I don't know anything about them. Just think this is our year. Been saying since August Lets Go Big Red!!!!

Both teams with 13-2 records. SP seeded #2 and Rocky Mount #3. On the surface the teams look to have similar paths. Oh yes, they are the Gryphons whatever that is.

One more obstacle in the way for SP. Rocky Mount must be solid to beat EA team that everyone was hyping up. Take care of business Raiders.

Rocky Mount throws some but is predominantly a running team. 1400 yards passing and about 4000 yds rushing. QB hit better than 50% of his passes but averages 5+ completions per game. They run from the Charlotte Catholic offense and the FB has about 1500 yards, the WB's have 1200 and 800.
All of these kids look good running the ball. 1200 yd WB is short, stout, and quick. QB is not a runner. He has about 20 yards all year. Much of the passing that I saw he had moved our from under center, but also passes from standard set. They have a handful of big kids but not as big as WR. Appears closer to KM. I like SP's chances if we play our game. Haven't seen any details yet on the game last night but expected to see EA.

From reading the Rocky Mount paper it seems that RM jumped on EA early and ran out to a 28-0 lead at half. The Lamot kid from EA is a special athlete but it appears that RM did a good job of containing him. Lamot threw 3 interceptions, two were pick 6 that led to 14 of RM's 42 points.

There is a first time for everything. Here it is.

Take care of your business Raiders. Don't let up. Proud of your young men, for bouncing back and never quitting. You have a good football team. Get it Done!...

This brought me to tears. Nah. Had it not been for Crest last year we may be the defending champs this year.
Go Big Red and gulp, go Chargers! If you can't be the best at least know that you were eliminated by the best. No excuses.

This will be a dog fight against a jet turner clover style team. We will have to be solid again on defense and stay at home on the outsides. That said I like our chances.

Not surprised at Rulz comment, this is a love hate relationship. Crest has had a special two season and seem to be peaking at the right time. As for SP, not a bad year if all of your losses are to other state champions.

South Granville is the only opponent they faced this season that runs the flexbone offense that I have been able to find. Not sure how relevant that is considering SG lost 45-0 and went 4-7 for the year.

SP will have to play disciplined run defense as RM can hit you from all three RB slots. Deception is the key. Expect the D staff to be ready but this will be a challenge. Last two trips to Chapel Hill ended happy. Hope this one is the same.

Who will have the bigger game?

A. #32
B.#7
C. Both have multiple TDs
D. Both just shut down!

From looking at the one game on youtube...so not very thoroughly...I have a prediction:
Rocky Mount may be a whole lot better than they look, but that is the laziest bunch of rascals I've ever seen on tape. Couple good looking players, but if they aren't ready for a test upfront - and they don't look to be- then I see it going the way of my prediction pretty easily. My last 3 predictions for SP games have been eerily close to actual scores / point differentials...and I do not think I'm wrong here either. After 107 years as a HC between baseball and football, ML will finally get a ring as leader.
SP 38
Rocky Mount 21

I have watched through the first half on the RM/Middle Creek game on YouTube. Middle Creek beat RM by 2 points. Middle Creek went 14-0 before losing to Page in last weeks's 4A Eastern finals. That puts some perspective on the game on YouTube. Personally, I thought both teams looked sloppy at times, but it was the first game of the year. RM has good running backs and several defensive players who were impressive. 9,56 and 44 were in the backfield all night long. Will watch the 2nd half tonight, but so far I see a real competitive opponent for Friday night.

I am not Jimmy and Joes girl, but I watched a couple of minutes of that game as well. #77 is a big guy. He may be the 300-pounder I read about. If not, I don't want to see him.

I saw a clip from their game with Southern Nash when #9 hit the ball carrier so hard, the ball came loose like an in-flield pop-up- nasty hit. Does #9 play both sides of the ball? If so, maybe our offense can wear them down.

I believe Middle Creek was their 2nd game of the year. First game was a 45-0 rout of South Granville which runs the flexbone. Have you seen any film of their game with Rose - a 61-21 loss in week 5?

Sasha, as usual you are right that it was the 2nd game of the year. #9 plays some offense but I did not see any starter who was playing both sides of the ball. There two tackles are 300 and 325 lbs. Will need to beat them with speed.

Toby against a 300 pounder? I'll take Toby every time!

This is gonna be a tough one, no doubt. Make no mistake, our Red Raiders must grind it out one more time! One more time to become Belmont legends like those before them. Rocky Mount needs to find out what most of the State already knows. We come to play and we come to win. Embrace the exhaustion, embrace the violence, embrace the physical pain, embrace the competition, you have come far to make one last statement. We are the MIGHTY RED RAIDERS!!!

Looking at their roster. on the defensive side they also have several guys

I will tell you what made me look at #77 besides his size. On RM's first possession of the game, on one down,he lined up to the right of the QB; the next play he lined up on the left. I don't know if that was a busted pass play they were trying, but RM ended up running to the right and getting nothing.

Sasha,

It's old school, but offenses sometime have strong side and weak side OL. Not saying this happened here, but not unprecedented.

The way South Point has performed in the playoffs I don't even have a concern about them winning. Get the parade and confetti ready. #midgetsrule

The thing was I was expecting the run to the right, not a pass when I saw the OLineman switch.

Gotcha, this is why football is so cool. It's all about strategy, deception, physicality, intelligence and heart. My heaven is two a days until the loser pukes. God made Dick Butkus to introduce himself to Yankees.

Watched the balance of the game against MC and RM is a good team. They do play 44 on offense some but if you look at the stats, he did not have significant carries this year and his main presensce in on D. Noticed big 72 tonight (Fridge Perry, Jr.) Kid comes off the line quick for a big kid. They also brought him in at guard on the Oline when they were inside the 10. They would have the 3 300 lb kids with 44 running and that was a load to handle. Looking forward to Friday night.

300 lbs of skeletal mass can not beat 301 lbs of heart!!! You weigh whatever, and I will smash into the turf whatever you weigh!

We roll in and we roll out wherever we decide. The decision is made!!!

I am worried about Herman. Those big boys from RM might crush him.

Herman epitomizes what Red Rader football is all about. Desire, be it Herman hanging in and being nasty or Toby hanging in and being nasty. Nasty it is!!!

Ho Ho Ho (talking to you no dog in the fight) and WHOOOOOOOO! I am strutting into this message because SP will definitively defeat the Gryphons.

My prediction will be as colorful as the sequined robes I walk around Belmont in; which are not to be confused with the silk robes that *crestrulz and his Charger buddies wear when they work their shifts as F boys at the local huntin' lodge in rural Boiling Springs. SIDENOTE- somebody tell *crest9496 that Q tips are used for sticking in your ears only. I have heard tell of a 5 gallon bucket sitting on his front porch (on the other side of the couch) that is full of brown colored Q tips. I know things get lonely out there from Saturday to Thursday, but you are contributing to the Canton-like smell that boiling springs is known for.

Here is the story. Here are the names. Here is who will stand out in the game for SP and why they HAVE won and will win this game. Buckle your seatbelt because I will not be talking about hype, I will be talking about substance.
Offense: THE OL has won us every game we've won the last 2 years. They're the unsung heroes. They're the talent.
QB will get his yardage no matter how much they try and stop him. What will happen is RM will watch tape and think no way 32 beats them on defense. They are right. It won't be him....it will be that OL beating you every play. So, take away the QB...he'll still have a fine game. But the OL will dominate you.
That is all. THe OL will win this game for SP

Defense: #44 and #23 are studs. Our DL has been legit this year. Between those 6-7 players (DL, 44, 23) we will stop most of their runs. I can see a counter or a slip play working - but having less than fast LB play might actually help against this style of offense we'll face. We don't have to worry about edge CB play as RM will likely not be throwing too much. When they do...it'll be telegraphed. So, 44 will end up with 11 tackles. 23 will end up with 1 pick at least on a pass that is disguised as a punt and SP will roll:
SP 31
RM 13

WHHHHOOOOOOOOOOO

Macho Man, gonna have to miss your teams championship. I've seen enough of them this year to know they come back with the victory. Coondog is not married yet so he will get to go pull them thru for the last time. After that Friday will be spent with the mother-in-law at Steak and Shake in Gastonia. Seadog is making a loooong trip and well Sasha is making cookies Saturday for a 98Champion/Shelby Lion christmas exchange. I will grace the stands at Winston-Salem for one of the 1A games and the other Red Pain team.

I have really enjoyed watching this team come together this year. They have overcome two significant injuries to two 3 year starters (#20 & #70) and continued to just get better. That's what good teams do....move on and make no excuses! Best of luck Friday night!

That's correct. Two significant pieces of this team, and the next man(couple of them) up has come in and done a great job. I foresee state champs. Anxious to see what Rocky Mount brings to the table. I get the feeling they are similar to HH....but with better athletes. I hope the coaching is similar.

Hard to imagine any team down east being able to outscore the Red Raiders. My prediction is a close game at the half. SP continues to grind in the 2nd half and RM has a couple 3 and outs. By then, SP will be up by 2-3 scores and as they say. The Fat Lady will be warming up.

Be sure to tune into the Witherspoon Insurance Pregame show on KTCBroadcasting.com, WLON, WOHS and WCSL Friday from 5:30-7 as we break down the games.
Good Luck Raiders.
