I know, I know, rankings don't mean squat, but in reality for the North Carolina High School football playoffs MaxPreps rankings mean everything. I really need to know how they come up with their rankings, because to me they seem ridiculous. My team (North Davidson) was ranked #5 in 2A on MaxPreps a month ago, and in the last three weeks they have defeated their opponents by a combined score of 140-6. When they beat East Davidson 52-0, they went from #5 to #13. They then beat South Rowan 46-6 and drop to #20, and they defeated West Davidson 42-0 on Friday and now sit at #21. I'm sure it is all about math, but to think that a team that has given up 27 points TOTAL (21 total to the first string defense) for the first six games of the season is the 21st best 2A team in the state is crazy!

That’s past crazy. I know it’s about who you beat, but you can’t control who you play in conference. Just hope you guys don’t try to correct the formula Friday night. The ‘Dogs need the playing time that a running clock won’t provide.
I can guarantee that ND is a whole lot better than 21st.

Their past 3 opponents have hurt them.

You can say it's not fair but when other teams with similar records as ND are playing, and beating, higher quality opponents there isn't a fair way to keep ND at their current rank each week.

That’s why I hate playing teams like those

Maxpreps rankings are flawed. Biggest complaint is that they reward teams for playing higher classification opponents even if they get killed. A 1a or 2a team could play a decent to good 3a or 4a team and even if they lose by 40 pts there maxpreps ranking will increase. Not all teams have the luxury of scheduling a lot of higher classification opponents in non conference.

With a lot of teams returning to the field this week I would expect them to level out and become more accurate in the next few weeks
They were pretty close last year as far as seeding playoffs in 2a

It doesn't hold up across the board because if you at Highbriten. Their quality of opponents and the records of those schools is worse than what Reidsville has faced. There is no ryme or reason to it

I think that it hurt North that Davie ( their only loss ) hasn’t had much success. They are 3-3 now that Page had to forfeit. But they have only beaten ND and Carson.

It won’t help that Davie will lose several more games this year. It’s possible that they will only win one more game vs RJ Reynolds.

But, if that ultimately costs them home field advantage in the playoffs, I can live with it. That Davie loss was due to undisciplined penalties, which seems to be their moniker this year. If they don’t fix it, they’ll lose to Ledford in a month or so.

they truly gave this game away 2 of Davie's TD drives would have been 3 and out without the penalties!

Well as one coach mentioned to me this is against everything that we are told not to do. I sat there this year in Greensboro and sportsmanship was a big topic. So if you beat a team by 28 you drop in your rankings, so to try and keep your rankings up you have to win not 28-0 but 55-0, so how is that sportsmanship? God forbid if you say god damnit on the sideline but go ahead and win 75-0

I look back at Eastern Randolph who apparently was still scoring touchdowns with the water boys toward the end of the first half vs Jordan Matthews last week. 28-0 is an impossible limit in that kind of lopsided matchup.

That's why I believe that any ranking system that considers score spread should cap it around 4 TDs. I don't know the MaxPreps magical formula so I can't say if beating a team 28-0 or 55-0 makes any difference.

Just out of curiosity, and I know some games haven't been played, etc. Any guesstimate where this would put ND as far as seeding? Have a feeling its going to be interesting come playoff time!

Max Preps Rankings are flawed. Teams can't control who they play in conference. ND is in the unfortunate situation of only having 2 non-conference games and then VERY WEAK bottom conference teams in football in ED, WD, CD, SR that hurt the ranking each week.

Maxpreps has Ledford ranked in the 90s and North Davidson ranked in the 120s. I can’t really argue with that, and don’t even need to since they’ll play each other and sort it out.

It’s interesting to see East Duplin’s ranking increase, I think they are in the 40s right now. The upper eschelon of their conference is better than the central carolina. Top 2 anyway.. after that it’s pretty even.
