New Hanover 52 - Hillside 15. Final

Thanks Hornet. Hillside has a classy bunch and you guys brought a nice crowd to town last night. The NHHS coaching staff put together an excellent game plan and the players went out and executed it perfectly. It was a complete performance by all three phases (offense, defense and special teams) against the extremely dangerous Hornets.

This one surprised me a bit but the Cats seem to be playing well at the right time. The new defensive coordinator got a late start, arriving in Wilmington late summer, but the D has shown steady progression through out the year. I love the adjustment to run the ball this week - what a game plan by Coach Smith and great execution by the players.

The Cats have a lot of young players that appear to have matured over the season. Hopefully Coach Smith will have a plan for Rose next week as we had some trouble (understatement) containing Powell in last years playoff loss.

I would be remise if I did not give a heartfelt "thank you" to the man who knows all things football in the Wilmington area....Portcity FB. The well informed analysis quoted below is from this man of great football acumen and was offered on another website earlier in the week. Not surprisingly, Port's opinions made their way into the NHHS locker room shortly after they were posted.

"NH O line is a senior led group and they pass and zone block good, however they are not a physical group. Hillside plays much more physical." - Portcity FB

Port's analysis reminds me of the work of another great mind, the pre-Socratic philosopher, Thales, who around 550 BC expressed his opinion that the earth is flat.

Thank you PortCity for the quote that I'm sure was used as motivation to open the holes last night against a very stout Hillside defense. Any words of wisdom as to the Rose game Port???

No one saw this coming and I will jump to the head of the line but hats off for getting better defensively and Coach Smith game planning to play his best players both ways. I will be there at Legion this Friday pulling for the Cats against Superman, aka Cornell Powell.

Did not see this coming, but win for New Hanover! First regional final since 2009 for NH and first since 2013 for Rose. Good luck to both teams!

Also waiting for him to announce Braswell's return as Hoggard's coach as rumored.

No problem. Gotta give credit when its due. Your boys were fired up and ready. We needed to match that intensity and avoid momentum going NH's way. We did neither. It was truly a "WTF" moment for me. lol

Trench,
My understanding, that could be all rumors, was it was a done deal and Braswell would be back next year. I agree that SC would be the logical next step but is it too much for Hoggard to take that NH has become the school to go to if you want to be on a winning team. Go Cats!!!!

Word/rumor as of today from reliable source is Braswell is heading to South Brunswick to coach. From Hoggard person in the know.

Under Mot NH O line was not a physical group year in and year out. That is a fact. I posted on a different site that NH line play was much improved against Hillside and played as physical as I have seen. Smith has made a diffence. NH played great and will need that kind of effort to beat an explosive Rose team. I think they have a great chance at winning.
Diamond- This is a football message board. I will post my opinions and express my thoughts just like anyone else. If you don't like my comments I would suggest you not read them. You want to go back and look at my post, I say go ahead. I will stand by them. I have been wrong many time and I have been right many times. If you are better than that, good for you. You sound like the many baby's on this site that cry every time someone posts anything less than flattering about their team. I have not been on this site much because over the course of the year there has only been two or three guys from Wilmington posting. I'm proud of the Vikings this year. They had a lot to deal with in losing coaches and players and still make it to the 2nd round. You might want to enjoy the ride this year because they aren't guaranteed.

Please show me where I picked Hoggard to beat Hillside. I did post where Hoggard was an underdog against EE Smith who aren't nearly as good as Hillside, but you know that because you replied. Go ahead and play your little middle school games. Later you and diamond can go roll someone's car or ring some doorbells and run.

WILDcat, YPu mIghT want To fIND anoTHor Source .... IS it West Brunswick (Noted in the HIllsIDe VS Hogard thread) or South Brunswick? I Find it HarD to bElieve that BrasWEll would coach against HoGGard. PlUS, FInn and WillIAmson haven'T left ... YEt. I dOn't know if hE would bE making ANy more MonEy there Than he Did at HoggaTd or Could make In SC. South BrUNSswick Has had Some heavy HITTers coach there in past thouGH(WAlters, SApp, SaSSer, Hewitt, BArneS, etc...). Finn Was on This message bOARD just this Week looking fOR assistamts FOr next year. I KNow A lot can Happen BETWEEN nOw and next AUGUST, but THIS sounDS like a Rumour YoU aRe trying TO start.

I am not even sure if Braswell feels he will be healthy enough to coach next year. He is working hard to get back where he needs to be. I haven't heard anything and I find it interesting that the same guys that say I know nothing are asking me if I know anything. Geeeeze!

I know that you are very well connected at Hoggard. I respect your opinions and you are usually very accurate in your assesments.
Trench
West Brunswick was the school. May be only a rumor but came from a Hoggard person who has been very accurate in the past. I don't have a dog in that fight or anything against Finn. West Brunswick could become a powerhouse if they find a long term coach, whether that is Finn or not.

I apologize for my mistake. Finn is at South Brunswick not West and I was talking about the West Brunswick Job

I can't see Braswell coaching WB. He would have to play Hoggard every year and play against the guy who took his place as well as his Def Cord. I do think he will coach again but I would be surprised if this is where he goes.
