NCHSAA RPI Rankings 2022

So basically find a weak opponent that plays weak opponents.
When they do stuff like this it’s a lose lose for good teams who may play in a weak conference but want to schedule non-conference playoff or better caliber teams to prepare for playoffs. I see 2a and 3a teams all over WNC that won’t schedule Heritage in girls basketball as I’m sure you have seen with Robbinsville and Murphy in your conference because they are not wanting to play quality opponents just want the win percentage

Sad thing is, we try to play quality teams, but now they’re backing out of playing. Smoky is the only non-conference game we have for sure next year. Asheville opted out as well as Brevard. Our location hurts us, but geez, it’s just a freaking bus ride!

West Henderson
Hendersonville
Roberson
Rabun County
Reynolds
Polk
I'd like to see one or more of these. If I had my pick

Might have to go back to the old way of playing a couple of SMC teams twice. Once early that doesn’t count in the conference standings and once in the conference portion of the schedule. It’s not ideal, but in order to find quality opponents it might become a necessity.

Fannin County and or Gilmer would be a good one for Rville to add, too. Swain got Dade County to come all the way to Bryson. It would be cool if the SMC could come to an agreement with one of the Regions in GA to play a game every year. Something similar to the ACC-Big10 challenge they do in college.

Well it came out a week earlier than I thought it would the first one last year didn't come until the next week.
I personally have no problem with RPI a lot of states not just the nchsaa uses it the only difference in some which I kinda like is they have extra points for playing up a class but of course that probably has it's draw back because the bigger schools then don't want to risk playing a smaller team.
But someone is going to gripe no matter the system one thing about RPI unlike MaxPreps you know exactly the math formula and unlike human rankings you don't have prejudice towards teams that have a winning or losing tradition the math is the math and the same for everyone.

Aren't the JV teams doing something like this with the Mitchell-Mtn Heritage Conference?

This list will be drastically different after this week in most confences. West and East Davidson in 2A ahead of Salisbury is the biggest joke on here, Salisbury will beat both of them by 50+ easy.

It’s being discussed but not official yet. We’re more than willing though..

I'd bet yall are....wish we would have kept hayesville on the schedule instead of picking up yall.

Me and Dogtuff discussed this just the other day actually. I honestly don’t think it’s a bad idea, maybe a rotation similar to the regular conference setup. But IMO the nays will outnumber the yays if it comes down to a vote.

I just meant getting on a bus and riding 4 hrs. We’ve done it plenty over the last several years. CCD, Hickory, Lenoir City Tn, and plenty of Asheville area schools.

If you want to get away from ranking systems then go old school. A predetermined number of teams from each conference get a bid. The playoffs are predetermined. Higher seeds host. Are we ready to turn back the clock?

The predetermined nonsense would be terrible.
You may be be right. The point is every system has pros and cons. The pod system forced teams to play their own conference teams in the early rounds. MaxPreps produced early round travel across the state. All ranking systems are based on criteria no one understands. The only common thread to these are that they all heavily criticized.

Robbinsville had a home and away with Dade county in 2015-2016. I'm sure Dade has had the option to do it again

As said, no system will be perfect. I think a system that rewards conference championships is best. Stop worrying about strength of conference. Seed your conference champions at the top based off conference record. Draw for seeds with same records. In split conferences require top seeds to finish in the top 2 of their conference to get seeded as a conference champion. If not then seed them where they finished.
