for the safety of all players and spectator's. You never know where the 2nd unit is coming from and how long it will take to get to the game. If one is there it speeds up the process for all involved.
