MVAC/NW/WPAC JV Scores Thread

Forbush is not good at all... Y'all shouldn't have any problems with them! I'm pretty sure we didn't played a starter from the mid-way point of the third quarter.

Glad to see the numbers don't lie in this case ;). Yikes.

Any talent at all on their end to be aware of or they are just that down?

Tonight';s Slate of Games:

Surry Central at North Surry*
Atkins at Mount Airy*
Bishop at East Surry*
Elkin at Wilkes Central*
South Stokes at West Stokes*
Forbush at Carver*
East Wilkes at Starmount*
Ashe County at North Wilkes*
West Wilkes at Alleghany*

North Stokes and Walkertown are off

Some potentially interesting and some solidly interesting games tonight.

The two Stokes rivals in the WPAC will square off to decide in a lot of ways the fate of that conference. If West wins it's in their hands if they win the title or not; if South surprises they will be in the lead as we play them in Sauraville next week to determine a lot of how it will end. This will be South's best test of the season so far besides East Wilkes in the opener; time will tell tonight what they got.

In MVAC action East Wilkes and Starmount will be squaring off in a game that could make the conference race interesting. Starmount's JV's are on the rise while East's strolled thru the season so far it could be very competitive. East better be ready it won't be no easy win if Starmount plays like they have been playing.

West Stokes over South 18-6. South had at least two Varsity starters playing for the JV tonight. They wanted to be this bad!

North Surry 57, Surry Central 20.

Hands down one of the best played games we have had in a while. Close to the best JV wise we have played this year if not the best. We came out from the start ready to play and fired up and it was over by the end of the first quarter.

Central got the ball first and turned it over for a TD at the goal line to start after 10 or 20 seconds and it went on from there. They got it back and didn't do anything then we drove for 7 more after a punt. Their 3rd possession was a case of fumbles and we got a safety on a botched snap and then ran the kickoff back for a TD to make it 29-0 at the end of the first quarter. Central scored on a pass on the young kids getting time and it was 43-6 at halftime.

The clock kept running but we scored two more times and that was that. Let the freshman RB have a TD on his first ever carry that was nice to see.. They got 2 pass TD's on the younger kids to make it closer than it really was.

Overall it's the best we have played since weeks 3 and 4 so i'll take it. Hope we keep this level of play up the next two weeks because it was darn fun to watch tonight.

How does South look overall man? Anything to be aware of?

They are not a bad team, but it was hard to tell exactly how many of them were actually JV. Their starting wing back on varsity played running back some and receiver. Also, their linebacker on varsity played as well. QB is a gamer! #12, who had a different number on his helmet, was pretty good on defense too. They had one long pass play, 54-yards of their 150 yards for the game, with 2 seconds right before the half. Other than that, that really didn't move it on us.

From what I heard they 8 qrtr some kid and they had 2 supposedly who could play on Fridays for them as is. Wouldn't be surprised of that WB was 1 of them.

Wing T mostly on offense?

From watching film for varsity #7 and #22 started against Surry Central and Forbush and played JV tonight. It will interesting to see if they start tomorrow...

East Wilkes 34-14 over Starmount

East jumped on the Rams early for a 14 - 0 lead and then Starmount tied the game in the blink of an eye. The halftime score was 20 - 14. The Cardinal offense was steady all night despite some unforced and ill timed flags. East D made adjustments and really played well.

This was really the first time all year a team had punched East in the mouth and East responded well. On to Wilkes Central next.

Had a feeling that would be a test for East. They needed it. Starmount's played well since conference started. They beat West in a thriller so more than likely they will finish in 3rd place. Solid improvement from 2015 on JV.

East and Central on both sides next week will be interesting.

More scores from last night:

West Wilkes 30, Alleghany 20
Wilkes Central 38, Elkin 12

Missing scores from Ashe/North Wilkes and Forbush/Carver still. If anyone knows them feel free to post em.

Atkins, WS Prep are off

Some big name matchup's this evening across the board.

The MVAC title's on the line in Ronda tonight as East Wilkes hosts Wilkes Central. East's had another solid season where they are again undefeated; while WC lost early to a mediocre at best West Iredell team but has played solid ever since then. I expect this game to be an early preview of tomorrow night for both teams. Also on the slate for the MVAC is a solid matchup between Alleghany/Elkin and West and North Wilkes.

In the Northwest the most compelling matchup will be between East Surry and North Stokes. Always a hard hitting series I expect this to be another solid matchup. This is also North Stokes's homecoming for the year despite playing only JV (thanks to the Stokes News for that info.) North was off last week so they will be rearing to go after shutting out Walkertown a couple weeks back. Speaking of Walkertown that's who MA has this evening.

In the WPAC it's excitement across the board. West Stokes hosts Carver tonight in the game that will decide the conference. If West wins they will more than likely be sole champions but if Carver pulls the upset the conference will be in a free for all. North Surry heads to Walnut Cove to play South Stokes for the last time for a while on JV. The most interesting matchup in the WPAC is the story of winless Forbush hosting 1 win Surry Central. Forbush has had a rough season JV this year while Central's struggled as well. Central had the bottom fall on them last week as they gave up 57 to North Surry a multi season high. Central's banged up so it'll be interesting how they handle this one. 2 years ago the situation was opposite as Forbush won a few and Central hadn't won any and they pulled it off this game so it could very well happen here.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

EW 30 Wilkes Central 22

Ew scores 22 unanswered in the 2nd half for the comeback victory. A win next week against West Wilkes will have East Wilkes enjoying a 2yr undefeated streak. West Wilkes was the last squad to beat EW JV 2 yrs ago.

North Surry 34, South Stokes 28

It went like I figured it would go; we played so hard and up for Surry Central solidly last week that we'd crash for this one early, then rebound in the 2nd half. We have done well with that all year dating back to Atkins and Carver. These JV boys gotta learn when they make the big leagues to play solid games from start to the end but they are young and getting there. It will come eventually. Proud of them though been a long time we had this good of a record at this point in the year.

Gotta give credit to South though they played hard until the end and made us earn it. #7's a nice little RB he ran tough; their QB has potential to be a solid wing system QB when he makes the big league. They will have some talent to do decently in the NW these next few years and make some noise in 1A. Coaching wise they do a good job with those boys they were prepared to play last night. Moving to the NW will be the best thing to happen to South.

We got sloppy in the 4th quarter on both sides and that's where the 28 for South came from. It was 34-13 at the start of the 4th before it got interesting. Scored first in the 1st quarter early on a nice drive and made it 7-0. South scored right back but it took us a play to get the lead on a nice run. We had big plays most of the night while South ball controlled for a good portion of the first half which resulted in a back and forth between both teams. South got a TD in the 2nd quarter but missed the XP which was when momentum turned for the Sauras. We came back and scored and got a solid lead at the half; they never recovered from it until late. We scored last in the 3rd quarter on a QB keeper to get 34; the most points in a game South's allowed on JV all year. They got 2 TD's on our younger kids as we cleared the bench.

We end with Forbush next week. Hope we show up from the start and have a nice game to end the season and have something to build on for next year. Gonna be sad when it's all done :(

West clinches the WPAC with that win; don't see SC beating them next week. SC's too banged up and down. As for that game I expected either a close one or a blowout it went the latter route. Carver vs. South Stokes is going to be a very interesting game to end the year for both.

Still waiting to see SC's and Forbush's score.. Bet it was a doozy.

West Wilkes shut out North Wilkes 40-0. North Wilkes's downward slide since moving the JV kids up to varsity continues as it reaches the bottom point with this game. Since loosing to Starmount West has played some solid ball. West closes with East next week in another doozy. North Wilkes hopes to avoid oblivion as they close with WC next week.

I'm also missing the Alleghany/Elkin score.

What an amazing job of halftime adjustments by the EW coaching staff during the JV game last night. Not sure what kind of snacks and refreshments are in the locker room, but it always seems the jv and varsity teams come out even more focused in the 2nd half, especially if their down. Last night WC jv team thoroughly dominated EW in the 1st half. They had 3 different qbs under center, each posing a different threat. #22 HB/QB for WC was a flat out man child. He ran as hard as any jv player that i can remember. He had great speed as well. They also had a TE 6'8" or so that was extremely under utilized, but he blocked well. EW had no answer for WC in the 1st half and it honestly looked bleak for Ew. Coaches went in, made the much needed halftime adjustments, and it was a complete wrap for WC. They couldnt stop or move the ball on EW after halftime. Good job coaches, and players for getting it done......Nice!!!

South pretty much shut North out in the 2nd half. North's only score came after a bad snap on a punt early in the 4th. It was 27-13 when that happened. A two score game. South had the ball inside the 5 at end of first half but couldn't punch it in. They also were driving early 4th inside the 30 when they fumbled. Although the score got to 34-13 this game was as close as the final score suggest. You also don't think that South played as hard against West Stokes last week as North did against Surry Central? C'mon man, don't give excuses when South made it close at the beginning and then give other excuses why they came back late. It was a very good hard fought game by both teams. A few breaks went in North's favor including the last onside kick. North was very fortunate to get that ball.

DaBluePrint1, I could not agree more. I wonder if our school truly appreciates the job Coach Adkins and the staff are doing. Ronda has been blessed by him coming to town. For the most part the staff is comprised of East kids who love the school and played for us. Coach has build something special and I hope the community does not take it for granted. We have had good players in Ronda, now we have good players with the right coach and staff.

I hope to see you tonight.

RealFreedom take care. Not sure the town of Ronda knows how much to appreciate him. He's an amazing coach with a very good and supportive staff. They get the most out of the talent they have. Hopefully, the community will continue to rally around the Cardinals, and truly embrace what Coach Atkins brings to the table as a Mentor and Head Coach. Holla at you tonight, Lord willing.

East Surry over north stokes 24-6

That clinches at least a share of the NW title for the 4th straight year for East thanks to the win and MA's loss. The game next week between MA and East will determine if it's a split title or a sole East win.

Other scores from Last night:

Alleghany 22, Elkin 0. Alleghany will finish at least 4-6 or 5-5 depending on the game vs Starmount next week.

Surry Central 48, Forbush 14. Central exploded on offense apparently and scored at will on the Bush after struggling vs. us last week to get anything until we put the reserves in. Don't know if they were that motivated or the 'Bush is that bad.. So much for a thiller.

Tonight's Matchups:
Mount Airy at East Surry*
Forbush at North Surry*
West Stokes at Surry Central*
Elkin at Ashe County*
South Stokes at Carver*
Alleghany at Starmount*
West Wilkes at West Wilkes*
North Wilkes at Wilkes Central*
Walkertown at Bishop*

Very interesting last slate of games in the very last week of JV ball tonight.

In the MVAC East Wilkes is trying to go undefeated for their second straight season against a very stout West Wilkes team who's better than their record. Wilkes Central meanwhile has a down and out North Wilkes squad who has never recovered since the team was gutted and when they moved the Browns up to varsity. If East was to slip WC could share the title with a win this evening.

Also in the MVAC will be a hard hitting battle of the wings between Alleghany and Starmount; Starmount's rebounded well to close to a winning year after a rough go last year while the Trojans have struggled some but they have remained competitive. Also tonight will be a battle between Elkin and Ashe.

In the NW it's the battle of the Bears and the Cards tonight round 1. MA's reeling after an upset last week by Walkertown while East has breezed thru the year after nearly having their winning streak ended by North Surry and West Stokes in back to back weeks. If East wins they will win the NW with ease; if not there will be a split.

Also on the docket tonight is one final JV battle between Bishop and Walkertown who's walking on air after last week. The most interesting game in the conference will be the battle of Atkins vs. North Stokes. Atkins has competed with everyone all year and got a W vs. Bishop; while N Stokes has surprised some people and won twice with shutouts over Patrick County and surprisingly Walkertown. This one could be a barn burner.

In the WPAC tonight West Stokes is out to clinch the title for sure tonight over a back and forth Surry Central team. After giving up 57 to North Surry, Central went out and put up 48 on Forbush so who knows which team will show up.

North Surry has Forbush tonight who has had a rough season this year. This game will be interesting for two ways: if an upset was to happen in Dobson tonight and North wins the title will be split; but if not North still has something to play for as they can finish 8-2.

Lastly on the dockett is the battle of Carver and their lather, rense, and repeat JV offense vs. South Stokes and their stout defense. Before last week South held a lot of teams in check on defense and I wouldn't be surprised if this could be the case. South needs a statement win before going to 1A ball. If South can stop Carver's QB draw and run game that will say a lot early.

Hope everyone has fun tonight and a good evening to you. :)

I can not believe that the season is over with, especially since it was mid 70's at kick off tonight.

Slash, you have done a fantastic job, I can't think of anyone that covers 3 conferences in JV football like this.

First loss for the jv's since the last game of 2012. Proud of these young men and the effort they always put forth. Look out next year on varsity, the majority move up and it'll be something to watch. This'll be my last post. My kid moves up to varsity next year and I'll leave the banter to the "experts"

Go Big Red!!

Thanks Slash for an OUTSTANDING job!!! These JV kids deserve some coverage. You keep us all well informed. I appreciate your hard work!!! GO BEARS!!! What a game!!!
