It’s true, I read it on Cherokee One feathers article where he posted the budget meeting for Cherokee $100,000 for new bleachers in visitors side
Item #17: A contribution in the amount of $100,000 is authorized for Graham County Schools for improvements to Robbinsville High School’s Big Oak Stadium as follows: $70,000 for aluminum grandstands with handicapped access on visitor’s side; $20,000 for a new public address system; and $10,000 for a concrete pad above grandstands for handicapped accessible walkway – PASSED (vote of 55-45)

Enjoyed watching Swain practice on Saturday. Looking good up front. Probably the largest o line and d lines we have had in years. Defense looked really good as well. Linebackers really stood out to me. Both are 6-2 and like 220 and 190lbs. Both can cover sideline to sideline. Langston is a hell of a wrestler (state runner up) and will hit anyone. Allen is the same type of football player. So they will fly around and hit. I won’t be surprised if they lay the wood to some running backs this season. Running game gives me that old school feel of ground and pound. Probably because they we have backs that hit those holes hard and quick. I think we are going to be that team that is at least eight yards and a cloud of dust. Swain has some two a days next week then scrimmage Mountain Heritage and Pisgah at Pisgah on Friday.

I am so sorry I didn’t know we had to ask Cherokee for money. I forgot OUR Native kids do not deserve the same things kids in Cherokee get. I forgot our Cherokee kids must be a different tribe since any money not going to the kids on the Qualla Boundary is a waste. I agree R’ville does not always acknowledge how important the tribe is down here but it doesn’t mean it’s not appreciated. We are one of the poorest counties and yet our football program remains relevant and that’s because of the cohesion both whites and natives. It’s not always pretty but you’ll find some the staunchest BlackKnight supporters are from the tribe. But I guess y’all forget that we have Snowbird, a tribal community with tribal members. I get it! 100,000 is a lot of money but how much money is wasted all the time up there. Y’all tore down a high school that is probably in better condition than our facilities and your new school is about to get some renovations to it. I am sorry that the only good our community is used for is the Cherokee speakers. We are all part of the EBCI and that means that it’s not just Cherokee High School.
I ain’t got problem with them helping the enrolled members down there . New bleachers at a football stadium which are gonna b on the away side are suppose benefit them tho ?
Ain’t nobody said we shouldn’t help the enrolled kids in snowbird which I don’t have problem with one bit . But they should’ve thought a little more about and done the same for swain and Jackson county they got enrolled members to .
Someone from the school just told me that the renovations were all paid by capital improvement funds from the lottery. All the bleachers, fencing,concessions,etc were paid by the lottery.
However, the tribe is supposed to give Robbinsville High School funds for all new lights and a new sound system.
New field is already fixed..New wider sidelines,new fences,new bleachers,new concessions,etc.
So the tribe is getting us light bulbs and speakers.
I cant lie about it. The speakers is whats got me most excited. Our system is bad now.
To the idiot that said Robbinsville has the worst field in the SMC, you are making yourselve look dumb. Robbinsville field might be the best grass field in the SMC. The stadium is old but the field is very nice.

I said it was the worst, and I wasn't lying. It is uneven and messed up more than a cow pasture after hurricane Katrina. But if you guys did renovations to the field then i take it all back. But props on making the visitors sideline bigger. Field needs leveled though.
