Several posters have made very direct comments about the Mt Airy overall play, play calling and game scheme. I believe the vast majority of thoughts are correct. But it is also the first airing of those thoughts in public this year.
I can assure it is not the first time many of those thoughts and items have been discussed privately all season long.
The fact is their were underlying problems all year, some the coaches could deal with, some they DID NOT think they could deal with, and therefore, did not.
I will not go into those here with one exception: Bryson Taylor.
He came to Mt Airy from Forbush where he played his first 3 years of high school, then wanted to transfer to Starmount because he actually lives in that district (as I understand it), but the Yadkin County School Board while allowing him to attend class at Starmount would not approve him playing football there.
His very fine Mother and Father petitioned Mt Airy. Mt Airy did not approach them.
From the very beginning it was obvious how talented he is. That talent was used on defense and he either leads the State or is near the top in interceptions.
BUT his real talent is on the offensive side. He ran Forbush's offense out of the wildcat with a very limited supporting cast. He topped 1000 yards.
His speed is either the top or second at Mt Airy. His ability with the ball in his hands is remarkable. His determination equals that of RB Taeshon Martin.
AND HIS ABILITY WAS COMPLETELY WASTED THIS YEAR. To the point of being shame full.
I have spoken to several D2 college coaches and told them about him and what I think he could be given a redshirt season, where he is in the college weight room and program, controlled diet, and college level instruction.
Given what many of us Mt Arrogant fans saw all year long, it is easy to keep quiet when the very good and talented team is winning. That same winning allowed the coaching staff to not make adjustments, because, I mean they won 13 straight games this year.
But when you play a Corvian type team, or would have played if we had been fortunate enough to play Tarboro, at some point the problems show up.
Nobody is more of a Mt Airy fan than I am. I use my name on here, I do not hide behind some "handle". I try never to say anything I would not say face to face. And I know some Mt Airy fans will not like this post. But it is the truth.
Mt Airy has a LOT of talent coming back and some coming up. I look forward to this coming year. As always, GO BEARS!
