Predictions on the Open Enrollment Championship Game

If my memory serves me, last year NHHS had the ball in the waning minutes inside Rose's 10 yard line and threw a pick in or near the end zone. Rose ran it back a ways and ended up scoring the go ahead TD. I think the final was 42 - 35. The Cats D can't possibly play Powell any worse than last year....... I hope. I am going to go with the same score different winner. Cats win.

Wow, this one played out a lot different than I thought! The offense everyone expected didn't show up. I think the CATS squandered a few opportunities that would have definitely made the game more interesting.

Key series in the game was in the 4th quarter when the Cats had the ball 3rd and 1 at the Rose 11 down 7. Two illegal procedure calls ruined that opportunity. From my perspective in the stands it appeared the Cat receivers didn't handle several balls they should have but hey, everything looks catch-able in the stands.

In the first half NHHS double covered Powell and limited his touches. The double coverage opened up the run so the Cats switched to single coverage in the second half and our DB did a nice job in coverage.

Powell probably had 6 balls thrown to him and he may have caught 3 - I can remember 2. They handed him the ball 2 or 3 times as well. He scored once on a hand off and once on a pass.

You have to believe that if Rose has the ball next week in a close game, they will find a way to get him the ball - and good luck to Catholic when he has it in his hands. He is electric. He is not super fancy - breaks some tackles but his 4th gear is outstanding.

I am excited about the NHHS football future. Coach Smith did an awesome job and even the most faithful Wildcat fan can't be upset with the teams progression.

Good luck to the Rampants, represent the East!!!

I wanted to give some credit to TE Walston who converted to QB in the second half due to a hand injury to starting QB Estes. What an awesome job of running the offense, although I have to assume the playbook may have been limited. Walston and Estes came to NHHS as freshman QB's before Walston converted to a receiver in his sophomore year. As far as I can recall, Walston has not played the QB position in at least 2 years. It has been a pleasure watching these two fine young men.

An you can't forget the Coach and the OC for pulling the trigger on the change as the Cats were in this game and had their chances in the second half.
