I have been perusing around here for a few weeks looking for info about my alma mater(Princeton) during the playoffs and thought I would drum up some discussion since it looks like they have lost any presence here.
I have very limited knowledge about this current team, but a lot of historical knowledge. It is great so see them having success in their first 2-A year after wondering around in the football wilderness for the better part of 3 decades 1985ish-2009ish.
I have seen the Dawgs play one game this year so take it for what its worth. My take aways:
1. Large/Physical O-line....their running game is slow developing. The RBs kind of hide behind the O-line for a split second as the play develops and then out they pop for a big gain. Never any negative plays.
2. The offense loves to shift 3-4 guys at a time. In the one game I saw....the line will get set in an unbalanced formation....the QB will give hard count.....and 3-4 guys on the line will shift. It drew at least 3 offsides.
3. From what I understand they have 3 good ball players in the backfield. Brooks, Perris, Edens. I think Brooks may be hurt, he has the most yards on the ground this year. They have a limited passing game, but that may have been due to lack of necessity. (I would imagine it will need to come out soon)
4. The D has no "Freaks" just good team D. I would imagine that a spread team with a strong passing attack may give them some trouble just based on not seeing that too often.
5. These dudes are strong. I think a real commitment to the weight room by the coaches, players, and community has really helped Princeton and made up for what they have historically lacked in size/speed.
6. They did put the ball on the ground a good bit the one game I saw.
7. The game I went to did not have the "buzz" I thought it would given the success of the team, but the town of Princeton has historically turned out well for their non-football teams that go deep into the playoffs. I would expect a big crowd.
8. The school installed a new turf/rubber field recently and I would imagine alot of visiting teams have never played on a field like that. I can't speak for playing football on something like that, but it does take a bit of getting used to running/cutting/sliding on a turf/rubber field so I would imagine there is a slight adjustment.
9. The Gaster Family can coach football
I would imagine that it would take a very disciplined D that plays assignment football instead of trying to make a big play to slow down this running attack. That coupled with more ball control issues could lead to Princeton's demise. They can clearly be scored upon.
Whats the scoop on St. Pauls? I saw a bit of a passing attack on the 30 second snippet posted on HighSchoolOT. That could be an issue for the Dawgs.
