Pinecrest @ Garner

Garner better be ready Pinecrest run game is tricky and i'm going with Pinecrest 27-24.

I am hoping Pinecrest can pull this one out. I don't think they have ever been to a third round. Tough to call as I haven't seen Garner this year.

Garner has experience at this Level...Pinecrest is due to move on at this level... I'm hoping Pinecrest, but it's close... Pinecrest...34-28...on the limb. Regardless, west wins.

Pinecrest has come a long way, but they have been at this level for a while now. Basically a 3rd or 4th place team in the conference and a 2nd rounder playoff team. Is this the ceiling for them or do they take it up a notch going forward?

To be clear on my post and to save the expense of an irrelevant thread as other teams move on, I will elaborate a little. Pinecrest coming a long ways is now years in the past. I would actually like to see Pinecrest and a couple of other teams step into another tier to represent the conference. The Sandhills conference is a good conference, but it would be nice to see the conference itself get to another level. It’s been the Scotland show and that’s about it as you move past the second round. There are enough teams now to have at least a couple make better runs in the playoffs. Big difference in top 2-3 and bottom 2-3 in the conference. That applies to us as of late and sometimes we knock each other out, but one left going into the third round again.

Coach Metzger may have turned the program around, but Pinecrest has never been hungry enough to win a conference title. They seem complacent enough just to finish third or fourth and back their way into the playoffs. Pinecrest folks think that people at Richmond and Scotland take football wayyyy too seriously. Well, how many state and conference championships has Pinecrest ever won in football??? Zero. Nada. Zilch.

RD...it does seem that way, but there have been investments made towards that program. They have the local radio support and It seems they have a good fan following now. It could be a number of things, but maybe they aren’t getting enough talent out of the hallways? They seem to have solid players, but not many standout players like J. Dickerson. It takes some solid talent at the skill positions and you just don’t hear much noise there.

It would seem the supporters would be looking for the next level and especially the administration as football brings in a lot of revenue compared to other sports. The Basketball and Baseball programs do well. The headwinds aren’t as strong as they used to be, so maybe they will get there in the near future.

How hungry is Pinecrest when it comes to wanting to win conference and state titles??? Not very hungry. And, the Patriots are still waiting for returns on those investments.

RD...this seems to be our thread now. I'm curious as to what you mean by not hungry? To keep it clean with no names, do you think the talent is there and they just aren't motivated enough? You don't hear a lot of big name skill players, so maybe they just haven't had the stars align just right in a given year. I know the QB elected not to play with a BB scholarship and I understand that. If your referring to school support, it would seem they are taking it seriously now.

In reference to people thinking RC/Scotland taking it too seriously, I don't think those communities would have it any other way. Friday night lights is a big deal and one of the few things to do. Moore county is like a mini metro somewhat and there are other things to do on a Friday night along with the fact it is a Golf/Retiree/Military based community now.

Pinecrest is always just content to settling for third or fourth place and just backing their way into the playoffs. And, Pinecrest folks, think folks at Richmond and Scotland take football way too seriously. I'm thinking that a bad night of football in Rockingham or Laurinburg is better than a good night of football in Southern Pines. Richmond and Scotland folks are ready to get after it on Friday nights. And, Richmond and Scotland folks do travel well. Pinecrest folks are more of a fair weather "wine and cheese" crowd.

Coach Metzger has been at Pinecrest for 11 seasons. It's time to kick the competitive level up a few notches and go after a conference title.

I was still looking for an overall talent comparison and thoughts on that. Is PC getting the talent out of the hallways? There is a different "clientele" of people in Moore county for sure. I guess time will tell. I agree it's time.
