Just heard on Charlotte radio that the NCAA tournament will be played with no fans in attendance. Only teams, coaches and other essential personnel will be allowed in the arenas. That's going to be weird to watch.

People are idiots. It’s no more than the common flu
In 1918, the common flu (H1N1) killed between 17 million and 50 million people worldwide. Fast forward to 2014. I contracted H1N1 and spent three months in the hospital, two of those in a coma in ICU. Ventilator, feeding tube. Nothing by mouth for four months. Had to be in physical therapy for another two months to relearn to walk. That year 256 people in North Carolina died from the “common flu”.
I’m much more concerned about this Coronavirus than the common flu in spite of that experience.
It’s that uninformed approach to this public health issue that can turn it into another national disaster.

Most conference tournaments are now no fans.

Hopefully the NCHSAA will allow games to go on Saturday.

NCAA has already announced no fans. SEC announced no fans at their tourney starting tomorrow. And the NBA just suspended its regular season. Now no spectators at the ACC tournament starting tomorrow. Even the President is begrudgingly acknowledging that it’s for real.
This is serious folks.

Not true at all, ten times deadlier than the flu and twice as contagious. The people that are dying from this get an aggressive pneumonia, you don't get pneumonia from "the common flu" wake up.

Thats not true. The common flu does give alot of ppl pneumonia.

Bottomline this isn't like the common flu, much deadlier and more contagious. I dont pretend to be an expert on it (clearly) but all virologists have said as much.

Would not surprise me to see the NCHSAA cancel the finals. Some high school sporting events are now being cancelled. Comes down to risk versus reward.

we’re all going to die

So baseball/softball games can be played tomorrow evening but no basketball Sat??? Im all for safety and health but this makes ZERO sense......

Yes we are all going to die eventually, sure. But my 87 and 94 year old grandparents may die NOW if they get this, in fact you'll see a lot of older people who seemingly had years ahead of them die from this before it's all said and done. Unlike the flu there is no vaccine or natural immunity to this, so stop comparing it to something it isnt.

Dook ruined the tournament old folks are going to die and colleges are suspending classes. Apocalypse now

Uhhhh, for those saying “this is just like the flu”, please log off. (Virologist) know very little about this disease. Diseases can mutate and become deadlier without warning. The government has woefully underprepared for this pandemic and yes it is a pandemic. Luckily, some hard headed politician grilled the CDC director earlier today and exposed unbeknownst to him that he had the authority to screen americans for the virus - for free, regardless of insurance coverage, and he still tried to backtrack. Some fine competent people we have running our country right now. Y’all keep buying that toilet paper though.

Screening is assessing symptoms and travel history. Testing is the issue.
Apparently, one of the reasons for our country’s failure to test more, and more effectively, is that our government insisted on only using a test that had been developed in the U.S.. And the first one of those showed many false positives and false negatives. We are four or five five weeks behind where we should be because our federal government cares more about the economic and political aspects than taking whatever measures are necessary to curtail the spread of the disease. Ironically, that failure is part of what is driving the stock market and the political discussion.

Ahh yes, testing. That’s actually what I meant.
