Here are the latest rankings in the NCPreps.com Elite 8 for Week 3 of the NC high school football season.

These rankings are sponsored by VTO Sports and XPloderBar.

NCPREPS.COM ELITE 8 2A RANKINGS

1. Shelby (2-0)
2. Reidsville (2-0)
3. Wallace-Rose Hill (2-0)
4. Northeastern (2-0)
5. Kinston (2-0)
6. Mountain Heritage (2-0)
7. South Point (1-1)
8. Hibriten (1-1)

South Point can be a slow starting team out the gate before they get things rolling and has been battling injuries, but it is encouraging that the Wolves Defense held the #7 2A team in the NCPreps.com rankings.

I think Heritage is pretty close in the 6-8 range. I think they still have a good shot at going 3-4 rounds deep in the playoffs after losing some very good players last year. Their defense is very solid this year. Shelby and Reidsville are still definitely the teams to beat.

Reidsville

Burns just manhandled Crest 35-14. If Reidsville would have manhandled a weak Dudley or Page then we can talk.

Shelby and Burns are manhandling decent playoff caliber 3A schools. Not winning by a field goal or a touch down or less...manhandling.

If you CONSISTENTLY manhandle playoff caliber teams in a higher classification you're top dog...or cat.

We’ve been to the past 3 state championships. I think we can talk schedule or not

Reidsville is top notch but every time Shelby went small they beat Reidsville by 3 - 5 TDs. The games were not close.

You''re like Tarboro after James Kenan and WRH left 1AA. When Shelby is not small 2A or if Reidsville is sent to the east you make it to the championship.

The last time we played Shelby it was 17-7.

The 2010-2015 rams are far different from the 2016- current rams

and losses from 2010-2015 are different from 2016 losses, but they're still losses.

Never said those losses didn't count. Some of those rams teams were good teams, so the teams that beat them hats off to them. But anyone will tell you these rams teams are better. Last years Rams team was young, I wasn't really expecting a state championship last year.

lm one who really admires and respects Reidsville they are the most consistent and best 2a team in the state .same deal with Shelby they are 2aa, and any team that can score over 50 points on AC Reynolds especially at there house. I would put my money on them .all us football fans in the western part of the state knows AC Reynolds never gets beat like that so I would say just for this year I would say Shelby is better than Reidsville but that's just my opinion it could be wrong because I don't know nothing about that teams that Reidsville has been blowing out I wish the 2 teams would play ever year that game would get attention all over the state. that's what's lacking in football in this state the top programs are not playing each other be cause of the way we seed the teams for the playoffs .High school football is the best sport we have and it could be a lot better if the schools ran there programs like a real business that would give teams like Reidsville and Shelby the incentive to play because of the money it would generate, and play the game at a neutral site and promote the game..us fans on both sides of the state want to see the best teams playing each other..I'm sick of hearing about the travel issues it's not the 80s any more it's weird you can face time someone a thousand miles away but you can't play a football game because you may have to ride a bus a few hours .who ever runs football in this state don't have a clue we need to showcase our best teams..I'm tired of the same old wore out argument of who can beat who .line them up and let's see who's better that's how you do it..

And at Your house...Reidsville has never had to travel to Shelby.
...well 2 of those were at Reidsville.....2005 was title game at UNC...2007 was title game at NCSU.....wouldn't mind the travel to Shelby....would like to see facility up close....still think a regular season endowment game played at either place or even a neutral site in between would be a big boost for NCHSAA...they are always looking for money.....lol...………………..

Home field means nothing much at all in HS football. When we played we whooped everyone regardless of whose field it was. So enough already, schedule the dang game and stop worrying about seedings for playoffs. Both have gone on the road deep playoffs and won. If your school and hometown supports your team there is no such thing as a true road game. We call it neutral site.

I don't think home field means nothing. You're correct that in HS football, generally the better team will win regardless, but that doesn't mean home field means absolutely nothing. Especially when it come to the playoffs. I mean the home team definitely has an advantage over the team that has to make the 3 hour round trip in the 4th round

I think the travel is more exhausting for the fans than the players. Players alot of time enjoys road trips.

Rams vs Lions regular season will never happen, and the likely hood of a playoff meeting again is very doubtful.

Definitely not saying they don't enjoy them. Hell I enjoy them, and honestly look forward to them, as a fan.. But I still thinking riding in a bus for 2-3 hours vs getting to be at your place counts for something
