Week 5 Matchups
Page @ N Guilford
SE Guilford @ W Guilford
NW Guilford @ Ragsdale
SW Guilford @ Grimsley

Looking at the match ups, Southeast, Northwest, and Grimsley should all win their matchups pretty convincingly. The closest most highly contested ball game looks to be the Page/Northern match up. If Page shows up on offense and can put up some points throughout the game, I think the Pirates defense is stout enough to close out the game. But, as we've seen (last week), Page has been struggling to get things going with some setbacks to the signal callers. Has to be as close as a 50/50 toss up as their is in the state this week. Northern was a big favorite last year and saw Page come roaring back in the 2nd half after being down 27-7 at halftime, NG scored a TD late to go up and win 48-41. Should be another dandy on Friday night.

When the " experts " and pollsters had Northern finishing second before the season, I wondered what they had placed in their bongs since they lost so many players, twenty five, from last season . After getting shellacked the last two weeks by Northwest and Southwest, one has to wonder if some of the wind has been deleted from Northern's sails. I"ve thought all season that Northern had an upset brewing, but since that didn't happen versus Northwest, perhaps it'll occur against Page or Grimsley. It may happen this week at scenic Johnny Roscoe Stadium. Good luck to both squads, but not so much to the crowd in red.

Excluding an unexpected win over Northern, Ragsdale has lost close games to Oak Grove, Northeast and Glenn. They lost to Page by fourteen, and were throttled by Southeast and Grimsley. They have Northwest, Southwest, and Western remaining on their schedule. They'll more than likely finish 2-8.

Northern by six over Page
The other three events will be blowouts, with the Southwest vs. Grimsley game being the " closest " I'll say Grimsley by twenty eight over Southwest.

They are a very dangerous team with a decent amount of talent...if they get rid of the miscues and make some personnel changes @ LB (if they can), oh boy

I know there are other areas to make adjustments to as well but the OLBs are what stuck out to me on defense

I'm hearing Northern's starting QB Mercer is out, and they will have the Sophomore Marsh starting. It will be interesting to see what his amount of varsity level experience will yield against a scrappy Page defense. Knowing this detail, I think Page's chances of winning are a bit higher.

Page with a pick 6, but the run back had a yellow hanky. INT still stands, Page ball to start the 2nd quarter.

Northern staying alive on special teams, as they block a Page punt and run it in a few plays later.

Congrats to your Pirates, Mister Pirate. I'm not all that surprised Page was victorious, but am a bit bedazzled at the margin of victory.
Thanks bud, Page was able to come out and establish the line of scrimmage and run the ball. As I suspected, Page's defense showed up again, both of Northern's TDs came from Page special teams miscues.

Wow, Page seems to be clicking at the right time. Going to be a big time atmosphere next week, might have to make the drive from Raleigh. SE Guilford and NW continue to play good ball.

Tonight was a pretty good tune up for Page going into rivalry week.
I would love to say I'm optimistic, but it's hard for me to get up for it, Grimsley is just a tough match up right now, maybe we can keep it somewhat close as the Pirates defense has been able to play well so far.

Page’s "Young" defense led by Sr LB Thompson, Soph DB Blackwell, Soph DE Brown, Soph DB Hooker, Fr DT 6’6 260 Saunders, Jr DE Jones, Jr DB Southerland

Next week's event may be closer than some think, but its a shame it won't be held at spacious Jamieson Stadium.

Some big games the next two weeks

Grimsley @ Page
Southeast @ Northwest

then
Southeast @ Page
Southwest @ Northwest
Northern @ Grimsley

I heard Mercer was out. Whirlies played well in spurts. They were clearly eyeing next weeks matchup at Kirby Stadium, especially after SE dismantled SW last week.
Northern started a sophomore at Quarterback, I believe it was Alexander Marsh.

Man, Mitchell Summers is special...seeing it in person is wayyyy different than reading the stat-line or watching highlights.
