I firmly believe these 3 great RB's were dogged out in HS and it hurt them during their College football years and potential NFL careers. These guys got 40+ carries in multiple games and the pounding hurt their future. I think HS coaches have changed recently and it's rare that a RB will get over 40 carries in any game and that's a good thing. I remember Tony Baker got 40+ carries in 4 straight playoff games during Ragsdale's good ole days.

That kid # 34 down in Laurinburg going down the same path as the aforementioned. Three years of varsity ball with some injuries and still a full season left to go.

TA McLendon had multiple games with 40 or more carries? Please list those games. One game he had eight carries and multiple TDs. He set out the game against Albemarle's weakest opponent his senior season.

KP Parks would be the player that would fit this category better.

I formation and wing t backs usually get more carries than spread backs. Not always the case, but usually in my experience.

I dont believe Hood ever had 40 carries in a single game. His senior year he averaged 23.4 carries a game. Hood was hurt in his college career because he picked the wrong college offense to play in. While there isnt a ton of them left there are still a few that feature a big back.

I know one thing for sure when Thomasville and Albemarle played, they flat wore TA out giving him the ball, over and over and over again,he would cramp up leave and be right back in the game on the next play,he had to be pretty close to 40 carries against Thomasville every single time they played because those games were so close and competitive it was unrealI,our running game against their running game, both teams knew exactly what the other team was going to do every single time, they relied on TA many many many many times,I was there for every single one of those games,he had some big games against us,and there were also times when he was stopped stone cold all game and held in check, pretty sure some games he had over 30+ carries

He was hurt his senior year in the regular season Thomasville game. Did not do much, probably less than fifty yards rushing. Not sure how many carries. In the playoff game that year do not think he went over thirty carries.

Albemarle had another back, Ren Brooks, that was pretty good and would play at Fayetteville State. He had over 1,300 yards and around twenty TDs that season.

Trevan Davis for Thomasville carried the ball fifty times in the regular season finale against Albemarle.

McLendon's senior year prior to the state title game he had 240 carries in 14 games for 2717 yards. That was 17 carries a game and 11.3 yards per carry. 64 TDs in the regular season.

In the title game he carried 31 times for 289 yards. I am fairly sure that was his season high on carries. Not sure how it happened but he was over 300 yards and there was a pitch that went off his hand. He fell on the ball and the yardage was deducted from his rushing total. He scored seven TDs.

Season total 271 carries / 18 carries per game. 3006 yards / 200 yards per game. 71 TDs total. 68 rushing. He scored a rushing on less than every four carries. The two weakest opponents, North Moore and Chatham Central, he had eight carries in one game and set out the other.

Hit the nail on the head. Should've never gone to Carolina. Never fit there, but it is what ti is. Glad to see him doing well with the Raiders.

Zamir has avg about 16 carries a game. Thats no where close to over using a RB.

Speaking of over using a running back ... I remember a kid at St. Pauls that carried the ball over 50 times in a game about 8 - 10 years ago. I think it was a state record.

Are you trying to say I didn't see what I know I seen,I was at EVERY SINGLE Alb/Tville game played,he had the ball in his hands probably 80% of the time,he didn't have a lot of carries for a year because of inferior competition, but when they played Tville he had the ball just about every single play, and you'll never convince me otherwise with your stats,I know what I was watching,so don't try and discredit what I seen with my own eyes

his number of carries is very low compared to the other names, minutes played in bball terms much less.

I think a lot of opposing fans thought it was TA running the ball each time when in fact three other backs were getting touches. Davis was the MVP in the next two title games going over 150 and 200 yards. Brooks was a stud. Potts a big kid. They had a good string of backs that he overshadowed.

I will see if anyone has his individual game stats available.

I stand by what I said....he was the work horse, and had games with a big amount of carries,I'm talking about Alb/Tville games only,I'd like to see those individual game stats myself,I'm not saying he got 40+ carries,I just know they ran him a whole lot during those games

2001 season was McLendon's senior season. Albemarle and Thomasville played in the regular season finale at Albemarle and the second round of the playoffs at Thomasville. I saw both of those games. Normally did not go to Albemarle games but knew they would be classics with a lot on the line.

McLendon was banged up and took some shots running the ball 15 times for 40 yards rushing in the finale. In the playoff opener he played sparingly and then against Thomasville he carried the ball 20 times for 263 yards and 4 TDs. He also had one TD reception of 27 yards. The 31 carries in the state title game was his season high for carries.

The teams played only in the regular season the previous three years.

Port how about Anthony Southern from Whiteville. Tony Robinson from St. Paul's run out of I formation back then.
