Best SRO Game of all 3 MVAC/NW/WPAC conferences 9/15/17.
This standing room only annual rivalry game 1A Mount Airy vs 2A North Surry goes back to1959 and there will be no better game in 50 miles .There has crowds pack over 5,000 in the old Floyd Poore stadium & Wallace Shelton stadium with standing room onlyThey both were once 3A back in the late 60s., 70s and maybe early 80 before their classifications started to drop. North Surry never dropped below 2A and Mount Airy dropped to 2A then 1A . These 2 teams are only about 3 miles apart. Moount Airy a city school and North Surry 1 of 3 county schools. Surry County has 3 county schools and 2 city,Mount Airy & Elkin. This game is always standing room oly only compaired to the Mount Airy vs East Surry regular season finally of which is usually for the conference championship. These kids go to some of the same Churches hang out together , but come Friday night it is as though they are at war. Here's wishing for a safe injury free game. Also I failed to mention, both teams come in with a 4-0 record.

Of coarse DaddyDoug can give a complete detailed history of wins and loses going back to 1959 if he wants to and I hope he does. He is the Mount Airy Football Historien. 10 years is all I could find. I do know they both have had there runs where each have had long winning periods of maybe 10 years or more.

Back around the 1990s I think North Surry had a 10 year winning strick.

1A Mount Airy vs 2A North Surry Game. Word is stands are full at 45 minutes before game time and people still rooling in. Standing room only. Both teams coming in at 4-0
North Surry is senior dominated. Could this be the year they break a 10 year losing strick ?

Thanks DaddyDoug ! Could you email me a copy of this,it want let me save it.
You do a great job as Mount Airy's Football Historien. I used to have all Newspaper football sports sections with all the conference & non-conference teams Mount Airy was in from around 1966 to 1998 when my wife and I seperated and it all got gone some how so I have to go on memory now and that I am unsure of at times. also the paper quit posting the high school conference standing a few years back. that helped a lote being able to look back over the years and see who the top conference teams did over the years. With all my newspapers lost I quit saving the papers. Thanks again for the post here is a email address if you can email me the history of the rivalry.I would appreciate it greatly. ... oharrold3rd@yahoo.com
