New RPI is Out

lol...Salisbury is being punished because their opp. are pretty weak this year but obviously they are the real deal......everyone take these ratings with a huge salt lick................
Can’t believe Salisbury and Reidsville aren’t up at the top. Shelby ok, they have a loss though they are certainly one of the top out of the west to challenge for a title. Just makes no sense East Surry is above those teams.

Salisbury ranked where they are is a joke. This formula is trash. They are the defending state champs and stomping teams. So stupid!
I agree I believe they're better then their ranking. Salisbury opponent's winning percentage is hurting them theirs is .339 or the average of their owp is only 34% while the ones above them is above 40 or 50% and the owp accounts for 40% of your RPI rating. They got the RPI from the NCAA who uses it for their basketball playoffs I've noticed other states have gone to it this year it supposed to emphasize strength of schedule though other states also incorporate extra credit to smaller classifications for playing larger ones.
One thing that will help Salisbury looks like they'll win their conference while at least 3 for sure above them won't so as conference champions they'll be seated higher then them and their last game will move their owp a little to .380 and their rating will probably go above .600 and they might at least take over Monroe.

Yes, Salisbury is a victim of poor competition. Each team has a unique bubble of "their opponents" and their "opponent's opponents". While each team's bubbles do overlap some (conference opponents), they are still unique. Salisbury's bubble happens to be uniquely trash and not reflective of how good they really are and it hurts them a lot. Non-conference scheduling is very important, and overall conference success is important (not just your team in your conference, but you want every team in the conference to do very well).

It must also be stated too that the RPI isn't a straight average of your W% and your OW% and your OOW%, it is a weighted scale that these are added up with. A team's W% accounts for 30% of your RPI, your OW% accounts for 40%, and your OOW% accounts for 30%.

So if you are undefeated, you've given yourself 30% of your W% of 1.0 = 0.300 RPI (and that is really all you can control). At that point you gotta hope that the other biggest factor, the 40% of your OW%, is as good as possible. this means you have to schedule good non-conference opponents and beat them. And you gotta hope for the best scenario that there is a 3 way tie for 2nd place in your conference behind you. That would mean there are three 8-2 teams, which all would have lost once to you and once to each other, that would be graded as three 8-1 teams (minus your loss) and that would boost your OW%.

All that being said, as bad as it sucks for Salisbury, I think it makes them more dangerous and more scary as an opponent. For the last two years they have had to be road warriors in the East and the West. Consistently having to win on the road has battle hardened them. Personally, I think that the underdog mentality that comes with that has made them dangerous.

So please, whoever has the power to do so, give them Salisbury kids some home games, make them real comfortable, we'll build them a fire and put some rocking chairs out and let them kick up their feet. Make them nice and relaxed and comfortable and sleepy. Give the rest of us a chance to catch them off guard. Sincerely, a sore-assed Maiden fan.

Right a lot you can't control like you say your own winning% and you can try to schedule non-conference teams who you hopefully can beat but are still quality teams that will help your owp. I do like in some states like if a 2A school plays a 4A while it's a risk of losing they give you extra credit for playing up and the larger school has 2 exemption games were it doesn't hurt them to play down except for like any game having a lost. The oopw is pretty much impossible to control as well while you may schedule some quality schools you don't always know the quality of schools they're scheduling. Plus there's the conference games you have no control over like in 1A Mitchell has 0-7 Rosman and 1-7 Avery conference games left. It is accumulative were one game doesn't necessarily make or break you and you can actually play a school like Rosman or Avery who themselves may play a tuff schedule and while you owp can go down some your oopw can even go up of course along with your wp.

I have not seen the others play and from what I am hearing Maiden is very good this year. The way things are shaping up, a real good team is going to get stomped by Salisbury in the second round and third round also. They are big, strong, physical and fast and have like 18 seniors that played in that championship game last year. QB is super fast and they have a load of big fast RB's that run hard and fast. Thomasville was the only team that scored on them much and the Bulldogs are a very fast and physical team. Looking forward to seeing what happens in the West 2A.

This schedule is horrendous. I’ve posted about it previously. Coming out of this stretch known adversity may be the best thing for the Hornets. Any chip on their shoulder to force the grind and focus. This coaching staff is really good but the team is player lead. The leaders will not allow anyone to come into the playoffs without the right mindset. I don’t see much change with the RPI. All we can hope is for T-Ville to keep winning and North Rowan to win every other game besides that final week of the regular season. Just sucks for the middle seed that draws Salisbury in the first round.
