I have taken a liking to trying my hands at prelim brackets over the years. I figured I would give it shot seeing WNC FAN put out his 2A West Projections; it gave me some motivation to give it a stab. He's right, there is A LOT of football left and these next few weeks will change a lot of stuff up. Big matchups are still left!!

WNC FAN's projection and mine are a little different...a shift up or down here or there in the seedings. The split conferences are somewhat tricky to navigate. I designated split conference's where if the conference champ is a 2A school they get an Auto 1 Conference Champion designation and if the highest finishing 2A school in those split conferences is not the conference champion I designated them as an Auto 2 berth. I'm unsure if they are supposed to be considered an Auto 2 or an Auto Wildcard...I'm sure someone on here will straighten me out! I'm no bracket wizard...this is just my take and is just for my fun.

I dabbled with this earlier today. One thing that I see is there are 10 football playing 2A conferences in the east. That means spots #1-#10 are reserved for those conference champs seeded by RPI. This includes East Carteret which is the only 2A member of that 1A/2A conference might get seeded as a #1 depending on where they finish. If they are not seeded as a #1, then spots #1-#9 will go to the conference champs. Given that, no way both East Duplin and WRH are seeded that high.

Still, it is fun to look at and given this new seeding process and no more subdividing will make for a lot of interesting matchups throughout the playoffs.

I see what you are saying...and this is the tricky part of the split conferences I was talking about...

examples:

Cummings (RPI 10th) is in a 1A/2A conference...but I don't have them finishing as the conference champ even though they will be the top 2A school in that conference. So I didn't give them an Auto 1 CC designation, I gave them an Auto 2 designation.

East Carteret - Auto 2 (RPI 36th)

Northeastern in a split conference but is conference champion. Auto 1 CC (RPI 1st)

JF Webb top 2A in split but not the CC - Auto 2 (RPI 35th)

Roanoke Rapids top 2A in split but not the CC - Auto 2 (RPI 7th)

Whiteville in a split conference but is CC - Auto 1 CC (RPI 4th)

That was just my interpretation of it...I don't see the top 2A team being a 3rd or 4th place team in a split conference justifying being given the Auto 1 CC designation.

For the East I have 6 CC and 9 Auto 2s with 17 Wildcards
For the West I have 8 CC and 7 Auto 2s with 17 Wildcards

As far as East Duplin and WRH...I have East Duplin winning the conference and WRH being the highest ranked Auto 2. Given them the #3 and #7 respectfully.

Gotcha- I think the split conferences throw everything for a loop (always has).

I get a kick out of posters from certain schools going bat poop crazy over what Joe Schmos come up with doing these brackets. They freak out over being too high, too low or who they might play in second round. And heaven forbid a team who traditionally isnt very good being seeded ahead of them regardless of how it happened.

Then when brackets do come out, it gets worse. Just like with the Maxpreps ratings and now the RPI. Everybody gets shafted and always a conspiracy theory with the NCHSAA. Im telling you, people go mad!

Did the NCHSAA put out in any type of wording anything pertaining to trying to avoid conference rematches in the first round?

I do not remember seeing anything but doesnt mean there wasnt.

So your saying there's a chance! They could Cinderella this whole thing!!

The first 5 out I have is:
South Lenoir
Ayden-Grifton
South Granville
Goldsboro
Fairmont

The first 5 out in the West are:
West Stanly
Randleman
Wheatmore
Newton Conover
Bandys
Oh most definitely, they would beat most teams down south. NE will have their hands full with them next year.

Livermush is great. It sparked a debate once at Quantico and a girl from the Bronx even knew about it. I was like how is this possible she knew of the delicacy that is livermush and she replied her husband was from Rutherford.
Anyways, I would prefer my Wolves head to Climax. Thank you.

I have a fond memory of the first time I served my Northern friends in college livermush. They thought it was amazing and after they finished it all I told them what it was made of and watched them squirm!!

Is East Gaston really that much better than Lincolnton

Between being #22 and #27, I would say not. A better overall record changes that. RPI of 0.536 vs 0.498...Lincolnton has had more successful opponents...but their own winning percentage is what is hurting them.

So a question I have is in the split conferences, if you are the top finisher of the say 2A part and get that automatic bid but are not the overall conference champion are you entered into the seeding in tier 1 or 2??

I have seen/heard both answers and was wondering

If Trinity gets in over West Stanly or Randleman, that is a crime against humanity. Randleman should take care of Trinity rather easily though.

Grizz….on split conferences….I read that the qualifying team must be 1st, 2nd or 3rd overall ….AND/OR…..finishes at .500 or higher….to be considered an auto 1 conference champion. Otherwise… that team is put with the…at large qualifiers.
And…..my interpretation is…after the conference champions are seeded….all the rest of the qualifiers……. (conference 2nds….AND …at large)…are seeded by RPI.

On split conferences….There must be at least 2 teams from both classifications in the conference … to qualify for the automatic berth.
East Carteret will not automatically get a berth… they’ll have to earn it.

Thanks Creek, I'll adjust what I have later this morning. Maybe I'll by you a hot dog on Friday night! Hell...maybe I'll sneak in a livermush sandwich for ya.

Very convoluted. I would have rolled with split conference winners receives the automatic bids and the rest go into the at-large pool.

Alright....Creek has set me straight on some of the formatting and qualifications...so I've redone the brackets according to that...and this seems much more right that the last. Even though a 0.500 team from a split conference can qualify as a CC. Maybe for a 2A/3A split since you are playing up...but for a 1A/2A conference it doesn't seem right...anyways...I'll post each side on its own.

I like that potential draw for Providence Grove. Those are two winnable games. They're not beating Shelby though. If they beat the Golden Lions at Shelby, I'll quit posting forever.
F-O-R-E-V-E-R???
That’s a lot of pressure to put on theLions.
Just do like a famous poster from down that way and change user name every couple of years 👍
