Rocky mount vs South Point 3A state championship

GDG....you will be missed. I can't believe you will pass up the opportunity to be amongst champions. You will see 4-5k strong strut into Kenan and hear many WHHHOOOOOOOOs from our side during the game. Our opponent, Rocky King, will run their lifetime record to 0-348 vs The Man. I saw where they haven't seen triple option in a few years. SMDH...my god. The whooping is coming.

I've seen you guys three times. I have to spread the love of GDG. In Winston I can see three champions. Add the three of Shelby, Crest, and South Point and I may get to have seen six champs in one season. Never seen more than four in a season. Never seen a 1A or 1AA championship game so this will be a first for me.

Watching this team grow has been amazing. After the WC game this year, I talked to a friend who asked me if SP had a chance at winning it all this year. Hate to admit it, but I said, "this is just not the year". Believe that the Raiders will make me happily eat those words. Other teams may put 11 guys in the huddle who could individually take the 11 guys in our huddle, but our 11 and coaching staff working together are usually just too much to beat. RM mentioned the determination of the OLine. To me it is the cohesiveness and teamwork of the D. Put those together with the great heart that SeaDog talks about and you have the recipe for a Championship. Great day to be a Raider!

Just like my college alma mater, "For the strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack!" Go Big Red!

73, let's keep this on the Raiders. Some of us may be Heels fans or, god forsake, dookies. But we are all Raiders! Go Big Red!

This was intended to be all Raiders. It is from Rudyard Kipling in a poem called Law of the Jungle. I am sorry your mind is so baby blue that you can not see that this phrase is exactly what the Raiders epitomize this year. Go Raiders!

Chachi, I will be there. Want to meet before the game or at half-time?

Car is packed, Raider flags hung in the car windows, lucky hat that I wore in 2003 and 2009 out and cleaned, Everything is in place for tomorrow. ML, staff, and team have put in the time, effort, and passion to earn the opportunity to play this special game. My vision is that 24 hours from now the Raiders will be jumping for joy and hugging each other in the stands as the realization hits that the Raiders have won another State Championship.

Simmons rates SP as a 1 point underdog. Love, it. Crest, Shelby are huge favorites.

I was playing with the numbers from three of the prediction sites yesterday - yes, RT, I have too much time on my hands - and found overall that most of them had underestimated the score differential for SP. Overall, Simmons underestimated by about 2 points per game (I only had the numbers from week 4 through week 16); CalPreps by about 4 points per game (weeks 5-16); and Carolina Varsity by nearly 10 (16 games). For Rocky Mount, Carolina Varsity underestimated by 1.5 points per game; Simmons overestimated by about 2.5-3 points per game; and CalPreps was spot on. CalPreps has SP 28-26. I am going with SP 30-26.

All year long, I felt that EA was the team to come out of the East. Never really studied them but just based on the games they played. After doing some research, EA would have been the type of team that SP would have easily beaten. Lamot is great, but he was a one man team. Stop him and you stop their O. SP doesn't struggle when they only have one guy to stop. Defensively they were not very good against the run. Appears that the East clearly got their best team to Kenan and that is RM. Great game tomorrow.

Sasha, RT...we got this like a Cleveland County resident at a candy store.

If we do....will you put out? You will know me because I will be the one who has rose petals thrown at his feet and in front of his walkway. I will also be wearing a coat made of a Golden Lion. There will be a distant choir accompaniment singing as I walk near. That is how you will know me.

If we meet, and you don't have me a sandwich and cola prepared, I will be upset. On the other hand...my poison taster has the day off today, so maybe our meeting will have to be delayed.

The next state championship game I attend, I will expect a silver platter with 27 sandwiches stacked neatly in a pyramid from you.

If you have not read the loose teeth and cotton mill story in the Gazette, then you should. Great article in talking about the history of SP's conversion to the Redbone. ML says that we never get any big kids for the O line. Truth is that when they do show up he sends them over to the D staff. ML likes his Olinemen at 190-210 lbs, quick, strong, and hardnosed. it has been a great recipe for success.

Here we go Raiders, here we go!
Here we go Raiders, here we go!
HERE WE GO RAIDERS, HERE WE GO!

Proud of this team, and proud to be a Red Raider. Bring it back home to Belmont where it belongs!

Only in your dreams. As for your sandwich, once you arrive, I will personally prepare it before your eyes, just like they do in a Japanese restaurant.

Can anyone provide some info on Rocky Mount def. cord.? Did he attend Scotland High and NC State?

dang...I thought SP had this
We had them 3rd and 17 deep in RM territory on their last possession of regulation and let the QB get the first down. The final straw was that facemask on 4th and long deep in SP territory that gave them the opportunity for the tying TD. We have our chance to win and just came up short, forcing OT. Disappointed but I know the guys on the team are too.

Congrats to Rocky Mount. They hung around and got it done. I know #44 for RM is a D1 prospect, and he made a great play late that encapsulated the win for RM....but #44 for SP played about as good as any defensive effort we've ever had. He stood out to me as the best player on the field.

Congrats to Rocky Mount. I was impressed with their coaching and lack of penalties. Totally not what I expected from them. They deserve the win. They were smart to eat clock and keep our offense off the field.

All that said. My god the special teams. That and our one corner who they threw about 10 for 10 completes on hurt really bad. I agree with the other sp poster about Hall. Kid played out of his mind. I've said he was the best player on the defense the last 2 years so I'm not surprised he was in this game though. I'd take him over anybody on that field. Thought King looked good, and played smart. I wish we would have thrown the ball to loosen up the D a little bit. We have some 1 on 1 chances out on the outside that are begging to be exploited. Thought our OL and DL played their butts off. #35 and p davis were strong and made plays in the backfield which we needed vs. this type offense. #40 had a real good game too. He had to be the second leading tackler behind Hall. Thought it was his best game of the year. SP will be back. Not sure in what capacity in the coming years. I thought this was our last strong group of seniors for a while. you never know in Belmont though.

Yeah. I think that #44 played really well at the point of attack. Saw him blow up numerous blockers and half the time still make the tackle. He will missed on the defensive side of things going forward. Man would he have made a h#ll of a fullback!!! How'd the staff miss that? I'd want to play that dude both ways.

I think having him at LB was the best for SP while he was there. The ROI with him at LB is far greater than with him at FB....... hard to argue with the numbers #32 was putting up as well. #44 wouldn't have been leaps and bounds better than him but he was irreplaceable at LB.
