This made the national news but if you haven't seen it here's a video of two safeties putting what looks like a deliberate hit on the Ref (umpire).

John Jay High School out of San Antonio,Texas, was at Marble Falls High School which is about 85 miles to the north (MapQuest).

I read over it pretty fast but it looked like the players have already been dismissed from the team and the incident is under investigation from the UIL (University Interscholastic League) which I'd think is the Texas version of the NCHSAA. I saw on another site where the Marble Falls Police are investigating, too.

They indicated the players might have believed the official made a bad call and this could have been their idea of retribution. Marble Falls won the game 15-9.

I've left a link. If you open it there is a video and if you scroll down the page there is a second one.

There is no excuse for this type of behavior on or off a football field towards authority. I'd hope this situation would be handled correctly, promptly and with stiff consequences as to ward off future actions by anyone else who thinks they could try the same tactic.

I agree with everyone any and all action should be taken, but has anyone looked into the coaches action or any role in this. Ummm. Kids were wrong, but need more info on the coaches.

Heard last night that an assistant coach is being investigated for alledgedly telling the kids to do what they done?

Regardless, this official could have been seriously injured as both players speared him in the back without him knowing they were coming....Not to mention, the official stated yesterday that Slander and Libel has already happened, so I suspect that he has already got a lawyer......Will be interesting to see if the Assistant Coach had anything to do with this incident?....If so, his coaching days should be over because he sure ain't a role model if he was involved....

As for the 2 players involved, both should never be allowed to play High School Football again IMO....Totally bush league, and no place for that type of garbage in the game or football or any other sport for that matter....

These two guys and their actions, a 3rd walking over to the official after the play, and two previously thrown out for running their mouths. Sounds like a classy bunch.

From what I read on the internet....That is typical for John Jay HS. In fact in that specific game, total of four players had been ejected. I do know in NC, that high school would be disqualified from playoff. I am not sure about Texas. I hope they lay down the hard stuff to those two kids and if the assistant coach is guilty of telling the kids what to do, he should be banned from coaching in any level. It might even mean those two kids being expelled from HS. That is plain WRONG! I umpire a lot in baseball and I know how vulnerable referee and umpires can be at times.
