Avery is a fine young man, Can move and throw it decently. As far as athletes, they will lack in that department and Shelby will have mismatches all over the field
North is much better than our record indicates; we just didn't get off to the best of starts early due to injuries and Smith being out for 2 games which cost us a couple wins we could have had in non con play. In conference play we played outstandingly hard every game and flipped the switch early and we never lost it thru the end when we beat Forbush for that final week of the regular season win. I've never been so proud of a team for fighting so hard thru countless oddities this season in all my years; these kids very much deserve to be in the playoffs. It's going to be a unique experience playing such a good program but it will be helpful to prep the younger kids for the next year/alignment ahead.
We aren't Carver with their blazing speed but this team's one of the more athletic ones since I've been here (close to 10 years,) and those boys play very hard every game regardless if we are healthy or not. We are way more athletic than the West Wilkes team from last year you guys played; they couldn't stop us when they scrimmaged last year and we had a lot of juniors (who are seniors now.) Size we are about the same mostly as that team this year, maybe a little smaller.
I'm looking forward to checking out Shelby and enjoying the ride down; I've always wanted to see that area and stadium.

Thanks for the info. I always like to see new teams. Can't remember if we have ever faced North Surry. Shelby's stadium will not look like a 2a stadium.
We haven't before I think we came close once or twice in our 3A days or so but nope this the first.I agree. We've played in Henderson county and Pisgah/Brevard before but never Cleveland.
Shelby's stadium's on my stadium tour bucket list. Seen Simeon in 2013 and Cushwa this year so I'm making progress

I can understand that Slasher. I did the stats from 1983-85, graduated in 86. Started doing the stats again in 1996 and still doing them. Will you be in the pressbox on Friday or on the sidelines?

I too am looking forward to coming to Shelby again,we were there last year for the basketball playoffs and you have a really nice school. We are by no means a one man team as our defense has played really strong all year, they just spent too much time on the field as turnovers were a detriment this year. We have some players who will show up to play and they will play til the end win or lose as they have all year. Best of luck and no injuries!
I know it's addicting isn't it? I started doing them 4 years ago with varsity I got so into it this year I started doing JV. It makes it all funner. Not as fun as playing but it makes up for it. More than likely I'll be around there; don't know the setup of the place but I'll be around. Is there a separate place for filming and coaches or is one big box?

you should have plenty of room. All coaches and film crews are on the 2nd level, the front side is open, a great view. The bottom level is closed in with heat and air. I'm up top with the coaches. Look forward to meeting you. Have a safe trip down.
Looking forward to watching Shelby play North Surry on Friday...no games 2 of the last 4 weeks is hard to take. Looks like 1, 11, 14, and 22 are playing both ways for the Greyhounds, based on the stats I've seen on Maxpreps. 1 has put up some impressive stats both passing and running, and looks like 2 others have good rushing yardage and at least 3 receivers have 25+ catches.
Realtalk. It's great to have good conversation about n.surry's stats or what not, but let's not sugar coat anything. This game will be played with Shelby's reserves the entire second half, if they so choose. Shelby will be by far one the best teams N. Surry has played in it's programs history. On another note, that's why we play the game.
I cant remember the year but it was around the early 2000's. Owen came in at 4-7 and Shelby was a top seed, and the kicker for Shelby made a game saving tackle on a kick return late in the game. Shelby was outplayed most of the night but held on. Anything is possible.

South Mountain fire is just a couple miles from my home . The smoke seeping into the house is just horrible last few days ... ash on car every morning and the air is just thick .... pray they get this under control soon
NS has some good players on their roster. I have had the pleasure of actually being in the school and in the stadium the last few years. Shelby however is just a different animal for most teams they play. 54-14

This fire situation is a real concern for Friday in all our approximate areas... Here in Ltown is no different and we have what 18 miles between us...my son came in last night from practice and told us they couldn't practice at the school because of the air quality so they got bused to another site for practice... Now if they did that on a Monday what's gonna happen come Friday?
Could you give us an updated points per quarter? The starting Def did play all 4 quarters against Crest and 13 of their points came in the 4th quarter but I am curious to see how much the starting Def has given up. Also, how many points has the starting Def scored?

That's awesome!!! To my knowledge only 13 of those 56 fourth quarter points have been on the first team defense and those were on those two big plays Crest had two weeks ago.
How about the fact that our 1st team defense has scored more points than they have had scored on them? That is amazing!

Shelby has not trailed at any time of any game this season. The closest calls were when AC Reynolds tied the scored at 14-14 early in the 3rd quarter of week 2 and when Crest scored to tie the game 6-6 (and missed the PAT) late in the 2nd quarter of week 11.
Looks like the strategy against Shelby should be keep it close til the 4th quarter, possibly even be tied or ahead, and then hope they forget and put their JVs in anyway.
