MICS vs. TJA

Not all kids want to play at the next level. Mitchell had 3 seniors that could've played college ball in 2015, but none of them wanted to. One joined the army, one went to UNC Charlotte (had an offer from there), and one went to work. Please don't turn high school ball into this. Where the only thing that matters is getting offers from colleges. Its not what its about at this level.

Mountie, they have to turn it into kids getting offers, it is all they have to be proud of at this stage. On a side note if a student wants a free education then they are better off studying. Academic scholarships don't care if your a step slow or undersized, students rarely get injured in the classroom and once enrolled in an institute of higher learning they can spend their time developing that education as opposed to spending hours in the weight room and on the practice field.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for kids going to college, and if football gets them there, then great. But to call out every coach in 1a, saying they "use up these kids and do nothing for them " is un called for. High school coaches do plenty more than just get kids recruited, and I'll bet there was only 1 coach that got into a fight with his player last Friday in NC...

Had to take a couple of days off to enjoy the great weekend of college and NFL games. Now that I’m back I have to clear up a few things for Richie Rich (thank you for the Oscar nod. I’ll definitely thank you if I win). In regards to the TJ QB from a couple of years ago, he did receive a lot of interest, but he made it clear to everyone that he did not want to play college football. Despite that, he did go somewhere, drumroll please, NC State. On an academic scholarship. All the money without the wear and tear on the body. And he is exactly the type of young man that I mentioned at the end of my last post.

Also, my intention was not to bash the MIC coaching staff. I’m trying encourage you guys to think beyond the D1 offers and all the state title talk. I’m very passionate about high school athletics because of the potential to change a kid’s life. I wish more coaches would understand the weight of that responsibility, not just the MIC staff. It’s really hard to get through to teenagers nowadays with all of the distractions in their lives. With football, coaches have at least 2 hours a day where kids are voluntarily spending time with adults. It would be great if that time were used to pass on some key life lessons like I alluded to in my first post. TJ is not perfect in that respect. We have a long way to go as well. However, the display at the game on Friday of an assistant coach and a player getting into a shoving match on the field, in the middle of a game, is to me a sign of the culture within a program. I get that tempers flare (Lord knows I have my own challenges there). What really shocked me was the coach stayed on the sideline and the player went back in the game. I think the appropriate response would have been to send them both home at that moment. That’s nothing but a distraction for the team, and looks really bad for the school.

I couldn’t believe it took MIC staff so many pushes to jump in between the 2. Reminded me of seeing Q Foundation.

Now here comes the bashing of the MIC coaching staff, but I think it is a legitimate complaint. You know the players read these forums. Yet, you are on here talking about a current high school QB saying that his coach is not doing enough for him. So you are trying to plant some doubt in his mind about the program that has spent four years developing him. It’s one thing to do it in a website forum, but when you do it in real life that’s what pisses me off. I know the MIC coach spoke to one of top players from last year at the 7 on 7 tournaments that are held in the off season. The conversation sounded almost exactly like what you’ve put on here about our current QB. “You’re too good to not have offers”. “Isn’t your coach calling around for you”. “He should be doing more”. And you know what, it worked. That kid did transfer. But it ended up being a win/win. He’s still having great success at a bigger program, and it made the TJ team pull together and play that much harder. But it cost some relationships in the process. I know you’re going to say it’s all about the kids, and you just want to make sure they are getting the attention they deserve. If that was true, then the MIC coach should be offering his knowledge and experience to the other coaches in the conference. He’s obviously great at it. Help them get attention for their top players. And if a coach won’t listen, because he may not, then when you’re talking to recruiters let them know they should go check out the player at TJ or CSD or Bessemer. That would be really doing it for the kids.

I feel for the coaches with programs in close proximity to MIC. I hope they are aware that this is what their players are exposed to when they go to these 7 on 7 tournaments. I find it very interesting that the last 2 years MIC has received some very talented transfers from surrounding schools. I’m sure you guys have great reasons why the kids left programs that spent years developing them. They may even be legitimate. There are plenty of a#@hole coaches out there that deserve to have players leave their programs. All I’m saying is it would be nice to see star players on the MIC team that have been developed not recruited. I’m sure you will point to #5, and that’s fair. But even he already played like a grown man when he transferred in as a freshman.

I’m going to end with this. I’m not really a MIC hater. I want you guys to do well. I want the Southern Piedmont Conference to be the best in the state. It’s great for all the teams if we are seen as having top talent even though they come from smaller schools. To your point, it makes college recruiters want to come to our games. With MIC's proximity to Charlotte you can attract some top talent, which definitely gives you an advantage. More power to you. I’m just saying don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. For every kid that has D1 talent on your team there are 10 more that don’t. Go ahead and celebrate the kid that’s been at your school for less than 6 months but still received a D1 offer. That should be a big deal. But what about the kid that came in as a freshman with marginal size and talent. He worked his butt off and now, as a senior, finally gets to start on special teams. It would be great to also see a post on Instagram and Twitter about him making a tackle in a big game. That would be doing it the right way in high school football. Let’s try to remember what it’s really about at this level. Developing boys into men. Most men never get a D1 scholarship, but they can get something even more valuable from great coaches.

THS55 that was so heartfelt I'll say this. The game is to be sold not to be told. Possible re-match MICS VS. tja. See you there #Im not here to make friends. ??? How does our #5 transfer in from middle school?? If that's the case do all kids transfer in from a middle school. Or is it cause we're MICS you gotta make it sound juicy.

Funny, I know a thing or two about selling. I'll let you in on a little secret that I learned early in my career, professional selling is about helping people. You can always tell the hucksters from the professionals by their true motivation. It’s amazing how motive affects long term results.

I apologize for my mistake on #5. The kid is a stud. Good for you guys in developing him since middle school. I will look forward to seeing him in a matchup in the playoffs. Hopefully, it will be the state semi-final game. That would be a great environment for you to bring the Ferrari. It’s paved roads the whole way, plus we’ll even reserve you a spot in our paved parking lot. I’m a car guy so I’d love to see it up close.

Getting kids to college is something to be proud of. Do you know how many players don't make it to college. Yes some don't care about it but many do. This is nothing to poopoo about. MICS is doing a great job of finding balance with both. Only in year 3 they have plenty of time to win a championship on down the road. In only 3 years they have had winning season every year and when toe to toe with the football gods of 1A in Murphy. MICS is doing just fine and will eventually win it all in years to come.

I get it many of you guys worship a 1a championship and put stock into who wins the local small 1a conference championship. I see how all those championships help the coaches. In the big picture how does that help the players? Can they pawn that championship ring to pay for college? Not knocking the winning aspect by no stretch. I'm just saying MICS is off to a good start on the balance side.

TJ sends most students, if not all students, off to College. #14 will probably have his choice of which college to attend when the time comes whether its on an academic scholarship or a football scholarship...What you and Rich seem to not understand, is for the most part, students don't come to TJ to play football or with plans to play football in college, they come for a really good education and the hope(s) of getting into the college of their choice. What Coach Cash has done with this football program in recent years is just like a cherry on top of TJ's great academic program. And I know that Coach Cash is interested in helping players if they want to play in college.

I'm not arguing that Camp. I'm just pointing out what MICS is doing with the players. I glad TJ is doing great things with the players. Hats off to you guys and staff.

TJ and MICS just have different ways of going about things.

Ok they're 7-3 and will finish the regular season 8-3 with a home playoff game. AND??? These young men have done more in a short time then you accomplished in your entire life. I can handle banter but a hater I can't tolerate.

Right now you are 7-3. That's a fact. Three losses. Stuart Cramer destroyed MICS. Bessemer City and Thomas Jefferson beat you. Yes, you should go 8-3.

It's funny how you attack me as a person but then say you can't tolerate a hater. That is a riot.

Just relax and maybe your team will show some improvement in November. Who knows, maybe MICS can win a few games in the playoffs. The talent is there. But if talent was who decided games MICS might be 11-0.

Lake man ok your point is??? You've overkilled your point. We all get it. MICS will be just fine.

You guys on here are funny. 1st you bash our coaches and the program. Then turn around and ask the key to our success. "Getting kids recruited".
Well I'll give you a bone
Step1. Go in the bathroom turn the lights out. Stand in front of mirror say 10 Hail Marys.
Step2. You have to build a relationship with recruiters. A lot of Head Coaches have EGOS. And they're so out of date with the process. They still think recruiters will chase them. It's not happening now days to much talent.
Step3. Put your pride aside and pick up the phone. Call a college for the young men who. Want to play at the next level.
The thing is a lot kids might say they don't wanna play. At the next level ( from rural area towns). But it's a different tune in Charlotte it's the culture. If coaches started helping kids in the rural areas. As they do here maybe more kids will pursue it. A lot of rural areas kids don't even. Know its a real possibility. Now that was OL Riches Carlton Sheets version. I'll invoice you later haters.

Attention all bloggers ol Rich is bulletproof. Take your best shot I'm still here. All of want what Mics has. But this isn't for, we invented Swag. Keep wearing your wrangler jeans and your fake Jordan's. I know an imposter when I see one. Mics has all of you praying for us not to be in your bracket. Mitchell especially we'll love to come give y'all some smoke. Then leave with some firewood. Murphy the slap we'll give you will have you. Running fumblerooki's all night. Cherokee we'll show you what a real spread looks like. Pack 4000 at the Ray. Ol Rich will an after party at the casino. TJA y'all ready know, we're gone stun you so hard. That the twins will realize there just cousins. The Old dude with white ponytail will leave with braids. # shots fired

Hey Rich, I hear you are starring in a movie, the remake of Top Gun. It is going to be called Top Tongue. I bet 1,000's are lining up to audition so they can be the one to deliver the line, "Your mouth is writing checks your team can't cash!"

I can't believe this guy and how he entertains some of you guys with his team's losses. He knows deep down that MIC just isn't that good and just loves to hear himself talk..text..or whatever. MIC will not beat anyone with a pulse in the 1a playoffs. He knows that and wants to convince himself otherwise.

You still don't get it but it ill be clear come signing day.

Signing day? Who cares? Most schools promote TEAMWORK and not INDIVIDUAL PLAY. When you get a chance in November when your team has been eliminated, you may want to reflect on the fact that there is no I in team, but there are multiple I's in Mountain Island.

I stopped taking him serious after I was able to go watch Mickey Island Circus get handled by BC. It's easy to brag on your team and blow smoke when hardly anyone on here can attend the games, but once someone actually does get to attend a game and has seen the product on the field then the b.s. is over. I'll just continue to get on here and read the daily nonsense posted and then enjoy the real contenders winning in the playoffs.

I expect you wouldn't care. Ignorance is always a enemy of education. You throwing up the I in team sounds personal. What did this school do to you? You talking individual play because they promote the players. Some people care about that December and June balance.

Since you're giving advice for November I will share the love. How about you pass this link along in June after graduation. I'm sure you're expert on this

Bojangles omg.... Come on Lake Man. I can tell you've eaten your far share of biscuits. Pollo Loco how did BC handle Mics. If what point is getting handled you must be the Russian judge.

So you are a snob? Nothing wrong for anyone to work at Bojangles. Too bad your own arrogance looks down on people working fast food. Expect nothing less from you.

Again you ignore the statement that Mickey Mouse Island Charter promotes individuals over team performance.

Enjoy your 3rd place participation trophy.

So little Richie, how did that humble pie that TJ serve you taste? I bet you sopped it up with a biscuit or two.

@BlueandGold22..... I guess the watered down 4a board has you surfing. Looking for me the NC preps King himself OL Rich. It ain't hard to find me. Lake Man you sound like a former disgruntled employee. I bet you was the guy hating by the light pole at the Bc game. The fact still remains MICS is still the most feared. Team in all of 1-A, if not so which playoff bound team. Wants to play us?? Speak now who wants to face Mics? Where still the biggest draw on Friday nights. All the people from the mountains and sticks. Will come out to witness greatness.

At this point I know this guy is a troll lol. It is entertaining though. Keep up the good work. Maybe you can buy some mickey mouse ears for all your players to wear on their trip to take their beating in the playoffs from an SMC team.

Correct grammar little Richie! The correct sentence would be "I bet you WERE the guy hating by the light pole at the BC game". Not only does Mickey Mouse Island Charter not promote teamwork, they also don't promote good grammar.

pollo I think you meant to pluralize troll.

Have you guys noticed that certain posters are only on board at same time? One is more well written than the others but if pressed his responses tend to bear a striking resemblance to the rest.

I want MicDonalds to come to ledger. Let my Mountaineers show them what a TEAM is. Those little cRaptors will be trying fight more than just their own coaches back to that charter bus.

Thanks for the pearls of recruiting wisdom Coach Blackman! I agree the game has changed and kids that want to play at the next level can't just sit back and hope the college coaches find them. So MIC really doesn't really have a secret sauce to recruiting. It's just all about promotion. I can buy that coming from you.
Also, the fumblerooki's you mentioned, is that what you call the play you guys ran 7-8 times on Friday? Yeah, you might want to think about pulling that one out of the playbook.
