Anyone got any thoughts or predictions for this big game Friday night? A big game for 3rd place in the Mid-State 3-A. Based on reputation I think a lot of people are picking Northern but after playing both this year I feel that Morehead is a superior team. I think Morehead gets the win and third place. And yes I'm not shy to say that is what I'm hoping for as well!

Reidsville played both and I think the Panthers win this one. With Carrboro forfeiting to the Rams Friday I am heading to Eden. Should be a good one.

From the outside looking in, I think that those picking NG over Morehead are looking at the Nighthawks as having been more consistent in recent years as compared to Morehead. While I am leaning NG for that reason, I consider this game a toss-up.

Wow! Where are all those faithful Northern Guilford fans that use to frequent these message boards? They slip from the top of the conference this year and are playing for 3rd or 4th place and it's crickets all of a sudden from them lol!

It was a really game. Thought Northern had it when they were up 10, I thought this was a tossup.going on.

Simmons had NG winning by 8...but I'm not too surprised at this one..........Morehead had the speed at the skill positions to win....happy for them..................

What a great high school football game.

Panthers drove length of field last two possessions, scoring second TD with about a minute to play. Nighthawks drove to the Morehead 3 yd line, first down with 7 seconds left and no timeouts. Two incomplete passes ended game.

Nighthawk fans and coaches were furious that there wasn't 1 second put back on clock after last incomplete pass. Clock operation did exactly what he was supposed to do and did not stop the clock until incomplete pass was ruled by official on the field.
Great win for Morehead, bitter loss for N. Guilford.

Reidsville was full strength when they beat Morehead early in the season. Best Morehead team in years with a lot of senior leadership.

Morehead honored 20+ Seniors tonight. None was better than the QB. He was absolutely great when the game was on the line.

Good kid as well...Dabbs kid...Twins Will and Tyler...as testified by my daughter who taught them in school a few years back.................How did #1 and #2 do for the Panthers??

Pretty sure all clock operators at games now are done by the officials...............so there should have been no "home cooking"

So happy for will and Tyler - dabbs twins. I was fortunate to watch these boys grow up in rec leagues. Will dabbs willed Morehead to win. Great to see Tyler dressed for senior night.

If I am not mistaken, Clock operators in regular season are done by home team. I think when Playoff starts, different story. Let me check and let you guys know!

Yep ...Clock Operators Officials starts at 2nd round and afterward. Regular season and first playoff game would be home team staff.

Both those kids are all state wrestlers. Monsters on a mat.

Happy for Morehead. They have been due for a quality year for a long while. They are in a tough conference too, so any 7-8 win season for them is huge.

What happened with Northern? Are they young this year?

Congrats coach earl bates and staff...Morehead runs that wr screen like Reidsville did ten years ago...

Wrong on the clock. I'm IB press box every week and every week an official has run the clock at all games I've been to and I've been to about 250 straight games,

No, officials run the clock. There is an official in the box running it. At least at Catholic there always is.

Funniest thing was watching roscoe chasing officials after game was over begging for one more second.
Lots of begging in the Northern Guilford stands and on the sidelines by the coaches the entire game.

As usual the bullcrap N. Guilford band played the entire time the Morehead offense had the ball. The NCHSAA needs to do something about this continued unsportsmanlike conduct.

I have been to lots of games where the band plays while the other team is on O. I see nothing wrong with it if the other school has a band they can play when the opponent is O too.
Good teams don't make excuses like "The other teams band was playing" they just go out and win.

I guess they should tell the fans of the opposing team not to yell 'defense' as well. Fans and bands are part of the 12th man. LOL :eek:

First, I am not a Morehead fan. Second, the N. Guilford band only plays when the opposing team has the ball. I am told that they do this at the request of N. Guillford football. Don't know if this is true or not, but I would not be surprised.

In college games it is un sportsmanlike for your band to play when the other team has the ball and will draw a 15 yd penality. I think this rule should also apply to high school games. It is one thing for a band to play to support their team, it is a very different matter when the band seems to think its only purpose is to distract the other team.

Well this is not college this is high school. Give it a rest bro, I highly doubt Northern Guilford's band plays a big role in the outcomes of any games.
I know Catholic's band plays at times during the games while the other team is on O(like just banging on instruments and such), but the other team does the same. So it really isn't a big deal in my opinion.

Moreheads band played while northern had the ball. I was sitting there saying the nchssa should do something about it for all schools like college but it had nothing to do with the end result.

So if it has nothing to do with the end result why should a change be made?

The kids played thru it but that alone does not make it the right thing to do. I did'nt say it was'nt annoying and if colleges think it is a problem then maybe high schools should look into it. I can go either way but it would seem to even the playing field if the opposing band is not able to reduce you ability to communicate. You can't control the crowd but the band is different. Say you have no band or a very small band and a school has a very large and loud band. They play when you have the ball but you can't do the same or at the same level, do they have an advantage? Is it a fair one? I think a case can be made for it if it gets pushed or some big game is affected by the bands noise.

No big game would be affected by it. Show me a coach who blames a loss on coaching and I'll show you a loser who I wouldn't want leading my kids.
Winners find ways, losers find excuses.
