Three different projections included for 2A/2AA.

Click the link to see updates after Friday's games:

Projection #1 shows Oak Grove still in, SW Edgecombe AND Smoky Mountain both in 2AA

-Projection #2 shows Oak Grove out, SW Edgecombe in 2AA and Smoky Mountain in 2A

-Projection #3 shows Oak Grove out, Smoky Mountain in 2AA and SW Edgecombe in 2A

...and yea yea, I know the computer will reshuffle all of the teams ranked around 60-70 and make all of us bracketologists look silly, but my South Granville team didn't have a game tonight for me to do stats and write an article for, so I occupied my time after the wife and kids went to bed with scoreboard watching on about 5 websites, catching portions of live stream of multiple games, and of course my best attempt at rebracketologizing

Its usually noon or later before they make up their minds. Lol
Yes, it's usually 1 or 2 before they're finalized but the preliminary brackets will come out usually between 10 or 11, then there's usually at least one mistake they have to correct and change things up because somebody posted the wrong record or a conference tie breaker wasn't reported properly or a team opted out of the playoffs

YES, ABSOLUTELY......the problem is I have NO idea which ones......you could see Lexington AND Oak Grove drop out, and Vance Co. & TW Andrews in, also watching hoping for a Maxpreps Miracle are teams like Newton-Conover, West Iredell, Wilkes Central, and Chase.....a real longshot but maybe with better chances than these are last week's #76 Fairmont, who needs to jump about 10 spots, but they did pick up 2 wins this week....I only hope that all of those teams on the bubble who won last night (Washington First Flight, Carrboro) stay in the field of 64 (or actually the two fields of 32)

Fellow tar heel, thanks for all the great work you are doing re seedings and pairings.

When Reidsville came down to play your team a few years ago, we ate at a bbq place that was really good. Is it still there and what is the name of the restaurant (memory is not quite as sharpe as then.;))

Good luck in playoffs.

I wouldn't bet on that for multiple reasons....and first, I don't know anything about Smoky Mtn, or who DP is (and he may have buddies at the NCHSAA; so do a lot of folks)....and yes, it does look a little sketchy to see a number posted and then see that number decrease.....but anyway:

1: If there was a shady shenanigan to make sure they went to small 2A bracket, they should have gone lower than 838, and they should have had that lower number published on the first run, not on the correction 22 hours later

2. The ADM numbers go through NC DPI before going to the NCHSAA; the numbers are determined by the school attendance bookkeepers under the watchful eye of administrators over the first 10 days of school and again on the 20th day....the office personnel almost always wants that ADM number to increase and not decrease; because in this day of budget cuts, 868 vs. 838 could be the difference in the campus losing a teacher next year....and if they got caught, knowingly letting the higher number ride, hoping to illegitimately gain a teaching position, then some folks would be in trouble for a different reason

3. It's not like they were the only school whose ADM changed between the original post on Wednesday and the revised post on Thursday, there were probably 10 or 12 others who saw a change, some went up; some went down; some by a lot; some by not so many, many of whom are not making the playoffs in football, some others who are, but again the main reason these numbers mean so much to the school, the school system, and NC DPI is not about football playoffs, but how many teaching positions get allotted to a campus (or keep, or lose) for the next school year

4. While it does look a little suspicious in this situation, it is still possible that they really are legitimately correcting an error....We have no idea exactly how, but it could be anything from a simple typo from any of a bunch of people transcribing numbers.... those 30 or so students could have been enrolled at the school last year and left for Blue Ridge Early College (who does play sports, therefore they would count toward BREC's ADM....there are some school systems with an Early College or other Academy that don't have sports and students are technically dually enrolled, and can go play at the traditional school where they would go otherwise)

That was Bob's BBQ right on the Butner/Creedmoor line....sadly, it closed a year or two ago...it was one of my favorite spots to go eat with other teachers on teacher workdays....there is a new place open 1/2 mile away called Carolina BBQ & Chicken, which I've been to twice with groups, food is good, but a bit more pricey than Bob's used to be

So it looks like the MaxPreps rankings had quite a shakeup after last night. Looks like 2A East now looks like
1. Northeastern
2. South Columbus
3. Clinton
4. South Granville
5. Kinston
6. SWO
Or do the records make Clinton and SG switch positions?

Prelim. brackets up....looks like they went closest to my Projection #2 with Oak Grove out, Smoky Mtn small, SW Edgecombe big

Can someone give me a favor..........Can someone please beat them SW Edgecombed folks

Yes lol somehow smoky pulled a fast one and dropped about 36 students off adm # from original # released ..big difference from #9 seed in 2aa vs 5 seed in 2a..

And pisgah may have most difficult road of any #1 ever...potentially south point shelby hibriten back to back to back

Bracket update in small 2A....it was a Maxpreps Miracle for Fairmont to get in....congratulations, now you get to go play Northeastern
I was shocked to see them get in with the update. I was only hoping they got in so Red Springs could possibly sneak in, as they are a much better football team.

Red Springs needed one more spot to open up....had somebody opted out of the playoffs or forfeit a win at last second

Personally, I had written off Fairmont as hopeless at #76 last week....it was actually somebody from Reidsville (may have been you; I don't know) that was corresponding with me that pointed out that possibility

Not me. But I may know that guy.

Didn’t Fairmont beat Red Springs?
Yes they did, but Red Springs is the better team. Sometimes that oblong ball can bounce strange ways on any given Friday.
For reference
Red Springs losses to the top 3 teams in our conference were by 4,3, and 1 point.
Fairmont on the other hand lost to those same teams by 34,40, and 1.

Tar Heel could you explain how Roanoke Rapids is an 8 and East Duplin is a 9 I know absolutely nothing about them other than rankings and records
I'm not Tar Heel but I'm pretty sure that RR got in as the #2 seed from their conference even though they finished 3rd, as the 2nd place team was a 1A school. So they were the lowest seeded #2 and East Duplin was the highest seeded Wild Card since they finished tied for 3rd in their conference.

Actually though, I'm wondering that myself....I was expecting RR to be a wild card and Bunn to be seeded as 3 (the only one in 2AA East) because I don't believe you get to be a 2 unless you actually finish 2nd overall in a split conference, I know RR beat Bunn head to head but was under the impression that there was a three way tie for that spot between RR, Bunn, and Vance Co. and that Bunn won the draw....so either RR won the draw instead of Bunn....OR....when Vance Co. was left out of the playoffs, it went to the head to head matchup between RR & Bunn instead of a three way tie....OR....the higher seeded went by maxpreps rankings in the 3 way tie (RR passed Bunn after beating them).....OR....the state didn't acknowledge the strange situation where Louisburg would not play Vance Co. in a conference game, and the subsequent decision (I thought) for none of the 2A teams to count their game against Louisburg as a conference game....if the state saw RR & Bunn both at 4-3 in league play and Vance at 3-3, they might have just gone by head to head....(I had been under the impression that all three were 3-3; all 1-1 against each other, and that Bunn winning the draw would give them a higher seed).....OR.....there was some other reason I hadn't thought of or some deal made between RR & Bunn....OR I could have been right all along and they made a mistake which never got corrected....you would think that Bunn would have called in about it if they really had a legitimate right to that 8 seed instead of a 12 seed....(maybe they liked their matchup with Hertford Co. better than East Duplin and didn't call to complain??)

I met a few of the Reidsville posters before their 2nd Rd game at South Granville in 2011....can't remember how many were there total and don't know if I would recognize any of them today; you might have been one of them....it felt like the whole town's population made the trip for that game....I remember when they called for all military veterans from both fan bases to meet at the 50 yard line before the game to be honored, with that game being played on Veterans Day, and we had 10 or 15....Reidsville had 50 or 60 or more

I was one of those guys that met you...if I remember correctly you got us into the contest gratis....still appreciate that....Mule was with me and I think TGT....that was one of the rare times I ever seen a game completely turn around because of one play....(Reidsville fumble return for a TD)...............
