Guys, it hard to say this but I do not see a season in February. The only way we have a season is if the political leadership changes.

Look at the last three months, covid is still here and is not going away. Instead of us doing like the other states around us and just learn to live with it the leadership in NC would rather have us hide in fear.

I am beginning to doubt we have a new season next August as well.

Sorry to be negative but this is just what has been on my mind.

I agree 81. I have zero confidence in having a season. NC is just not willing to open up fully with that level of risk. Things will not change between now and then. Our levels have been basically the same the entire time. We will not play until a vaccine is released. Fall 2021 before you see NC Public schools playing football.

Football will play if Cooper isn't re-elected.
[/QUOTE]

I hate to say it but barring a massive scandal breaking on his part, he will win

Even if Cooper wins, they will no longer need to use the virus for political gain. Funny how the numbers spike prior to the election but Comrade Cooper does not restrict us like before in fear of losing votes. Do not trust anything the media is saying or the the virus numbers until after the election.

If the numbers get worse in November, December and January, will you agree that it’s not because of politics?

No. We could be playing right now. Tennessee, Georgia, And South Carolina are all playing football right now. What do they all have in common? A republican governor. This is totally political has been from the start. Cooper is playing to his base. The numbers that you need to be concerned about are the hospitalization numbers and the death rate. Infections may go up but deaths are going down.

Over the seven months since the first death, NC has averaged 19.3 deaths per day. Health professionals look at 14 day segments. In the past 14 days, we’ve averaged 25.7 deaths per day. Not sure how that is an improvement.
It stands to reason that the next few months, with more of us indoors and flu season, the numbers will likely go up. I hope not.
Looking forward to seeing some football in the spring.

If you go by er and icu deaths the numbers are going down. It’s amazing people can support a governor who keeps us closed while everyone else is open with similar numbers. Tell me how N.C. handling this has benefited us in number of infections and deaths? Our numbers are worse than tn and sc. We have more Covid deaths than tn and sc. Why do people think this strategy by cooper is helping us?

North Carolina has significantly more population (10.5 million) than South Carolina (5 million) or Tennessee (6.89 million). In deaths per million of population, both states have a much higher rate of death per million than NC.
NC 389
TN 442
SC 759
At least in those three states, being more open doesn’t mean less deadly.

the states in above article 1-10 have lower death rates than N.C. Also, with our restrictions we should have fewer deaths than tn, sc, or Virginia. Pennsylvania has more Covid restrictions than we do and they have double the deaths. They have 12 million people. You can’t regulate a virus no matter how much we’d all like to

North and South Dakota have the highest death rates per capita of all states. I agree that simply regulating can’t guarantee less cases or deaths. The populace has to be willing to take the steps that will help reduce the cases/hospitalizations/deaths.
I can only speak for myself. But what I’ve had to do hasn’t been much of a sacrifice. I realize that people with school aged kids have a much tougher time. And for those who have lost their jobs, the sacrifice is much greater. I still believe that the quickest way to revive the economy is to stop acting like it’s a hoax or a political stunt. The three W’s are easy.

People that work have made a huge sacrifice. California has the most restrictions and I promise they’re following restrictions 17k dead. South Dakota 366 dead. New York 33k dead North Dakota 887. I know fewer people blah blah blah. I’d take my chances in South Dakota rather than California. My point is restrictions in populous places haven’t worked. If you live in the sticks you’ve got a better chance of not getting the virus. This is a virus it’ll have to run it’s course. You wearing a mask, staying home, canceling football, school, and shutting down restaurants isn’t going to keep it from spreading. It’d be nice if we were all government workers and received a check no matter what. Then we could all vote democrat so we could all stay home and draw a check. The sad fact is the majority of people advocating these measures are like you little affected while the rest of us struggle to pay mortgages and keep business doors open.

I’m not for charter schools, however, I am totally against comrade Cooper regulating everything to death. Why can’t democrats represent the poor working man like they use to? The bottom line is charters will continue no matter whose governor.

If you love your local schools and football programs so much you won't support a person that wants to absolutely destroy public schools. Forest and Robinson are dangers to education.

If we’re being honest, charter schools offer so much more academically than public schools. I hate to say that, but anyone who knows the education system knows that. I don’t think Dan Forrest is thinking “oh charter schools, they kill public schools athletically & it’s unfair what NCHSAA does”. He’s thinking about the educational advantages that come with charter schools.

And if the the seriousness fades away and life starts to goes back to normal, will you still be in the state of denial that mask and shutdowns are the only reason why? I understand it will not disappear but understanding there is a new normal that we have to live with has to start sometime. Both parties have kids getting damaged by this, so I predict life starts back to normal 11/4. One party will slowly open up to hide the fact it was magnified for political gain and the other will open full time and protect the vulnerable. PLAY BALL!!!!

I don’t think cooper will open things back up. I’m ashamed to say I voted for him. I won’t make that mistake this time. Charters are, and I know I’ll be slammed for this, but they help the rich kid get a better education. They’re racially and socially discriminatory. The reason I’m upset with cooper is the mandatory regulations. The democrats left the grassroots voters of N.C. for left wing socialist agendas. Those agendas do not benefit the working person.

Do you have data to back that statement up?

Forest is thinking about the dollars charters generate and the money they provide to campaigns like his.

I get people's frustrations with Cooper. But at the end of the day I just can't support someone that is pretty much saying we won't have any restrictions oh and btw I will destroy you public schools. I feel the same way about everything you said about charters. You hit the nail on the head.

Do you have data to back your statement up? I work in a public school system but my youngest child now goes to a charter school. The advantages that he gets compared to my other child that didn’t go to a charter school are night & day.
Have I been questioned and I’m sure criticized by people for working in a public school system and sending my child to another one? Absolutely, but I don’t care.

What advantages does he have? Why do you think he has those advantages?

Next question, what part of the state do you live in?

If you were a poor family you couldn’t afford get them to the charter school or they wouldn’t qualify academically, unless he or she was a great athlete.

Them athletes are good at the lottery.
JS

Especially those basketball and soccer players. Football players getting pretty good too.

With that said, the system is doing nothing but reintroducing segregation to schools. There are some great charter schools but there are also so bad ones with profits and segregation the only goal. Charter schools have advantages because they are held to a different standard than our traditional public schools. They play by a different set of rules and have resources public schools don't. The NCGA wants public schools to fail. They want to privatize the whole system.

Look where charter schools are built. How many charter schools or private schools are in Wilkes, Surry, Alleghany, or Yadkin County? What about northern Iredell? What about southern Iredell, Mecklenburg, Gaston, and Union Counties?

See a trend?

When the NCGA passed a bill allowing municipalities to form charters, starting with Matthews, Cornelius, and Huntersville, do you think it was the low income individuals that go to Hough, Hopewell, North Mecklenburg, or Matthews that went to their legislatures and advocated for it?

It's not about school choice. By all means send your students where you want, but until the state makes the system fair, the charter school argument is a moot point. Until charter schools are held to the same standards. Until their teachers require the same certifications a teacher at Murphy High does. Until corporations that help build charters aren't allowed to have a % of the enrollment for their employees. Until NCGA members stop taking money from for profit out of state charter entities such as Charter Schools USA. Until charter schools aren't allowed to kick a student out for grades or behavior. Until charter schools magically stop getting top athletes through a "random lottery." Until charter schools stop being a means for segregation in metropolitan and areas with a great number of haves or have nots. Until money is stopped being stripped from public schools because "they're failing" with no intention or plan to help these schools. Until public schools aren't graded through the terrible NC report card system. Until the NCGA stops ignoring the Leandro ruling. Until public schools aren't set up to fail and are given the same advantages and glory charter schools are by Phil Berger and his cronies in Raleigh, the charter school argument is a moot point.
