Well now we know what each team brings to the table so picks will be a little more easy this week. Let's hear them..

Roberson at East Henderson
Pisgah at Enka
Newton Conover at Asheville
Avery at McDowell
Mountain Heritage at Erwin
Shelby at Reynolds

My picks.....

Roberson 35 EH 7....Roberson snuck by a average NH team last week. East Henderson is really struggling so this should be a easy one for the Rams.

Pisgah 42 Enka 14...The Bears have yet another easy home game this week. That will change when the Cougars roll in to town soon.

Asheville 28 NC 21...Newton Conover destroyed Highland Tech 73-0 Friday but they are not playing a pushover this week. Asheville started slow but seemed to finish strong. I think they should win this one at home.

Madison 21 NB 14....Madison almost beat a decent West Henderson team Friday. I think they will get the w at home this week.

Shelby 35 ACR 21....Two great programs go head to head in this one. I think Reynolds is a good team but they will have their hands full with the defending champs this weekend.

McDowell 21 Avery 7...Neither team looks to be that good but I think McDowell will outlast the wildcats...

Erwin 42 MH 28....Erwin looked really good against a very good team this past Friday. Other than some blown assignment by their soph db the defense looked solid as well. Heritage is ranked #4 in the citizen times best of the west poll and deservedly so. They are coming off 3 years of undefeated jv teams and a 9-2 varsity team last year and return everybody. This will probably be their only loss this year till the playoffs.

Here is a interesting little bit of info for my fellow Erwin fans. The team we beat Friday night had 6 D1 players on their defense. Their two linebackers have already signed with Wake Forest and James Madison and they have 4 more that will sign this year with other D1 schools. Not to mention the qb that has also signed with Wake Forest. It makes that win even more impressive and they way Damien Ferguson carved them up as well. Just thought I would share...Here is a link if you don't believe me..

Roberson 35 East Henderson 0
Pisgah 31 Enka 14
Newton Conover 28 Asheville 21
North Buncombe 17 Madison 14
Shelby 35 Reynolds 14
McDowell 35 Avery 0
Erwin 41 Heritage 21.

Reynolds fans any chance of a quarterback change? I heard that the backup came on in the second half.

One QB is better at reading the option, the other is better passer. I'm thinking both will see action depending on situation.

Roberson by 28
Pisgah by 30
Asheville by 7 (If they pull it off I'll be very impressed.)
North Buncombe by 10
Reynolds by 1 (Because everyone says they can't) This will be the best game in the mountains but I'll be at Asheville
McDowell by 10
Erwin by 50 (starters will be out by the 3rd quarter)

Roberson at East Henderson: Roberson looks to be just like your typical Roberson team this year. Huge and fast and underwhelming. East Henderson may have the worst football team in WNC. Roberson 42-7.

Pisgah at Enka: Yawn. Pisgah by 45.

Newton Conover at Asheville: Last year was a real wake up call for Asheville against this team and kind of showed us we werent that good. Newton Conover looks to be better this year based on what im hearing but its hard to tell because they played a middle school team last week and scored 204 points. If the team that comes to play in the first half for Asheville last week comes this week, we are going to lose. Newton Conover had as much speed as us last year, if not more. However, if we dont turn the ball over 5 times like we did last week and catch the damn ball, I like our chances. Asheville 35-27.

Shelby at Reynolds: Another really tough opponent for Reynolds. This game they wont be able to drop come playoff time and if Reynolds is in a quarterback dilemma, thats not going to help their chances. Some people are saying Shelby is the best team in North Carolina regardless of class. Thats absolute nonsense, but Shelby will win this game by 21 points. 42-21

AC Reynolds is a great program, coached by an excellent coach. But Shelby is the best 2A team in the state. If they win the South Point game then consider them the best 3A team as well. Might be one of the top 4 in 4A if they get by SP. look for a long night against the defense which will provide short fields for the offense. Rico is gone. Enjoyed his performance at Shelby last year but again he is gone. Shelby wins big.

Asheville vs Newton-Conover. Newton is preparing for the future. Starts lots of JV kids. Good speed but toughness is questionable and has been for years now. Asheville is no Highland Tech geek squad that gives up 73 points. Hoping for a Red Devil win but Asheville played a physical program last week in Franklin and that tells me Asheville gets the edge. Asheville by 10 or less.

Maybe closer, if AC can enforce their will upfront. #44 for AC looked good on film.

Ahscougar1, what do you think about Erwin vs Heritage?
Damn I completely forgot that one

I don't see any way the mountain heritage game will be close with Erwin. If Ferguson was the one with the gimpy ankle instead of Robinson it MIGHT make it look respectable but I think it will be close for a quarter and that's it. Erwin 42-21

I don't know, they are solid this year and the transfer from Madison made them even better. They have not lost a jv game in about 3 years and I believe and they return everyone of a team that lost to Lincolnton in the playoffs and was 10-3. Erwin should win but they are capable of beating us on a bad night.

Sounds like it is snowballing on Erwin. Mountain Heritage must have a pretty good team this year.

Heritage up 44 to 7 over Erwin at the half. Didn't someone say Erwin by 50? Heritage can't let up. Erwin can put points on the board fast.

So that nobody thinks that I am making excuses. Mtn Heritage is good. Mtn Heritage would beat Erwin at their best in my opinion. That said, I have never seen a team in any sport , at any age, play with no emotion or so below their abilities as Erwin did in the 1st half. I left at half time. Maybe they will make a miraculous 2nd half comeback but I doubt it. Nobody, and I mean nobody, showed any emotion. Mtn Heritage, for the most part, ran 3 plays. Erwin couldn't stop them. The coaches made zero adjustments.(that I could see anyway) I guess they were feeling good about last week and looking ahead to next week. Someone probably should have told them that Mtn Heritage is pretty good. Again, I have seen teams not show up, but never to that degree. I bet practice will be rough for them next week. I feel bad for them. I am sure they didn't plan that. When you are young, those things happen, but wow.

Wish we could play Asheville and give them a beat down like we did Erwin.
