Mid-South All Conference Bias?

Can someone please explain to me how #19 Logan Green, DE, DT of Overhills High School; Sack leader of the Mid South Conference with 14 sacks on the season; 82 total tackles, 69 solo; 3 caused fumbles and a fumble recovery for a TD in only 9 games played, was denied Defensive Player of the Year or 1st Team All-Conference? The player of the year played in 12 games with only 4 sacks and 39 solo tackles. Do stats not matter? Is it because OHS is in Harnett County? Is it because of who he plays for? Is it because he has not committed to collegiate program yet? If he leads in virtually everything while playing in even fewer games than his peers how can it be justified that he only gets acknowledged for 2nd Team? Is this not to be determined by the performances of the individual players of all the teams in the conference? Any reasonable person could logically conclude that either this was a serious oversight or blatant discrimination. Shamari Wallace of South View played in only 8 games with only 63 tackles and 2 sacks yet he was selected for 1st Team... doesn't make any sense.

Logan Green

How did his stats match up in conference games only. Normally that is the main focus the coaches have on selecting all conference teams. Often the team's conference record falls into the mix whether fair or unfair to the player.

If player A for team X has less stats and the opposing coaches state when we played team X we intentionally ran away from player A because we knew we could not beat him. That can have a lot to do with it.

Here's how the numbers work out in "Conference" play....

Defensive Player of the Year, Thenadie Simmons, 71st HS
Sacks - 2Solo tackles - 21Assists - 502nd Team All Conference, Logan Green Overhills HS
Sacks - 10Solo Tackles - 52Assists - 2Caused Fumbles - 2Overhills High School isn't even on the NCpreps home page for their conference!
And yes, opposing teams tried to avoid his side but to little if no effect...

71st conference champs. Overhills one conference win. That may have been a reason. Is he a senior? Did he have a strong previous season or is this his first year there?

What did his HC say about it? What do you think?

Is Green a senior? If so, provide some info if he is being recruited or get it out to the public.

This player appears to have just gotten onto the recruiting websites and started the process this season.

He has also been totally overlooked and DENIED the proper respect, and credit for his talent and accomplishments this kid is a natural! I found links on the web to his highlight videos on NCSA, Maxpreps and Hudl these videos show he has so obviously earned and deserves the recognition. It also appears he's been below the radar of College Recruiters due his lack of exposure on any recruiting sites until late this season as well as the Overlooking & Denial of credit for what this player has accomplished VS. his competition in this conference comparing the stats and watching some of his highlight videos there is no comparison which is a pretty huge deal!

Per Maxpreps:

He's a 225 lb Sr. DT DE

Last year &this year he lead his team and holds the record for sacks all done in 8 games played last year and 9 this year.

He is ranked out of all grades as the #10 DT in the Nation.
NC 4A Schools for all grades he is ranked #1 at DT & DE in the State.

Per Maxpreps 4A Mid-South Athletic Football Standings,

The four players who made the Defensive line First Team total tackles are (60,44,63 & 42) Their solo's are (18,9,15,&21)
on the Conference Tackle ranking list these four players are #27, #44, #24 and #46 on the list yet they are 1st string.

Three of the first team players were in 10+ games, Logan played in 9 games

Logan is the #1 Conference Sack Leader with 14.
Logan is ranked #17 in tackles, he has 82 Total tackles 69 of them Solo (13 asst.

Another Player to not get the credit he deserves for first team is Overhills Jersry #42 Jadin Jones Sr. LB. Jadin is #6 in the conference with 113 total tackles, 84 Solo 29 assist and 2.5 sacks.

Both of these Overhills Starting Defensive players stats are better than those of the players who were chosen for 1st. team.

Any body have any Idea HOW & WHO picks and decides on the players for the all conference teams? When you look online at NCprepsports.net It says its the "Cumberland County Schools High School Athletic Web Site" Listed on the home page is a link to the Mid-South All Conference Team I can find no other source on the web to the All Conference Team other than though their web site and it is "ONLY" Cumberland County Schools and their Coaches listed.

There are 7 teams in the Mid-South Athletic Conference : South View, 71st., EE Smith, Jack Britt, Cape Fear, & Pine Forest. Overhills is the ONLY school in this conference that is NOT in Cumberland County. Since Overhills is the "odd Team out" of the county so to speak did/do any of their coaches have a say in the selection and if they did it seems no one listened or cared.

I'd agree there definitely IS Something NOT RIGHT about his not being on the 1st team perhaps even the Defensive Player of the year! He has several pictures by the Fayetteville Observer on their site, he has write up in an article and a video clip on High school OT making a Fumble Recovery TD.

Is there ANY reasonable answer to why he has better stats (During Conference Games too) for his total tackles, his solo tackles and his Sacks IE: being the conference sack leader yet only makes 2nd string?? Even If his team didn't do well in the conference this kid rocked it better than his competition who's teams who won more games in conference. IS IT NOT THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYER Based on HIS PERFORMANCE who is supposed to get the recognition to be chosen for the 1st team, the 2nd team or honorable mention??

Any one can can see if they Look online and compare his Stats and watch his game footage it speaks for itself of this kids talent. It is an outrage to see players with lesser overall statistical accomplishments get undeserved accolades and scholarship opportunity VS. The kids who played better and the stats to show it where is their credit?

Why should any player who earned and deserves his place have to suck it up and deal with "Well Kid Tough Break Better Luck Next Time"

How Does a wrong like this get made right for these players? What happens for any future nominations or selection such as ALL State is that left in these same coaches hands?

He is a Senior and he is using the NCSA recruiting service but no major hits yet because he started the process so late. His Jr year he played 8 games, set the school record for sacks with 9, he should have made at least 2nd team then but received an Honorable Mention.
The HC, to put it mildly, is very non-confrontational, apprehensive to make a fuss over anything. Green isn't the only one, Jaiden Jones another Sr an outstanding MLB didn't make 1st team either. As I understand it, being conference champs isn't supposed have any bearing on the selection of individual achievements. Especially when it is so obvious that Green's abilities and talent far exceed those of his peers...
I have commented on the Fayetteville Observers Blog and the News Observers forum.
And thanks for your input BTW, really appreciate it.

Mick,
I'm not disagreeing with you and I don't know much about your conference and that kid may very well deserve more credit however, some great players don't have great numbers because teams stay away. Look at Deon Sanders numbers and they aren't that impressive because no one threw to his side of the field but he was the best in the game.

Did anyone from Overhills make all conference first team?

Who did Green not play against?

I totally get that, portcity. Other teams tried to avoid this kid and he still was a presence to be reckoned with... all I can say is that film doesn't lie. The kid is a cerebral player, you can just see the gears turning in his head while he plays. Truth be told, what matters is getting the kid exposure for scholarship opportunities. Making 1st Team and or Defensive player of the year would have helped with that.

You wrote he missed two games. Was that due to injury? Did he get hurt in a game? What two games did he miss?

He was recovering from a very successful shoulder stabilization surgery performed by Dr. Jeffery Spang at UNC Chapel Hill, which also prevented him from participating in any combines last summer as well as his first two games this season. He will be participating in the Diamond Combine & All American Bowl in Myrtle Beach, SC January 3rd 2015.
