We've arrived at the second week of confrence play in the M6 after a competitive first week. This week pits;
East Henderson (0-3) @ Pisgah (3-0) (Homecoming)
Franklin (2-1) @ Brevard (2-1)
Smoky Mountain (1-2) @ Hendersonville (1-2)
With two games being evenly matched according to the records, we should see another competitive week in the conference.

What say you?

Pisgah 40 - East Hendo 3 (Pisgah by 37)
Going to be a long night for the Eagles.

Brevard 16 - Franklin 12 (Brevard by 4)
Brevard's defense will decide this game.

Smoky Mountain 38 - Hendersonville 12 (Smoky by 26)
If #14 for the Mustangs is healthy, Hendo won't be able to stop him.

Pisgah by 14, probably more but I'll stay conservative.
Brevard by 7.
Hendersonville by 3

Looking for East's #44 to give us a fit most of the night, he's looks like a very stout old fashion, punishing type fullback, the John Riggins type.
Will be a real good test for our D-Line for sure.

Where's the Brevard fans that use to be on here?

There is a few that are still on here. The reality about Brevard this year is that they are young in a lot of critical positions. I think most die hard Blue Devil fans would agree that this year could pose some challenges. The offense has taking a step back this year which I believe everyone knew was going to happen. They lost a lot of leadership from last year's class so I would say that what you have seen out them this year has been expected. I do not question the defense though. They have played lights out just like they have over the last (4) years. I think the game with Franklin and Hendersonville could be tossups. I think they will struggle with Pisgah and Smoky. They will go through some growing pains this year as this current team is chocked full of Sophomores and Juniors. Next years group has a chance to be special.

Of course, Craig is still the coach so I do not expect the program to take too many steps back. As long as he is on the sidelines they have a chance in any game they are playing in. I really believe he is one of the most underrated coaches in WNC. He has done an unbelievable job of getting the program up righted again.

Hate Brevard is moving out of conference next year, I’m sure we will play each other non-conference though.

It would be a shame if that game is not played moving forward. That is Brevard's biggest rival. And outside of Tuscola, I would argue that Brevard is Pisgah's second biggest rival. I just don't see how you do not line those two programs up to play every year.

With Franklin's youth and injuries, I would give the nod to you guys!

Tuscola ... Franklin..Brevard

Definitely Tuscola, Franklin, Brevard. Been going to games for 30+ seasons now, don't feel the satisfaction with beating Brevard as I do with tuscola and Franklin. Back in the 90s yah but not so much anymore. I thought Erwin was becoming a nice rivalry game.
I think maybe Franklin fans might be sandbaggin' a little.

I think Pisgah/Franklin rivalry is one of the best in Western North Carolina. Also feel our team this year is better than people are giving us credit for. We have had some major injuries and also young but team is playing extremely

1) I ain't sandbaggin, I'm pretty realistic. I'm also just a goon with a keyboard and don't have any inside information. I think Franklin is young and got younger with some injuries. I think there is a lot of potential for this team to be good but they need to keep growing.

2) Old Brevard/Pisgah is a good natural rivalry, two industrial towns with similar sized schools going at it. How much does Brevard's changing economy change the rivalry? As far as Franklin's rivalries, I think it's a toss-up as to whom I'd rather beat, Pisgah or Smoky. I'm honestly not feeling the hate against Smoky as much as I used to. Maybe we need to find some bad blood around Cowee Mountain somewhere.

3) I won't miss the drive to Brevard, but I wish we could keep them because I think they have a similar immediate trajectory to Franklin, they have a good coach and good community support.

4) Predictions:
  • Pisgah calls their shot, hits it out of the park.
  • Hendersonville recovers from the late start of the basketball players, wins a close one with Smoky.
  • I'm 50/50 on Franklin-Brevard. Expected them to do better against East, but I bet they have a better showing against us. I didn't expect us to beat Hendersonville, I hope we do build off of that instead of stay put or regress.

I would say Tuscola (weird to say this, but barely above) Franklin, then Smoky. With all those ex-Pisgah coaches at Smoky, I have to have them in the top 3.

Pisgah's D gave up 0 yards last night against East Henderson. I understand it's east but that's still impressive. EH's only first down came on a penalty.
Truth is our Bears are progressing every week no matter who we are playing. Ya gotta also give lots of credit to our great coaching staff for making and seeing to it that it happens. So far those young men have risen to every challenge they've been faced with and if we all are honest, that's all Dabo Sweany, Nick Saban, Bruce Arian, or Andy Reid can or would expect as well.
Not many things in life thrill me more than seeing young men develop into grown men right before my eyes. Especially when one of them belongs to me.
