Well, here we are. 3-1 on the year and 1-0 so far where it matters. And now we get to go all the way down to China Grove, just like the old days in the CPC...

Speaking of which, I still have a bit of a chip on my shoulder from the times that we would go down to South Rowan with great teams, and somehow we would play our worst game of the year and come out with a loss. Happened in 2001 and 2003. Many Black Knight fans would tell you that's because the refs were paid by South Rowan, but I'll just say South Rowan was a well-coached, physical team and that were a few questionable calls at times, lol...

This year looks to be different, though. South Rowan lost students to Jesse Carson a long time ago and hasn't been the same since. We roll down there having just beat a team 51-0 that beat the Raiders 49-21. Plus they got smoked by Ledford last week. So by all rights this should be a blowout... not so fast, though. I have learned my lesson and will never go down to China Grove expecting anything to be easy. I'd love to but I just can't lol...

Everybody be safe and travel well. LET'S GO KNIGHTS!!!

I remember how poor we played in 2001. 2003 games was the worst officiated high school game that I've seen in my 54 years.

That's what stuck in my mind, officiating was terrible! I also do remember SR being well coached and very physical. I liked the coach's style that was there then, early 2000's, respected His fiery attitude!, and always seemed to be classy as well. Cannot rember His name, if memory serves me correctly, He was a tall guy, anyone help me out with his name?

Might have been Rick Vanhoy.

Rumor has it that North doesn't plan on playing their starters right away, looking to get some experience for their younger/ less experienced guys against South Rowan.

Ok, that would be weird. I would just go ahead and play the starters until it was 42-0 or whatever, then put the subs in with a possible running clock. Again, not assuming anything in China Grove, and I certainly hope the coaches and kids don't either.

I sure hope they play the starters! Shouldn't be taking anything for granted. Would think it wise to still game plan as usual, execute, and go from there.

Tonight's JV match up will be a great test for them to determine whether or not playing the starters is necessary for Friday, if they are able to take care of business tonight, people that i have spoken with have concluded that the varsity starters may get to enjoy some time off this Friday. However they also concluded that North is looking to continue their shutout run throughout conference and they take that aspect very seriously. We will see what coach Flynn decides to do come game time

I think it is a really bad idea to not play the starters. It is disrespectful to your opponent, and sounds like a good way to get complacent. If there is a kid that is a little nicked up, let him rest and get well, but sitting all of the starters is a bad idea. If and when the lead gets to 35 or so, work the other guys in.

I agree wholeheartedly. Can't imagine any decent coach taking that approach, especially the first time you play an opponent in a new conference. It may not bite you this year, but that's no guarantee the other team won't have the memory of an elephant.
If you don't understand how quickly things can change, reference Cummings, Albemarle, Thomasville, Lincolnton, et al.

Nice wisdom, OC. I would never start a game by giving them my subs just to insult them, they're just going to file that away for future reference. It would behoove us to kick their butts, then put the subs in if needed.

I suppose I would say do field goals after 35 points ahead, let Chris get plenty of practice, because lord knows State needs a kicker lol...

It does kind of look that way about State. FGs and kickoffs. Actually wish he could redshirt a year and then have his four years, just not sure if the last 2 years of kicking struggles in Raleigh will "allow" that to happen.

North fans (maybe NC High School football fans in general) will be pleased to know they will be represented later this fall....Christopher was selected for an All American event that will be played in New Orleans on ESPN in late December.

Seen that yesterday, Congratulations Chris, wish you the best! Have enjoyed watching you and the rest of the guys play. I am sure you will represent North well!

Congratulations!
Thomasville, for years, had a tremendous volunteer kicking coach. Don Osborn helped put a lot of kids onto college teams. Kickers from all over the Carolinas and Virginia came to his camps and Sunday practices.
North has had a good run of kickers and punters. Is there a particular coach who has been instrumental in that?

Coach Thomas, but he's no longer in the area from what I've heard. Someone said he moved to Texas.

Everything we did with Christopher was with a pair of guys from Charlotte. Used them a lot in the beginning, not so much now. Still go for tune ups from time to time and would go a lot more if not for schedule constraints.

North has been blessed with an abnormally long list of kickers who have done well. Started with Jamie Peele and has been almost continuous except for a few years here and there. The next guy after Christopher up is going to be very good as well.

Yeah Coach Thomas did really well with the kickers, really taught them well. North's been very fortunate in this department.

As for the game, I anticipate obliteration.
